Hi, my name is jeff. Here's some blurry-ass Top Gear shots of my motorcycle.
4/3/2011 10:28:02 PM
its called Bokeh and depth of field. You use this for video with a technique called focus pull. Now you know...
4/3/2011 10:58:30 PM
quarter turn throttle mod is the best $10 i ever spent on any bike. I HIGHLY recommend it

Dropped the shiny new SV yesterday in front of a group kids and their motorcycles. >.<It was in a gas-stations dirt/gravel parking-lot on a slight incline. I was slowly leaving my parking space, turning up-hill, and the wheel just slid out on a tiny bit of throttle. Kids came over immediately to help pick it up, but while I checked out my plastics I could hear a couple snickers.Brake reservoir snapped off the mount, brake pedal bent, the fairing edge next to the headlight is scraped and the previously mirror-sheen exhaust is full of pock-marks from the pointy gravel stones. At least the plastic held together. Didn't see any cracks. I reattached the reservoir with electrical tape (the rubber hose had kept it from falling off or leaking), checked the brake pedal (it still worked, but with more effort), and kept riding.

Guys, I just want to say, I love my motorcycle. The thing is a freaking 800lb rocket with sex appeal rivaling its power. And I just got my stage III factory pro jet kit...hopefully have some time this weekend to get that all installed and tuned up. I want to go pick up a vacuum gauge and some sort of engine tach so I can get the carb tuned perfectly, any recommendations or should i just go to harbor freight? That is all, thanks for your time.
4/4/2011 7:14:40 PM
^ You want to run it against my 95ci rat???
4/4/2011 8:50:10 PM
You got-damn right I willwinner buys
4/4/2011 10:46:38 PM
kyle, I only moved back since I'm back at NCSU, finishing up in a few months. I was living in nice and sunny Miami last year and Ft. Laude year before that. And I have no problems getting girls, thank you for your concern.

4/5/2011 2:40:33 PM
I want a bike. Too bad I'm poor... I at least have a bicycle I suppose.
4/6/2011 12:56:18 AM
Dave I found a beer truck so you best be saving your pennys!
4/6/2011 9:45:18 AM
i might have to find some day labor once i get to montana because the truck and the bike get about the same gas mileage
4/6/2011 10:32:06 AM
got lucky. hastily put the bike up thinking id be able to take it out again...turned into 4 months.thankfully topping off the battery with some water and giving it some gas was enough. first day worth riding up here in WI.
4/10/2011 12:34:16 AM
I hope my license gets here. Gotta replace that dead ass battery then I will be good to go.Oh how I have missed riding...
4/10/2011 10:55:04 PM
Do the new laws about having an inspection prior to registration apply to motorcycles? I have never had a motorcycle more than a year, so it even didn't occur to me to renew my plates. Whoops. I need to do it asap, but I also need to do a couple things to my bike before it will pass inspection.
4/11/2011 12:22:45 PM
4/11/2011 12:35:01 PM
Anyone know if the cyclegear near wilmington and tryon does inspections?
4/11/2011 2:48:34 PM
Not sure. On that topic, are tire prices/installation fair at Cyclegear?
4/11/2011 3:22:29 PM
I think it's 30 to install, 20 if you bring in a tire you bought from them online. I'm not sure if installation is included if you buy in-store or not.
4/11/2011 4:42:30 PM
the best deal on sport bike tires is through nesba at the track. $279 for 2 rears and a front dunlop 211 gpa mounted and balanced.
4/11/2011 7:40:46 PM
Stopped by today and was quoted $189 for a Metz 880 in 150/90-15 for my Marauder, plus 20 for installation. I can get 170/80s online for $166. Grr. I may just try to squeeze a 170/80 Avon Venom under it for $147 plus installation.vsSuggestions? Why is the bigger tire cheaper than the stocker?
4/11/2011 10:37:26 PM
I'm thinkin hard about putting a car tire on the rear when it's due...I know most of you guys ride sport bikes but do any of you have any experience riding darkside? Been talkin to some guys that swear by it
4/12/2011 10:17:06 AM
No experience, but putting a car tire on the back of a motorcycle sounds like a horrible idea. I've never met a single rider who does that.
4/12/2011 10:25:45 AM
no experience and no knowledge of the difference between a car tire and a motorcycle, but it seems like a bad idea to use a tire made for a different type of vehicle entirelyi assume motorcycle tires are more expensive because they sell fewer of them
4/12/2011 10:52:18 AM
Lots of people do it...waaaay more traction for braking and in the rain, much longer tire life obviously, and a lot of them say they actually like the way it rides betterMain con from my understanding is that the rear contact patch is slightly offset from the centerline during a turn which causes slight understeer, meaning you need to lean a little harder and for cruisers with low clearance this could take some getting used to
4/12/2011 10:57:32 AM
Motorcycle tires are softer for grip and are built so they can handle being leaned over in turns etc better. Also the shape o the tire for turning grip etc. Running a car tire is dumb. Unless u plan to make no turns and just do burnouts and run up and down the Myrtle beach strip on a fat tire conversion busa
4/12/2011 12:29:59 PM
I've seen guys run volkswagen tires on old choppers. I'm currently running a square profile tire(not a car tire, but closer to the shape of one). It definitely doesn't lean like a sportbike.

just picked up my brand new Xtreme battery and battery tender. got her charging right now. I also got all the rust out of the tank earlier this week. i'm gonna mount the tank, replace the battery, put new gas in and fire her up tonight. i hope all goes well.
4/15/2011 3:22:54 PM
I'm trying to figure out the best way to get my BMW back to New Bern from the shop in Durham. The obvious answer is to go pick it up with my truck, but that would cost about $120 just in gas, and loading/unloading a bike from my truck is a PAIN IN THE ASS, due to the ride height.
4/15/2011 5:31:39 PM
bus to raleigh and ride it home?^^^^ also, why would you ever want a tire that's meant to be flat all the time on a vehicle meant to roll/lean on the tire?[Edited on April 15, 2011 at 6:07 PM. Reason : no, you haven't presented a compelling arguement. bike tires aren't expensive]
4/15/2011 6:02:10 PM
Especially cruiser tires
4/15/2011 7:34:13 PM
lifeisaroad.com/stories/2004/10/27/theDarkSide.htmlRead this article. Plenty of guys run em. Youtube has videos of rear tire and how it works.[Edited on April 16, 2011 at 10:58 AM. i guess if you're on a big cruiser that drives like a car anyway, have at it. I damn sure wouldnt put it on my bikes, but they're all (and will always be) sport bikes
4/17/2011 11:29:37 AM
got my BMW back from Bombar's Beemers in Durham...-new digital ignition system-replaced ignition control module-replaced coils-new 450w charging system-valves adjusted, carbs adjusted & synced, new spark plugs-oil/filter changed with Amsoil-brakes flushed with Amsoil fluid-new battery-stiffer, progressive fork springs; fork oil replaced-EGR system removed/bypassed-rear tire replaced-valve cover gaskets replaced$2250 (OUCH! ) later, it runs and rides reeeeeeeally good.
4/17/2011 8:47:34 PM
goddamn dude. you coulda bought a bike made this century with fi and all that good stuff for 2250![Edited on April 18, 2011 at 9:32 AM. Reason : .]
4/18/2011 9:31:56 AM
get the fuck out of here
4/18/2011 10:25:32 AM
damn beemers
4/18/2011 3:50:53 PM
^^^ Well, yeah. I would have bought a newer bike (probably an 1150GS), except for the history of this particular bike (from granddad's dealership, his signature in the original manual/service records, etc)....and I did everything pretty much top-shelf, and upgraded some things that would have been just fine left completely alone. I most of that bill was totally optional...but I plan to keep the bike until I die or can't ride any more, so I'm kinda into going all-out with the treatment it gets.
4/18/2011 7:04:38 PM
4/18/2011 7:23:41 PM
^^ well may it treat you well, sir.^is that a movie stunt? the guy looks to setup and flip rather than just get tossed
4/19/2011 9:15:22 AM
so i finally got around to firing up the bike last night. put a new battery in and mounted the cleaned out gas tank (there was some rust in the tank). with the help of some starter fluid we go the bike running but it's far from perfect. i could never run it off choke. the RPMs were all over the place with steady throttle. initially i though it was just maybe some bad gas in the lines or pulling from the reserve tank but we should have ran all that out. now i'm thinking the carb just needs a good cleaning. we worked on it with a bottle of carb cleaner sprayed into the intake until the battery finally died. i'm going to see if i get get it running smooth with a bottle of seafoam in the gas and carb cleaner run through the intake. if i can't i'll just do it right and tear down the carb, clean it good and put it back together.
