Damn it's taken me a year and a half to get that kind of return with GOOG. Hard to complain, though.

GRMN is going to send me to an early grave, they nail earnings and realease great guidance, and this little blip about a bid for another company has caused it to tank

For any of you out there who trade options, if you set triggers to close your position, make sure to set them by the bid and not the ask...

I just ran my numbers today and included dividends for the first time. I've averaged 17% annually since I started playing the market. That means 50%+ when I hit my 3 year anniversary in March. Good enough for me. Beats the hell out of shucking oysters.

When you guys buy individual stocks, what's the average amount?
11/1/2007 10:51:08 AM

I think I've got too much sitting in my money market. Maybe I'll pick up 3K of GOOG.
11/1/2007 2:16:30 PM
^^^ generally shoot for about $1000have gone a little more occassionally, and sometimes will buy a smaller position of maybe $600 or so.the bigger my portfolio gets (in terms of total value), the larger purchases I make (when I started, I was buying stocks $300-400 at a time).
11/1/2007 7:09:10 PM
Damn, I was out scuba diving all day today and wasn't near a computer. Had no idea what was going on with the markets. Glad I didn't buy CROX...but now it's a perfect buying opportunity. I have some Crocs and I LOVE them. I've completely worn mine out. I volunteer with the scuba program here at NCSU and I wear them all day on Tuesdays/Thursdays when I'm at the pool. Plenty of traction, comfortable, no worries if they get wet. I don't really care about fashion so that doesn't matter to me.
11/1/2007 8:41:21 PM
I'd also like to mention that my stocks were raped today. Apparently I wasn't the only one.
11/1/2007 8:44:18 PM

11/5/2007 1:52:22 PM
Unfortunately I only have $30 worth of cash in my Scottrade account. The rest is in the market...I'd have to sell something to buy something else.

11/5/2007 2:09:19 PM
Just sold 450 shares of SCUR for $9.85. I figured it was time to put it into something else. Made 12% on it -- no complaints here. While I'd rather have made more, I had a better return than hiding it under the mattress or in the bank...[Edited on November 5, 2007 at 2:33 PM. Reason : ]

what the fuck, GRMN?
11/5/2007 3:30:27 PM
Is it time to pick up some C or should I wait and see if it falls further?I also gave some thought to picking up more VMW, but it's already had quite a run so I'm reluctant to.
11/5/2007 3:33:38 PM
GOOG had already made a nice run when I got it at $343 in March of '06. Look at it now. If you look closely, Google Finance occasionally makes mistakes -- red when something should be green or something along those lines. I'm really hoping this is a mistake...
