i don't see bornstein not making it, as much as i think he sucks. bradley loves him, i think he was his coach before team usa, but i could be wrong. i hope youre right and robbie rogers makes it tho, i like him on the wings a lot.

I love ESPN sometimes. They've decided to convince any casual viewers that we suck."Convincing loss to the Czech Republic" and "deficiencies exposed" just before they announce the team, but no mention of the fact that we played second-tier players almost exclusively.
5/26/2010 1:18:05 PM
This is... anticlimactic[Edited on May 26, 2010 at 1:21 PM. Reason : []
5/26/2010 1:21:37 PM
They also called it a "World Cup warmup", when that game doesn't happen until Saturday. I guess "fringe player tryout game" doesn't sound as good.

ROBBIE FUCKING FINDLEYDAMARCUS FUCKING BEASLEYbut no CD9FUCK.THIS.SHIT.

Shocked no Brian Ching, that is such an anti-Bob Bradley type move (I like it), and of course he picked Bornstein. It could have been worse.[Edited on May 26, 2010 at 1:33 PM. Reason : f]
5/26/2010 1:25:33 PM
Bornstein is the only one I have a problem with.
5/26/2010 2:55:46 PM
good for him for not choosing Ching or Johnson
5/26/2010 2:59:25 PM
5/26/2010 4:25:53 PM
yea ching is no good, but why robbie findley. i wanted to see the flyin' hawaiin' at the world cup
5/26/2010 4:35:17 PM
As much as I hate to say it, Ching should have made it over Findley and maybe even Buddle. That's a scarily weak group of forwards. All I can say is that I hope Gomez starts.
5/26/2010 6:13:38 PM
findley nor ching wouldnt ever see the field anyways so it doesnt matterif i was going to put a 2nd line behind jozy and co, i would move landycakes or dempsey up and bring some of the central midfielders we havewe also need to find a way to have holden play, i like him[Edited on May 26, 2010 at 6:18 PM. Reason : yeah]
5/26/2010 6:18:09 PM
selecting four forwards makes me think bradley is leaning towards using dempsey in the midfield. in that respect, i disagree. i would rather see dempsey paired with altidore and the addition of bedoya or rogers in place of findley.
5/26/2010 6:19:03 PM
I say we go 4-2-3-1 with Altidore up top on his own and Landycakes, Dempsey, Holden behind him. I guess it could be looked at as a 4-4-1-1 too
5/26/2010 6:26:07 PM
i like altidore up front, with dempsey staggered right behind in an atk mid role. then lando on the left and holden on the right, with bradley at cm and edu at defensive mid. then whoever at defense. hopefully not, but probably bornstein on the left, gooch and bocanegra in the middle, and spector in the right.
5/26/2010 7:17:30 PM
like this?------- Altidore ----------------------------Dempsey--------Donovan-----Bradley------Holden--------------Edu---------------I was thinking more like this------------ Altidore ------------Donovan-----Dempsey-----Holden----------Edu--Bradley---------Spector--Gooch--Demerit--Boca------------Howard------------[Edited on May 26, 2010 at 7:27 PM. Reason : that was the backline for the Spain game, right?]
5/26/2010 7:25:55 PM
yea i was thinking that too, except i think boca is on the left cuz he's left footed and spector on the right cuz he has the most beautiful cross of anyone on the team
5/26/2010 7:36:37 PM
Yeah, why you have Boca and Spector both playing inverted is beyond me, so I'll assume that was just a mistake.I don't think Jozy has the ability or form to play as a lone striker. I think Dempsey in the hole would would work, however, if that's what your first formation is a depiction of.A 4-2-2-2 type deal might work as well, but only if it resembles a 4-4-2 at times and allows the attacking midfielders wide.
5/26/2010 10:02:04 PM
haven't kept up religiously with all of the players, what about Onyewu on the starting defense?has he not been playing well recently?
5/26/2010 10:21:28 PM
We suck.
5/26/2010 10:23:06 PM
^^^ yeah it was a mistake, chilllllDempsey in the hole or the other end up being the same thing to me because I don't think either one of those formations would stay that way in the flow of the game... all 3 behind Jozy would be free to move around and complement each other so it's not like Jozy would be stranded up top with us just knocking him long balls all gameI just can't see us starting with 2 forwards... maybe if we need a goal in the second half or something^ go away
5/26/2010 10:34:49 PM
5/27/2010 8:23:15 AM
when would a 4-2-2-2 ever benefit you more? why not just play a 4-4-2 the whole time?
5/27/2010 9:00:16 AM
brazil made a good living off the 4-2-2-2 (4-2-4)...that being said, the 4-2-2-2 would never work for usa. up top it would be great as forwards could interchange with the attacking mids behind them and either/or can push out wide, drop back, or push forward. and we have 2 center mids who could play the middle of the park behind them in bradley and most likely clark. the reason we could never play it is the back 4...brazil made great success with this formation cause their center backs could play as defensive mids with the ball at their feet but were also great enough to win tackles. and the wing-backs were great enough to push wide with the ball and rarely lost it, but were tactically sound enough to get back as well...i shudder at the fact at what we would look like playing a 4-2-2-2 with the errors you would see from our often time asleep back 4...there is no room for lack of awareness in this formation in the back as it is a really attacking formation.[Edited on May 27, 2010 at 9:23 AM. 5/27/2010 9:09:48 AM
4-2-2-2 is the same as 4-2-4?I guess that makes senseI was just trying to remember if i've ever seen "4-2-2-2" listed as a formation anywhere and I was drawing a blank
5/27/2010 9:31:37 AM
its not entirely the same but its pretty much a combo of 4-4-2 and 4-2-4...ive just heard it also called 4-2-4...i play something similar to a 4-2-4 on my manager games. it works with great success if you love watching goals fly in:if you see it listed anywhere its most likely gonna read out as "4-2-2-2 Brazil"[Edited on May 27, 2010 at 9:38 AM. 5/27/2010 9:42:14 AM
i think what he is trying to say is if you take that formation i just posted...but put the wide players on mine in line with the forwards and CMs then you have a 4-2-2-2 but what often happens is those players drift out wide during the game to setup plays. the final outcome in making the formation work, imo, is what i have drawn up tactically
5/27/2010 9:54:03 AM
I'm with ya now and I also agree that that would be bad news for us, considering our options at left/right back.I wouldn't be surprised if he comes out with a 4-5-1 in the England game, with Clark/Edu/Bradley in the middle and Holden on the bench.
5/27/2010 12:46:59 PM
5/27/2010 1:00:10 PM
I wouldn't mind seeing a 4-2-3-1 with Bradley and Edu holding down the defensive mid.
5/27/2010 6:14:37 PM
I was referring to what JT's formation shows for the most part. In that formation the wingers are forced to work hard, which is probably our strongest positions on the field. It also gives the wingers space to work with: think Donovan and either Dempsey or Holden. I don't know, after we see the real team on Saturday we'll know what really needs to happen.
5/27/2010 9:03:08 PM
One game you mother fuckers. One game Changes EVERYTHING. Prepare for world domination people! Ahhhhhhhhh! U-S-A! U-S-A!

The Microtel Hotel next to the Philly airport is full of USA supporters.
5/29/2010 8:49:03 AM
Howard; Spector, Goodson, DeMerit, Bocanegra; Feilhaber, Bradley, Clark, Donovan; Dempsey, Altidore.Bob's going with a 4-4-2 with Dempsey up top... looks good to me. Edu over Clark is the only difference I'd make but Clark's been Bradley's guy all through WCQ so not a real surprise[Edited on May 29, 2010 at 1:11 PM. Reason : .]
5/29/2010 1:10:27 PM
4-4-2? It looked like they just showed a 4-2-3-1
5/29/2010 1:36:37 PM
yea its not a bad formation either way, i think dempsey will be playing more forward than mid, so it could be considered either a 442 or 451 too
5/29/2010 1:40:38 PM
Let's see how Jozy does. This is going to show if he can play up there by himself. I think Dempsey's job is going to be to hold the ball up, slot it through for Jozy and have a go every once in a while.
5/29/2010 1:42:52 PM
^^^ I had only seen the list of the lineup, not the graphicBradley has said before he thinks we're best with two forwards so I'd guess it's more of a 4-4-2[Edited on May 29, 2010 at 1:46 PM. Reason : .]
5/29/2010 1:45:09 PM
yea hopefully it'll be like dempsey's role at fulham, cuz he plays so well like that
5/29/2010 1:45:10 PM
our D needs to get a LOT stronger...
5/29/2010 2:18:38 PM
Feilhaber is proving his worth again. Looks sharp.
5/29/2010 2:18:53 PM
yea he's been good except for that horrible turnover he kicked right into the box. it was very bornstein-esque. whether its holden or feilhaber starting, i'm happy with both.
5/29/2010 2:21:36 PM
Jozy shouldn't be getting pushed off the ball so easily.
5/29/2010 2:30:15 PM

5/29/2010 2:32:13 PM
we need gooch back healthy.
5/29/2010 2:33:40 PM
That move was pure brilliance.
5/29/2010 2:46:32 PM
pretty good so far, our offense is moving the ball around well and we've had good chances. our defense is letting way too many attackers get behind them though. theyve had too many good chances. i'm a little surprised that turkey didn't make the world cup they have a really solid team.
