Germany is looking pretty good clean crisp passes and being patient but going quickly once they find a hole.

Damn, Germany is looking great... very patient (60%+ possession), lots of small touches, and they're putting on a clinic for making runs and pushing balls forward into space. If they can continue to dictate the pace of their games like this, they'll be hard to stop.

regardless of how bad australia is playing on defense (not as bad as the us or even england last night)

germany is probably the most impressive team in the tournament so far.

wow, that is not a red card challenge. obvious foul, easily justified yellow, but I don't see that being a red at all.

Yeah a straight red in the World Cup has to be a fucking malicious and obvious tackle, give him the yellow and tell him if he does anything like that again he is gone. Especially sending off a teams best player is kinda rough

Clipped him from behind, but didn't have legs extended, didn't have cleats out... that's not a red. Bloody hell.

yep. he was late and he knew it and tried to pull back. no malicious intent there at all and it wasn't that reckless even.

Australia look like they may have just opened up the game after the red... probably a "fuck it" type of reaction since realistically they don't have much of a shot with a thin bench and now no Cahill next game too.

they were just as dominant...if Ozil didn't have such a lead foot he would have had 2 himself in the first half

^^i think they played costa rica in '06.

Quote :

i think ireland might think uefa has the worse refs. (but yeah, i'm not a fan of concacaf refs)

to me, this game just showed that australia isn't ready to play with the big boys (no big surprise, really), and that the '06 showing was closer to a fluke than improved quality. germany looked strong, but i'm not entirely convinced they have strong midfield play (ozil looked particularly shaky out there and i don't see him doing well against tougher competition), and the red card coupled with the weak opposition made it hard to entirely asses what germany has to offer. they certainly have no shortage of firepower up front, but i'm thinking germany won't really be tested until the knockout stage (with maybe a goal allowed against ghana).

Germany looked good. I had sort of dismissed them.

They looked way better than the over-hyped England side. I see England in round of 16 or quarterfinals exit and Germany at least a semifinal team.
