Just found this.

im sure if my eye sight was better, i could appreciate it even more but those are pretty high quality

Just bought the Nkon d40 after reading some good reviews on a couple sites, and believing it to be a great entry level camera. got the lens kit, but I plan on buying a new lens in a few months, I'm content learning the cam inside and out before buying a really nice lens. Expect some good shots from me soon (maybe I should start by putting up some from my p&s later)..
3/20/2007 1:06:47 PM
^ Check out the Nikon 50mm f/1.8. Good lens, about $100. I learned tons more about my camera and technique by using that lens than I did with the kit lens for my D50.
3/20/2007 7:50:38 PM
don't think the 50mm 1.8 will work on the d40. i'll check on that though
3/20/2007 8:04:45 PM
I forgot about the lens compatibility thing...
3/20/2007 9:26:56 PM
it will meter, but you'll have to manually focus as it has no internal motor.
3/20/2007 11:29:49 PM
this is why i do not like the d40. i'd be different if it were manual lenses... but the d40 seems to cut down the functionality of alot of really really good lenses.
3/20/2007 11:44:30 PM
^exactly why I wouldn't have one. if im going to lose functionality it better be a lot cheaper, but it isn't.
3/21/2007 12:04:00 AM
I know in tight spots or in darker situations it could pose a problem, but is manual focusing that much of a bitch?
3/21/2007 11:37:18 AM
yes. not in the situations where you can take the time and have the light. but in the situations where you don't, you really can't. well, you can, but unless you want to measure distances and guess and check...
3/21/2007 1:12:17 PM
It just may be my limited skill, but I have very very very few pictures turn out well that I've focused myself.
3/21/2007 5:59:27 PM
you just need to work on it. it's all trial and error, but if you have a good sense of the distance to your focal point, you'll have discovered how much better you can achieve focus.

43-ZiP!-
3/21/2007 8:04:03 PM
I can't really see clearly enough through the viewfinder to make sure that what I want is in focus. I think I need a patch over the other eye, less squinting
3/22/2007 12:37:31 AM
I believe even in manual focus, a green dot appears when the subject comes into focus on my camera.
3/22/2007 12:47:24 PM
We made it to Hatteras lighthouse today
3/24/2007 9:37:47 PM
i dont see how this is different than any other camera
3/24/2007 9:40:29 PM
that green dot is kinda sorta accurate. kinda sorta. i'd use manual focus all the time if i had a cross screen in my camera. can't really follow that dot very much. i've tried.
3/24/2007 11:09:30 PM
word... anyone tried the nikon 55-200 VR lens? i've heard it's a bargain at 250, but there are much better lenses for twice that..Headed to toronto this week, hopefully I can get some good shots
3/25/2007 11:09:22 PM
Is this a good deal? They have this auction alot, and I am trying to get into photography. I don't need a total pro camera, but I do want one with room to grow. This seems to come with alot of stuff.http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Canon-350D-EOS-Digital-Rebel-XT-1GB-3-LENS-USA_W0QQitemZ290097677541QQcategoryZ107909QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemalso looking at this one..http://cgi.ebay.com/CANON-EOS-Digital-REBEL-XTi-Camera-4500-USM-3-Lens-4GB_W0QQitemZ130092257996QQcategoryZ147173QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem[Edited on March 26, 2007 at 2:04 PM. you need to go to wolfcamera and hold the canon and nikon to see which one feels better in your hand unless you are just a canon fanboyi really like the canon xti but i didnt like the way it felt holding itthe nikon d50 felt much more comfy w/out the need of an aftermarket grip

I may take the time Tuesday to go down and tell her to just stop bothering. It's not even as if there's a set 'it's in the second week of April' guideline that we know way in advance we need to have something ready for.
4/1/2007 2:01:46 PM
See if they'll take late entires. I could turn something in by Friday.

I need some help with purchasing a D-SLR. Right now I'm looking at a used D70 or a new D40.I know you can't compare the two as far as features are concerned. Does anyone have experience in buying used D-SLR's.
4/10/2007 6:12:44 PM
^ hey man sorry i missed your pm i was taking a nap!
4/10/2007 6:13:42 PM
Its cool man, just hit me up whenever.
4/10/2007 6:15:57 PM
we will get together
4/10/2007 6:17:08 PM
Used D70
4/10/2007 6:19:45 PM
do you prefer Canon. Or are you saying that you shouldn't buy used d-slr's at all
4/10/2007 6:37:45 PM
^ If you're going to go with a Nikon, check out a used D50 or D70. The D40 is lacking on some features and doesn't work with some lenses. I can't comment about buying a used DSLR over a new one though...
4/10/2007 8:44:42 PM

I thought I would be cool today and take all my pictures in RAW. After copying them off the camera, it looks like almost every single one will need to be fucked with.Is there an automagical way I can easily fix all of them?
4/14/2007 6:44:01 PM
not unless they all need to be fixed the exact same way. if that is the case then you can just automate the process. but. the thing about raw is that you can do more to it. when you shoot raw you have to EXPECT to work on the photos at least a lil.
4/14/2007 6:46:47 PM
That makes me a saaaad panda. Is there some book or site where I can learn how to do this shit? Which program is the best -- nikon capture, lightroom, or aperture?
4/14/2007 6:49:12 PM
all of them are good programs. lightroom doesn't really have any heavy editing. more like a darkroom. nothing for like adding and subtracting stuff. but good for color correcting and such. never used ap. NC i used maybe once. i tend to stick with photoshop.
