Roy Williams is a much better politician than he is a basketball coachreally wish he would have chosen the former as his profession

At what point does the relevant body think of pulling the African-American Studies program's accreditation? Probably won't happen, but driving home tonight listening to Fox Sports Radio, they said something like 47% of the people in these programs were basketball and football players when they make up 0.6% of the university undergrad enrollment. It's almost like athletic eligibility was the only reason the program existed.[Edited on October 22, 2014 at 11:43 PM. Reason : .]

Can someone please add in a soundbite of Ronald Reagan saying "Mr. President, tear down these banners"

I look forward to seeing the "18 Years" signs at games against UNC.

I mean, if this isn't lack of institutional control, what is?
10/23/2014 7:50:33 AM
as I was walking out the door this morning, my wife was watching the cbs morning news, and this was one of their lead stories. The picture they painted in the 10 second overview that I saw was pretty damning. With the national media (finally) involved, this could escalate pretty quickly
10/23/2014 7:59:32 AM
Nah, this is the opposite. The institution was perfectly in control of the agenda.
10/23/2014 8:00:03 AM
Father in Law sent me an email this morning with a WSJ article about the scandal...email titled "I thought you would find this interesting..." I still think there are some journalists out there (I'm looking at you Dan Kane) that have been sitting on evidence that the coaches know about this. I mean, shit, Smith and Willingham's book hasn't even come out yet. The Wainstein report was pretty damn thorough, and you have to think they have a little more juice in the book for it to be worth anything.I also think there's a good chance of Roy snapping in the next few months. He looked like he was going to burst last year with all the questions about PJ and players that couldn't read. He'll get even more questions this year about whether or not he knew about the fake classes. Dude is getting old...he can't take this shit for much longer.[Edited on October 23, 2014 at 8:06 AM. Top Front Page story on CNN at least the national media is finally running with it. Burn it to the ground!
10/23/2014 8:20:01 AM
not sure if it's been covered, but the Men's Basketball team was the biggest offender when you look at the numbers proportionally. From 1999-2011 there were 963 enrollments by the football team vs. 226 for basketball. but when you figure in team sizes based on scholarships, that's 0.87 enrollments per football scholarship during that time (13x85=1105), where as basketball had 1.34 enrollments per scholarship (13x13=169)meaning, at a per-scholarship level, men's basketball took 53% more fake classes than football did.
10/23/2014 8:31:40 AM
a couple people at work are spinning this as an example of how awesome UNC is for being the most transparent university in the country
10/23/2014 9:07:31 AM
banners - take them down.I'd love to see Roy just resign in the next few days and then a total shit storm surfaces. [Edited on October 23, 2014 at 9:10 AM. Reason : .]

btdubs the second the NCAA comes in and says they aren't going to do anything more we should start cheating that instant.and I'm not even joking. If anybody calls us out then we should just be all "Damn straight we are, what are you going to do about it?"

^So is he saying that this issue wasn't really related to athletics...or only athletics-related indirectly? Because I mean...that's pretty ignorant. Especially when emails like this exist.
10/23/2014 10:57:53 AM
I cannot understand how anyone would feel comfortable putting that in writing.

That's from the report. I think it was for a women's basketball player.
10/23/2014 11:11:12 AM
^Apparently, the spin they're putting on that is: "Hey, that was to help her graduate, not to maintain eligibility"
10/23/2014 11:17:43 AM
i'm not sure what is better, that email or the fact that academic advisors gave a power point presentation to the football coaches about the fact that the fake classes no longer existed.
10/23/2014 11:18:02 AM
Why would these people use their university email accounts? That stuff is archived forever
10/23/2014 11:22:34 AM
shit...I remembered when I was in last semester of undergrad I was so burned out...I went to take my NE419 final exam and wrote on the last page..."I need to pass this class to graduate". I didn't know what I got from that exam...now I work as a defense contractor.
10/23/2014 11:28:03 AM
^^Yeah I thought about that too. The whole attitude seemed to be that they would never get caught...or that they couldn't get caught because what they were doing wasn't a secret.
