Such a great pic.

ESPN doesn't have any financial motives to break a story like this just when the Big East hits the open market for TV negotiationsoh wait
11/18/2012 11:02:46 AM
I really don't understand UMD's motives for allegedly wanting to go to the Big101112. With the addition of Pitt and Cuse, their average travel distance wouldn't change too much, might even be worse. They are more of a basketball school than a football one, and they'll be moving to a better football conference and, arguably, a slightly less good basketball conference. The move just doesn't make sense, unless they are tired of the UNC/Duke love in the ACC
11/18/2012 1:22:34 PM
^ Their athletics department is broke.
11/18/2012 2:29:25 PM
and can thus afford a 50M exit fee?
11/18/2012 2:30:07 PM
^ I imagine if the Big 10 wants Maryland they could help pay for it.
11/18/2012 2:31:33 PM
They would get a lot more money in the end with the bigger B12 tv deal
11/18/2012 2:33:50 PM
I doubt they would end up having to pay the full 50mil. I would guess they file suit and end up settling for something closer to 20mil than 50. They already set themselves up for this by voting against the 50mil buyout and at the time their president or somebody was already questoning the legality of the buyout.[Edited on November 18, 2012 at 2:34 PM. 11/18/2012 2:34:10 PM
I still don't see why they want them, hell we don't want them. being AAU doesn't mean shit
11/18/2012 2:34:29 PM
My guess is that they're a vulnerable school to replace PSU
11/18/2012 2:36:27 PM
11/18/2012 2:37:16 PM
I hope this move bankrupts Maryland cause I would rofl

11/18/2012 6:14:48 PM
plz 2 leavefuck UMD, their ghetto college campus, their trashy fans, and being a thorn in NCSU athletics for so many years
11/18/2012 6:34:51 PM
Dan Wetzel at Yahoo says if Maryland leaves, that the ACC could stay with 13 for football but if they were going to add another school the clearcut #1 choice would be UConn.
11/18/2012 9:50:21 PM
So the word is Maryland thinks they negotiate the buyout down to $20 million. Not that I care if Maryland leaves, but why would the acc even consider negotiating at all. What's in it for them?
11/18/2012 9:50:37 PM
^They get Maryland out of the conference
11/18/2012 9:57:28 PM
^^they wont have to take it to court

11/18/2012 10:12:29 PM
I'd like someone to make the argument that UConn is inferior to UMD. I don't see how it could be, so why the hate?

If Plank gives MD 50mil just so they can move to the BIG10, he will become the dumbest donor in the history of collegiate sports.

Use the exit fee money to bribe Notre Dame into joining as a full member.
11/19/2012 10:45:06 AM
wow, can't believe they're actually going to bolt. i'm kinda
11/19/2012 10:45:51 AM
As a former Terps fan, good riddance. Glad that train wreck of an athletic program is leaving the ACC. Glad I won't have to put up with that fan base anymore.
11/19/2012 10:57:45 AM
What a bunch of clowns. This is making me feel slightly better about the weekend.
11/19/2012 10:59:34 AM
Joking about Maryland is one thing, but is anyone actually not worried about this? Clemson and FSU are going to be watching how the ACC handles this very closely, Swofford needs to be on his game or Maryland won't be the only exit.
11/19/2012 11:02:21 AM
^i think it'll only be a problem if they don't hold UMD up on the $50M buyout
11/19/2012 11:03:25 AM
ACC decision will hinge on football or academics. Louisville is obvious choice but they are 140th in US News rankings. Cincy even worse.Aside from those two what other choice is there? UCONN? UCF?
11/19/2012 11:07:53 AM
UConn's the obvious choice, but doesn't do much to alleviate any concerns the ACC has with GT/Clemson/FSU potentially leaving.

^^ there is no program out there that would unfortunately. Nothing realistic anyway.[Edited on November 19, 2012 at 11:14 AM. Reason : UL wouldn't either imo]

Really?? We were like 71 in years past when I looked during expansion. Wtf.Rutgers will be in Big 10 as well obviously.[Edited on November 19, 2012 at 11:19 AM. Reason : X]
11/19/2012 11:17:47 AM
well US News Rankings is a jokeI was just pointing that out because while we have some great programs that are ranked much higher, we are far from some kind of academic powerhouse.
11/19/2012 11:20:38 AM
Can more teams leave now?Just gimme a round-robin basketball schedule for the love of Everett Case
11/19/2012 11:21:57 AM
The ACC is toast. We need to attach ourselves to VT and start getting in the ears of the SEC.
11/19/2012 11:22:17 AM
I am so glad they're leaving. I'm not worried about other defections UNLESS we don't hold them to that 50M buyout. If the under armor guy wants to waste his money to make MD the joke of the B1G, let him. We just don't need Clemson or FSU getting any ideas about going to the Big XII (unless for some reason we can go to the SEC trololol)
11/19/2012 11:23:30 AM
who is next? FSU
