that trivia game has ALOT of bugs, it would continually give me the wrong answers for the question, like it would ask me a question about what hydrophilic meant then give me some dudes names as the answers and stuff.

gg 30thAnnZ on the increased production! Its looking like you'll level out at around 2500-3000ppd which is a huge help!
8/21/2007 1:36:49 PM
thanks. i'm still adding a few more clients. i'm up to 33 at the moment and i think i'll probably top out for now around 38 or so...getting a dual core machine in in a few days and i'll get that one going too
8/21/2007 3:00:47 PM
^awesome keep it upwow, 30+ single core = 3000ppd2 dual core C2D's = 3000ppdsomething's not right with the point scheme[Edited on August 21, 2007 at 3:16 PM. Reason : .]

it should go higher than 3000right now only 23 clients have reported ini've got 2 or 3 that are REAL SLOWand the rest i've added since yesterday, so they should be reporting in by tomorrow. most are on the 2 days per work unit schedule
8/21/2007 3:44:58 PM
Funny thing is you will have ~38 running smooth and one you have to baby sit. I am just assuming the extra points SMP make is kinda baby sitting payment.
8/21/2007 5:30:58 PM
8/21/2007 6:52:03 PM
^^ i'm running a smp at home and don't have to babysit...and i assume scanzero doesnt have to babysit all his smp clients either. just clean install again of you're having problems. i'm sure the smp will become more stable when it makes it out of beta (whenever that is to be)
8/21/2007 9:52:37 PM
^ I baby sit....every workday morning I check the smp clients (I think I have 11 smp clients running). I never touch normal ones unless I'm logging into the machine for another reason. So I have ssh sessions to all the machines tailing logs and Fahmon works well enough for tracking windows smp clients. If a WU is bad/hung...I restart them.^^^ what he said [Edited on August 22, 2007 at 11:47 AM. Reason : asdfasdf]
8/22/2007 11:46:20 AM
What virus scanner are your running? I find if I pause/snooze it, I have decent results starting. I am using ezarmor on the computer that has the problem. That doesn't mean that I am not hanging later though. I have had mine hang at 99, then I jump in to save the day, and it has expired. It is frustrating, I think I would be getting much more points if it ran correctly. Either way it is better than the regular client point wise. If I get one smp every two weeks that is worth as much as the old client running the entire two weeks.
8/22/2007 1:22:10 PM
Only SAV on the windows machines, none on the linux machines. The thing I see alot is 1 core abnormally terminating, leaving 3 remaining. So once I stop and restart everything picks back up before that 1 core abnormally terminated. Some of the work units have interesting stats they push out at the end. We'll see how this pastes into the post:

anyone checked out the conquest chart lately? in the next 1.4 months, we'll move up 6 spots, and only down 1...so we're headed up the ladder pretty quickly as long as we can keep this momentum going. lets keep adding machines and shoot up the chart some. it'd be awesome to beat our previous high of 81!http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_overtake.php?s=&t=59&p=1

I'm all for going above team rank 81! Anyone want to take a stab at making a flyer for the campus? I made a real simple one as a PDF that I could take to kinkos, but thought someone might have better ideas than me....http://thewolfweb.com/photo_photo.aspx?user=2930&photo=484851Keep in mind it'll be a flyer (no need for crazy colors). But it would be nice to be short and sweet somehow to capture the person's attention.WTB a Tech Talk subform only for folding posts This post has good info but its buried in all the pages.[Edited on August 23, 2007 at 11:34 AM. ^Good idea! For P41Support Cancer Research and the NCSU Wolfpack With Your Computer's Spare Time! If you're like most people you've got a computer that spends a lot of time idling on a blank screen or running a cool screensaver. Did you know it's possible to directly support Cancer, Alzheimer's, and Cystic Fibrosis research using your computer's idle time? The Stanford University Folding@home project provides a small piece of software which uses your computer?s spare processing power to run simulations and help researchers understand these diseases. The NCSU Wolfpack Folding@home team has been ranked as high as 81st in the world but we were recently knocked out of the Top 100. While our team has had much success in the past, if we don't get some new computers and PS3s running soon we'll keep moving farther down the ladderGot a PS3? PS3s currently provide over 60% of the processing power in the Folding@home network! Each PS3 that joins the NCSU Folding Team provides huge boost and brings us closer to getting back in the Top 100! If you have one watch the video below to see how easy it is to setup the client and help the NCSU Wolfpack Folding team.Links:Wikipediahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folding_at_homeOfficial Stanford Folding@home Websitehttp://folding.stanford.edu/NCSU Wolfpack Folding@home Websitehttp://www.fah.genejockeys.comWolfweb Threadmessage_topic.aspx?topic=118820NCSU Team Stats Pagehttp://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=59http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_list.php?s=Folding Forumshttp://forum.folding-community.org/forums.htmlMonitor your client(s) with this programhttp://fahmon.silent-blade.org/Download The Client Here:http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html We recommend using the "No-nonsense text-only" client for most computers. For multi-core systems, the SMP client will get you and the team far more points than the traditional client (but it doesn't start as a service, so you'll have to restart the client manually or automatically when your computer restarts). If you have a Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading, its best to turn off Hyperthreading in the BIOS if you know how. If you have an ATI X1800 or X1900 series graphics card you can even run Folding@home on your graphics card (with great results). Installation InstructionsEnter a UsernameEnter Team [59] (thats the important part)Launch automatically at machine startup, installing this as a service [yes]Ask before fetching/sending [no]Use internet explorer settings [no]Use Proxy [no] (unless you want to use a proxy)Allow receipt of work assignments and return of work results greater than 5MB [yes]Change Advanced Options: [no]The folding client will run in the background as a service at low priority and won't interfere with your work/fun or slow down your computer at all. And you can run as many PC and PS3 clients you want under your username to contribute to your points and to the team points. If you have any questions feel free to contact me or any other member of the team.]

someone want to start a facebook group for the NCSU Folding@home team? If so, fill it with info thats in that big post and be sure to link to both the genejockeys website and this thread. The important part is to lead people to the website or this thread for more info.

Nice Prospero, I'll definitely use yours Btw, any reason why I cannot add the folding group in facebook? Join button is missing...
8/24/2007 12:21:29 AM
JW, but im sure this has already been asked prolly, but would it be possible to run F@H on the lab computers and stuff, i mean those just sit idle ALOT of the time. Or will the tech dept not allow it to be installed?
8/24/2007 12:50:34 AM
^^^ pretty cool application...only problem is it leads people to sign up for the facebook team instead of the NCSU team. wonder if the developer would share his code ^^ you should see the "Join This Group" link near the picture^ i'm sure they wouldn't allow it to be installed...for various reasons.
8/24/2007 1:04:48 AM
^^no clue, it's a public open group, if you are still having issues you can PM me your email and i can invite you even though it's not required.
8/24/2007 1:12:48 AM
that sucks cuz even just loading F@H onto one computer lab into each building would give us a huge boost in points. now they just need to make a sparc version so we can run it on old sun servers
8/24/2007 1:19:27 AM
get this guys, i recently lost my PC2-8500 (1066mhz) memory and had to RMA it, at the time i was running 1 WU on SMP in about 22 hours.i swapped it out with some PC2-5400 (667mhz) i had lying around. i OC'd it to 800mhz and it's STILL taking 8 hours longer, meaning instead of 22hours/WU it's now only doing 30hours/WU. big difference speed of ram and cpu have to do with folding. (my cpu is down to 2.4 instead of 3.0 as well due to FSB required to OC) that's like a 33% hit in performance, while the cpu probably had more to do with it, the speed of memory impacted at least 5-10% of the performance hit.[Edited on August 24, 2007 at 1:27 AM. 9/6/2007 11:30:13 AM
Is there a client for this that will run under BOINC
9/6/2007 11:38:40 AM
My production has gone up since I got the new PS3 client. It might have something to do with Advanced WUs.
9/6/2007 12:03:26 PM
I started doing the advanced WU's on the PS3 update, but it seemed like my production went WAY dawn so I switched back to standard WU's. Maybe I should switch back.
9/6/2007 12:14:42 PM
^ yeah i'd say give it a chance...maybe the first wu isn't working right, i bet the points will go up for the new version. if you want to look into it, here's some good info: http://forum.folding-community.org/forum55,ps3-client.html

9/6/2007 2:18:19 PM
Are there any optimized client builds? Like say for a dual p4 xeon box?
9/6/2007 2:26:14 PM
the SMP client was written for multi-core systems, and will run on any multi-core proc...usually with great results. the smp clients are the top performing client currently, and you can run it on Linux, Mac or Windows systems. there aren't any clients that i know of that are custom build for different procs though...only single core vs multi core for the PCs.http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html]
9/6/2007 2:59:29 PM
Unless im missing something the SMP one doesn't run properly as a service.

GO GO GO FOLD FOLD FOLD
9/6/2007 3:30:38 PM
^^ i'm not sure about the service thing. i created a shortcut to fah.exe, and put the shortcut in my startup directory. then i used the program called tray-it to minimize the folding window to my system tray.^ badass, glad you're on board. one thing though: "previous termination was improper, going to use standard loops." if it detects "improper termination," it really slows down the progress of your folding client. i would use the shortcut as i detailed above, or just create a shortcut to the executable and don't add it to the startup if you don't want to, then use -forceasm as a command line argument in the properties of the shortcut to ensure your folding client always uses the best process. this gets you the best performance and gets the most points. (if you're running as a service, you have to ad the -forceasm flag as a registry entry)
9/6/2007 4:05:41 PM
I exited it by clicking the x. Is there a better way to do it? I did create a shortcut put it doesn't have the -forceasm line, so I'll add that in there.
