I know this is an old, dead horse, but listening to Evil Urges is significantly worse than being diagnosed with a severely malignant cancer.

You know I knew about that but somehow just completely forgot about it.

The one with Kaki King is the one I really want though

Was hoping to listen to it before the show Wednesday but I guess I'll just buy it there.

^why do you say that?

I really enjoy it.

It expands on the Follow the Lights EP that he released last year. I've had it for about a week and have listened to it probably 4 times through but I haven't found any reason why I don't like it. I think the first three songs are great.

Also, from reading his blog and some other things it appears as though he's really embraced the band aspect as they plan on only being referred to as The Cardinals instead of "Ryan Adams and.."

i'll try to link where i read that.

^^^, ^^

Admittedly, I have only listened to it a couple times, so I will be giving it more chances, but nothing really stands out. The first couple of tracks are pretty good, then it just becomes pretty bland. It really does just sound like another Ryan Adams album, which at this point may not be a good thing. While there is nothing I can really point to be as being inherently "bad" on any of the songs, they are for the most generic and forgettable (I reserve the right to retract all of this if on subsequent listens I start enjoying the album lol). He's kind of got the Ryan Adams formula now and can just crank these things out with no effort.

I felt the same way about Easy Tiger. It was pretty solid and I enjoyed listening to it, but within a few months I had put it away and don't think I've listened to it since.

I guess I'm just waiting for another Heartbreaker or Jacksonville City Nights.

Ryan Adams makes decent albums in his sleep, bad albums as a joke, and a great album every five years.

Been listening to Q-tip's Renaissance, John Legend's Evolver, and Raphael Saadiqu's The Way I see It, a lot recently.

Love Renaissance. I heard him play a few of these tracks (the more upbeat ones) when he opened for Common about 5 months ago and got really excited about the album. Not quite as upbeat as I thought it was, but still love it as a whole. Really like the tracks with Norah Jones and Raphael Saadiq. Overall just a great album...good beats and solid delivery and lyrics from Q-tip as usual.

Little disappointed in Evolver. I feel like Legend was perfect with the first album...balancing the hip-hop-ish tracks with the piano ballads. Then the 2nd album, although still good, was a little too heavy with the slow love songs. I don't really know how to describe this one...it's like it tries to be more hip-hop-ish like the first album with the beats...but just isn't upbeat enough. But I am disappointed in the lack of pianos and slower ballads. I hope he can find the balance he had in the first album if he decides to come out with more albums.

The Way I See It might be one of my favorite albums of the year...if not at the top. Raphael takes it back to the old school R&B days...and doesn't break character for the whole album. Great tracks with Joss Stone and Stevie Wonder...as well as a remix with Jay-z that's not too bad. I love that old Temptations-style music...and he puts a decent modern twist on it that has me listening to this album over and over again.

I was a little more excited about the Flaming Lips leak than Animal Collective... but then I realized it was only a soundtrack.

(although, what I've heard does sound pretty good.... they're just always hit or miss for me... and when they miss, they miss bad)

Copeland's album has continued to grow on me a ton, went from being on the edge of my top of 2008 list to easily one of my favorites of the year. The guest female vocals are so perfectly placed and haunting.

Yea, I mean its a really down tempo album. Even as a big fan of their earlier stuff (not as much their last record an EP before this) I was pretty bored with this the first couple listens as I was disappointed with the mainly piano driven songs. But it has grown on me a lot - but that could be because I have been so stressed out the past few weeks so it has been a great album to put on at work to de-stress too

But I can definitely see people thinking its boring. I mean I know that I think The National is boring and a lot of friends of mine and a lot of people on here absolutely loved their last 2 albums.
