The name of the body at the funeral could be another anagram or an alias just to fuck around

Also, would a felon get arrested after getting arrested? Or, do you think Kate would use an alias, since she's technically a criminal?

(but that golden plane pass does sound like a sweet deal )

a few thoughts after watching it again.

Ben uses people and manipulates people to do what he wants when they think they are doing what they want. Ben made the order not to shoot sayid, jin, and the other guy and shoot the sand instead (Tom was arguing with the other guy saying that they should not have followed Ben's order and that they really should have shot them). why only go with Alex to try and stop Jack and the rest. why not just take whoever was left that didnt go down to the beach, and a bunch of guns? at the end when Jack connects and talks to the guy on the phone, and they show a shot of ben with a smirk on his face. maybe this is really what Ben wanted

just a thought...

when the ruskie was talking to the two underwater ladies he said ben told him they were in canada. You think theres a connection between the guys in the arctic talking to penny? When desmond hit the button the guys said they detected some magnetic field and called penny.

also this is from that website

Quote :
"As Jack pulled up to the funeral parlor I was struck by the fact that he was listening to Nirvana. The first thing I noted was how excellent and undated the song sounded. A track from 1993 pouring into me in 2007. I thought that was a great touch by the writers.

Then I started to think. The song was "Scentless Apprentice" from In Utero. The track was never a single, so Jack wasn't listening to the radio and it's not a song to throw in just so people recognize. The track is based on Kurt Cobain's reading of a novel called "Perfume" by Patrick Suskind. The novel is about a person born with no scent, but an extremely heightened sense of smell. He basically becomes the world's greatest perfumer, who can sense scent miles away. One day the character smells the scent of a girl just entering womanhood and he deems it the perfect smell. He's entranced and follows the trail until he reaches the girl, at which point he wants to, basically, bottle the scent. To capture the scent he kills the girl.

It has been a while since I read the book, so someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but when he kills the girl it ultimately becomes a mistake. Although he has realized the world's perfect smell, he also can never have it again other than his memory. He spends his life attempting to get back to the smell.

Likewise, in the flash forward, Jack seems to be obsessed with island and getting back to it. Yet he cannot find it. The maps, the flights, everything leads to a futile search to get back to the island, perhaps what he realizes was "perfection."

The choice of music had to be deliberate. Nothing about the scene screams for a Nirvana track, let alone one unknown to most casual fans of the band. I think it mirrors Jack in the "future" quite well.

Further, this theory probably doesn't hold up to all the facts - such as the ex-wife "still" being the emergency contact - but what if returning from the island sent the losties back in time or into some sort of time-warping effect. Perhaps Jack was really listening to the song because it was 1993. That could explain his father being alive. Again, I haven't really thought all the facts through, but it was an idea that could somewhat explain the odd choice of song."

If they went into that much thought and detail about it, then I highly doubt they would give him a cell phone from the year 2004+

Also, his ex wife was preggers when we saw her in this episode, and there has never been any mention to her having a kid. So that leads me to believe it was indeed in the future.

it looks like Jo____ __antham to me.

found this:
Quote :
"The body of John Lantham of New York was found shortly after 4 am in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue. Ted Worden, a doorman at the Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim's loft. Concerned for tenants' safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room. According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Latham (sic) is survived by one teenaged son. Memorial services will be held at the Hoffs-Drawlar Funeral Home tomorrow evening."

it's feasible that they're in the past (aside from the cell phone). Almost anything is possible. Didn't Desmond travel back in time when he turned the key (think of this season when Charlie and Hurley get him drunk)? He runs into Charlie (in the past) and remembers him and the island. He even talks to a friend of his about time travel.

They could have all gone back, or not. Just saying it's not out of line with what the show has set up in the past. I personally think it's in the future and obviously after they got off the island.

but if jack was in the future why'd he tell them to bring his dad down? i bet he time travelled into the past but managed to bring a cell phone from the future with him. the article in the paper is actually looking for tim travelers, "safety not guaranteed" of course.

Did you hear this somewhere or is it just your opinion?

Perhaps, perhaps not. Perhaps it was just a very lucid dream and a way to reference destiny and what not, that's what she spoke about with Desmond. she being the woman from the jewelery store who was later seen in the picture on the monk's desk. The picture could explain why she was in the dream, he'd probably seen the photo or her while he was a monk and she just ended up in the dream.

Or perhaps there is more to it. It's not out of the question; I mean there's a "Smoke Monster"... though not likely, why rule out time travel being part of the overall plot? (let me iterate, I don't think jack and kate were in the past)

3 quite possibly stupid thoughts i've had about the show (i've acknowledged they could be stupid, so if you insist on flaming anyway, go ahead) :

1. the island as the garden of eden: in the OT he placed angels in front of it so that Adam and Eve could not return, and there's been the thought that God made it so that human eyes could not seek it out and find it, and that it stills exists.. just wondered if the show's makers have any of that in mind

2. in Rousseau's transmission, when Shannon is repeating it, it comes out as "the others, they're all dead"... is this literal... "The Others, they're all dead"
now i know her French was bad.. but ol Richard Alpert didn't age a bit...

3. coffin = walt? that would have to mean his family died somewhere along the line

i just wanted to toss something new out

"the number/variable they were most likely close to changing was the carrying capacity equation. By bringing people to the island and having them conceive, it guaranteed the mother to die, and the baby to live on, thus lowering the population."

how does that work, exactly?

If I have 40 people and one of them is pregnant and she dies during birth then I still have 40 people. The population isn't lowered.

^but it doesn't increase the population either. it keeps it near the carrying capacity without going over. if anything, it leads to decreases the population in the future because you have one less woman who can give birth to multiple children

and given that condition, each female that is present can only give birth once. With an average slightly higher likelihood of a baby being female (going by global averages... of course the island may have its own influences), over time, there would be less and less women which would mean less and less pregnancies, and thus a reduction in population. Even accounting for twins, the law of averages will cause the population to decrease over time if no new women are brought in from outside the island.

It certainly looked like he blew himself up this time, but we've thought as much twice over already and he seems to have a regeneration power like Locke.... Another thing that I noticed while rewatching that episode was that when Ben was drawing a line on his map to cut off Jack & Co. on the way to the radio tower, he instructed Richard to lead the rest of the Others to "the temple".

What is this temple? Im guessing thats where the children are being held? We have seen so many ppl associated with the others (the sherriff lady, the children, the stewardess, etc) that havent popped back up and obviously arent traveling with Ben & Richards group. My guess is that we will see these ppl once again (and find out about this "temple") when the Survivors unite with the Others against the Widmore corp in S4.

I looked at that too, I wouldnt call it a smirk as much as a bruised & swollen face on his left side. Jack really beat the absolute shit outtof that guy...

Well way back in season 1, when they found the two bodies in the caves, one female, one male, Jack referred to them as Adam and Eve. I don't think the island is Eden, but the whole fall from grace/redemption thing is definitely an over-arching theme of Lost.

The thing is though, we didn't see Charlie die either. We saw him "give up" and float off, but only for a second. As you know in television, someone isn't really dead until they're *REALLY* dead. I'm betting they'll show next season that Desmond leaps into the water, or opens the door, or whatnot to save him. And maybe that fulfills the prophecy. Maybe Charlie will actually die, in the sense that he'll stop breathing, but Desmond will revive him with CPR.

And as for Mikhail, there's something up with that guy. He died, obviously, in the fence security system. Even Ben doubted him when Mikhail said, "Oh well the fence must not have been at the highest level." And then he was shot in the chest with a speargun, how the fuck did he survive that?

Trust me, until we see Mikhail literally blown to bits he's the Terminator in my book.

I really don't understand the theory that Jack had trouble getting off the Island and that many of them were left or killed (thus, the cause of his troubles occurred during the escape). I know that arguing on the internet is huge faux pas, but I will like to address this real quick.

For one, If the rest were killed, then what incentive does he have to go back?

Also, if some were left, then why would nobody want to help him search for his "lost" comrades?

One other person (I think) has also mentioned the fall from grace and Eden analogies, and I think that the last episode supports this theory more than any other. It most have been that their experience on the Island would have contributed to better humanity. Yet, he only realized this after he led everyone off the Island, just as Adam and Eve realize their sin after she eats the forbidden fruit.

By the way, does anyone have a closeup of the tat on Jack's left elbow? I would like to think that it is somehow related to Eve or an apple, but I have never seen it.

OK i haven't read this entire thread so someone else might have said this...but a lot of you are speculating about who gets off the island and who doesn't....if anyone has the episode on DVR, did anyone else see what looked like Sun and Jin sitting behind Jack on the airplane? maybe they just looked similar....
