^^get a room man, i mean, why does it mean so much to you to support his position? (i'm trying to think of some sort of joke about cjl not renewing his lease and leaving the team, but it's not coming to me and i don't have the time)

"first of all, I am not saying the kid is stupid, or he is wrong to do this. However, only THREE of the top 20 recuits have yet to declare. Only TEN of the top 150 have yet to declare (and this is as of Dec 27th, I suspect a few more are off that list now) . These kids know that there will be a lot of fanfare being one of the last top recruits to be signed. So, lets not pretend that he hasnt had opportunities to make a good decision already. he is enjoying the limelight, I don't care what he says. I don't fault him in anyway for doing this, but I call 100% bullshit on his comment about not liking the attention."

It's possible that he both enjoys media attention and is made nervous by hundreds of strangers staring at him and chanting his name.

"1. Pack's timing couldn't be better with Randle

No. 4 recruit Julius Randle visited NC State this weekend at the perfect time for the Wolfpack.
The planning of an official visit always involves a roll of the dice in some form. Whether it's the date, events happening on campus that weekend or the question of how many prospects to have accompany your main target, not a single official visit goes down without a series of factors to contemplate.

But when the schedule was announced and ESPN's "College GameDay" decided to roll into Raleigh, N.C., this past weekend for NC State's home showdown against arch nemesis North Carolina, Mark Gottfried had a singular goal: get Wolfpack target Julius Randle (Dallas/Prestonwood Christian) on campus.

Gottfried knew the arena would be packed and that if his team managed to knock off UNC for the first time in 14 tries, it would be a heckuva scene to impress the nation's No. 4 overall recruit.

Suffice it to say, Randle was impressed.

"It was a great experience," Randle said with emphasis. "The fans showed me a lot of love from the day I got there and definitely one of the best visits I've ever had. Plus, I got to hang out with Rodney [Purvis]."

Purvis, an NC State freshman, and Randle are tight, and Purvis' presence is a major factor in the Pack making Randle's finalists.

Meanwhile, beating North Carolina created a perfect storm. The building was rocking, exactly how a coach would envision an atmosphere for an official visit of this magnitude. Randle probably looked at this trip like he does most -- as a business trip with a dose of fun. The atmosphere was right up his alley, but what about the basketball? What did he learn?

"I've always been high on State, but I like them a lot now," said Randle, who has been sidelined almost the entire season with a fractured right foot. "They showed me some great things, and not how I fit their system but how their system fits me."

Florida and Kentucky hosted Randle in the fall, while Texas and Kansas will be his final two trips. At this point, there's no clear-cut, absolute favorite. Whispers surrounded Texas in the fall and continued through the early part of the season. However, picking a winner or even narrowing this down to three schools seems like an exercise in abstract guessing."

We will not get randle. He will wait to see what Alex Poythress does and then decide between Kentucky, Kansas, or Texas.

If i was an in-demand college prospect that was going pro regardless of where I went (and assuming no injuries or being a college bust), it'd come down to the women.

I'd probably end up at Ole Miss. How they don't have the #1 recruiting class in every men's sport is beyond me.

I mean ESPN wrote about a top recruits positive visit - that doesnt really mean that we are in any better shape relative to UK, Tex, KU, etc than before this.

We need to have a stellar end to this season and send three guys to the NBA - THEN we will have a better relative shot vs. those other big schools

gott's short bench "dont offer bad players because they eat up scholarships" idea was smart in theory but we're really starting to feel it's negative effects this year. there's just no room for error. if one guy goes down or you miss on one recruit you're reduced to playing walk on caliber players (vandy)

we're apparently after a JUCO guard that is originally from norfolk and is boys with cat barber. his highlights this year are actually really impressive but even if he's a mediocre player that gives us some breathing room if purvis gets hurt or barber isn't ready

need a post player equivalent as well if we cant get wendell to open up the banks for randle

True, but he didn't plan on Painter going back home, TDT being a bitch, and Vandy being completely terrible. And he had to think he'd get a little more out of Tyler Lewis at this stage.

We'll have good talent next year, but depth could be a real big issue again if we can't land Randle. Who knows if either Anya and Washington will be ready to make an impact. Anya definitely has the tools, just needs to get some conditioning.

dude we went after Oriakhi, the juco big man, amile.... we lost painter, tdt, harris. (and raymond and harrow). Beyond that we lost josh davis before gott arrived.

Who were we supposed to get?! We went after everyone we just didnt land them. There wasnt anyone left better than Robinson and we won't even play that guy

jefferson is pretty much the definition of that complaint. we had all our eggs in that basket with no back up plan. pretty much the same deal with randle this year as far as I can tell. dont get me wrong, i want us chasing those guys but there needs to be a plan b.

savon goodman was out there and on our radar briefly. not entirely sure what happened there but he went to unlv to play behind a million PFs so that obviously wasnt a problem. maybe he had academic issues, idk. there are tons of guys out there. your 8th man doesnt need to be a 4* maryland picked up chuck mitchell in march and im guessing he would have crawled here to continue the wheeler line.

as far as guard depth goes we really got screwed by all of lowe's guys transferring. that was a tough one. it's too bad dez wells didnt get caught banging a rich white chick with no rubber a couple weeks earlier or he'd probably be here. plus if we had landed him and mitchell maryland would have zero players worth a shit next season and thatd be entertaining.

Obviously Randle is a program defining type of recruit, but I really hope we can land one grad-transfer/JUCO guard and Djitte. Need some with height, and a few guys who know their role and won't transfer for playing time. Up to about 2 weeks ago I didn't think depth had been a big issue at all for us, but the WF and UVA games are the types of losses I'd hoped we'd avoid without being able to use a real bench.

i dont know about that. landing him would be a big statement and legitimize us as a recruiting power but as far as the program goes it's doubtful he he changes anything long term. our team is going to be extremely young next season and he'll be gone after that. he improves us from bubble team to r32/s16 potential which is great but long term isn't a huge thing

compare hickson vs howell

Kentucky won a national championship with an extremely young team, no depth, and a star in the middle. We'll have Purvis and Warren next year, and we're adding a potential star at PG in Barber. You can't tell me that a team with Barber, Purvis, Warren, and Randle doesn't have the potential to do something big. Throw in Turner, Anya, and a (hopefully) much improved Lewis, and we could have a special team.

The Hickson thing isn't really applicable. JJ had no talent around him and no PG to get him the ball.

[Edited on January 30, 2013 at 12:22 AM. Reason : JJ also had no coach ... sorry Sid]

I know about Washington, just not expecting much from him next season. I'd love to be wrong though.

That said, I really know nothing about him except he's tall and has 4 stars on Scout. His own Scout page says nothing. Does anyone know anything about his game?

I think Washington is more polished and college-ready than Anya from what I've seen. Washington seems to be a better offensive player and Anya is a rebounding/D kinda guy. Anya will see the court next year because of need, but he won't be able to play 30+ minutes a night as a freshman. He'll need 15-20 minutes a game and get to work on his conditioning.

Most likely to be ready as a freshman: Washington
Highest Ceiling: Anya

I think Anya can be a monster, already would be our best defender if he was on the team now, and he's a solid rebounder. He needs to drop some weight, get the conditioning up and develop a little more offensively, and he's going to be hard to handle.

Randle is probably going to be the difference in making the NCAA's next year and not. He's that big of a difference maker.

Washington has a shot to be pretty good next year. From what I've seen of Anya he's going to get abused on both ends of the court. He has a lot of CJ-itis on defense so that'll probably take a season to really be an asset.

Even with Randle we don't have Kentucky talent next year. And pretty much every young team with the exception of Kentucky struggles a lot. Hell, you can see it this year with them now that they don't have dominant freshman (and Noel is still better than you can expect either of Washington/Anya to be) and Ryan Harrow as their PG.

I agree he needs to lose some weight, but his wingspan is unbelievable ... freakish even. These photos aren't photoshopped ... dude's arms are really that long. It's gonna be nice finally having someone who can protect the rim on the team
