If you think we're so talentless, then name a better receiver corps in the ACC. While you're at it, tell me why we snuffed out the running game of almost everyone we played. we weren't trying to win the SEC here, so we didn't need a bunch of NFL draft picks talent wise.

Look, our receivers are pretty average. How many dropped punts does Graham need to have, or dropped passes in the endzone for you to acknowledge that they aren't the best group of wideouts. They're definitely not the worse, but they aren't amazing. And today, they couldn't catch their way out of a wet paper bag. How many times have we watched our receivers drop catch-able balls this game/year? And I find it funny that you're willing to give our defense credit for the huge turnaround this season while simultaneously ignoring the glaring change of defensive schemes (read: Tenuta/Blitzing schemes).I could buy the "we have amazing talent, we should be winning more" argument when we had Chuck as our coach, but I really think we've accomplished a lot with a little all things considered. Now, eventually, we'll need both the talent/coaching to win the ACC, but it's not going to happen over night, and we showed an amazing improvement this season, which doesn't warrant emotional overreacting from the fanbase.[Edited on November 27, 2010 at 10:42 PM. some of yall are fuckin ridiculous
11/27/2010 10:41:48 PM
I don't look at this team and see a squad full of talent I see a team carried on the back of a few players who give a shitThe rest of the team is a pack of quitters/mental cases and I'm fuckin sick of itLet's just say I'm glad that the acc will be well represented in a bcs bowl this year by one of two teams that didn't quit and fought, I frankly think we are gonna get taken behind the shed in whatever bowl we play in because our record is good enough to not get matched up with a patsy Scary to think we could get an Iowa or a west Virginia or any comparable teamEven a Utah
11/27/2010 10:42:36 PM
As much as our defense improved this year, our secondary was still pretty poor. CJ Wilson got torn up today by their number 1 receiver and we did nothing to adjust and to be honest I don't know who else we couldve thrown at him that wouldve been much better.

11/27/2010 10:48:04 PM
It's only Maryland ruining our shit b/c we play them in last game of the season a lot. If it wasn't them, it would have been someone else. That's just how we roll.
11/27/2010 10:49:11 PM
yep. at least maryland is decent. The clemson game is the real travesty this season IMO--conference wise at least.
11/27/2010 10:51:01 PM
Maybe but them boys always come to play even when they get their shit kicked in I wish we had a lil of that nowadays
11/27/2010 10:51:55 PM

11/27/2010 10:55:35 PM
^^ yeah, there are many many reasons State lost, and the refs are way way down on that list
11/27/2010 10:57:20 PM
Look, you can't just make shit up to work backwards to your statement. Our receivers are beyond adequate, other teams DC just know what they are going to get when they play us and we don't do anything different. So we have a QB having to throw into triple coverage, throw way down the field into tough spots, and so on and so forth. Jarvis is about 2 inches and 10 lbs short of being another JC and he sitll gets his catches. Owen could break long bombs every game if the plays were drawn properly and called at the right times. TJ, eh.
11/27/2010 11:00:07 PM
^^^We tried to make Owen Spencer a "go to" receiver today and he totally fucking gave up on 2 balls, alligator armed 2 more, and flat dropped a few others that. He dropped two sure touchdown passes. And if I have to watch Jay Smith drop another pass that hits him in the fucking face I'm going to throw the TV out the window. Not worth watching us suck so much ass. Wilson IMO is a little overrated because he can't make up for the horrible fucking play calling and O-line play he's received since the 2nd half of the VT game, but he could also be a lot fucking better if we got him out of the pocket more and gave him some receivers that could either consistently get open, catch passes that hit them in the head, or both just sometimes. That said about Wilson, its our receivers who get way too much fucking credit. [Edited on November 27, 2010 at 11:07 PM. Reason : ]

Hahah, you're full of shit. He pulled his arms in on one at the goal line that he had his hands on and just didn't pull it all the way back in. He's been lit the fuck up on plays like that all year, and I don't know if you noticed, he's kind of small.
11/27/2010 11:06:11 PM
11/27/2010 11:09:13 PM
^^you're an idiot. He's a senior wide receiver and should step up and make a play. He should expect to be hit anyway, may as well make an attempt to catch the ball....plus the one he pulled in his arms at the end of the 1st half he wasn't going to be touched.^I like the guy too but I'm not gonna sit here and act like he's the one making wilson look great. Of course man, every fucking player on the field makes the perfect play 100% of the time. Holy fuck dude, look at the body of work. Graham has track speed and can't get open down the slot with an easy catch the entire season? Does he just suck that much at route running?
11/27/2010 11:11:14 PM
Spencer has a history of this...that was my point.

I dono do we even have runningbacks any more? That's what I give a damn about given our skill guys id rather keep the ball out of the air and out of russels hands as soon and as much as possibleOne, he shouldn't be the only guy charged with moving the ball downfield solely taking a beating, second I don't feel he is yet dependable with the ball and for the love of god if youre athletic enough to run backward 15 yards you are athletic enough to evade a step left or right
11/27/2010 11:17:41 PM
Ok conspiracy theory moment here.wxii12 just reported that "NC State battled back in the forth quarter but was unable to recover the onside kick"
11/27/2010 11:21:15 PM
people bitching about Spencer must not remember the touchdown catch he had last week. He's improved tremendously since his freshman year, but he'll never live down the image of a receiver who can't catch.
11/27/2010 11:21:31 PM
Alright, I can't really keep arguing this anymore.you originally stated that you think we have "plenty of talent" that is squandered by poor coaching. I disagree, because I think our play calling today put our receivers in positions to make plays, which is all a coach can do. The rest is up to the player, and on many occasions today, and in previous games, we've come out with goose eggs. Now I'm not sitting here and saying that the play calling has been perfect all season. It hasn't. But when receivers drop wide-open passes, or don't have the confidence/ability to make a play when given multiple opportunities, it's hard for me to blame the coaches when the players are put in a position to make something happen. I don't know what our completion/attempts ratio was today, but I'm sure it wasn't pretty, and only a handful of passes were batted down/overthrown. Today was an exceptionally poor performance by our receivers. I really don't see how anyone can overlook that. I don't really know what else to say, honestly. Unless you're expecting razzle-dazzle every other play for wide-open receivers with 15 yard cushions, I don't know how you could be upset with the playcalling. And on top of all of that, we were in a position to find ourselves in the ACC championship game. Something NONE of us expected coming into the season, and we were in EVERY game we played this year. Obviously, the players made plays to have a good season, but somebody had to put them in a position to make that happen, right?

11/27/2010 11:22:47 PM
It's odd you pin this on the receivers when most of the people I was watching it with seemed to think RW was just...off...today. Yeah, there were drops as there are every game, but I don't remember this game having a ton of them that should have just plain been caught. The Spencer one and the J. Smith one late but I'm drawing a bit of a blank on obvious ones in quarters 1-3. George Bryans I suppose. The Smith and Bryan drops weren't great throws. Catchable, sure. But not good throws.
11/27/2010 11:25:37 PM
do you know how hard it is to grab a deflected ball that is moving that fast? It was lucky in that the defender was too stupid to deflect it out of bounds, but it took skill to actually catch that ball instead of just letting it fall to the ground.^yeah, I thought Wilson seemed off today too. He kept trying to run backwards out of the pocket instead of stepping into it. He had a couple of sacks caused by him running backwards when the pocket wasn't even collapsing. Our play calling didn't do anything to try to help him out though.[Edited on November 27, 2010 at 11:28 PM. Reason : ^]

11/27/2010 11:34:23 PM
I....I.....I.....I can't keep doing this. at the top of the page you claimed we had the best receiving corp in the ACC. In the UNC game, you're acknowledging the talent required to make an outstanding catch (and it was an outstanding catch) and now you are excusing them for dropped passes against Maryland (and simultaneously blaming the coaches). So if they are extremely talented, then they are inconsistent as hell, at the very least.[Edited on November 27, 2010 at 11:43 PM. Reason : ]
I did not see a RW classic, throw into triple coverage, did that occur today? Also, it seems like our WRs are slow and only have one gear, no break away speed. I wish we could recruit WR talent like Clemson does.

i blame this loss, like every loss we suffered the past three years, on our chicken shit defense. and until we can get a defensive stop by some other means than a wide open receiver dropping the ball, i'll continue to blame the defense for our losses.
