They charge for it?Damn. The version on installer is free. Looks like I will be keeping it then.

http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/04/iphone-3g-lines-start-at-the-apple-cube-one-week-early/Wow, the line has already started at the Manhattan store.
7/6/2008 1:43:52 PM
I hope all the ways to get a no-contract phone for < $699 shake out soon after launch.
7/6/2008 1:47:39 PM
^^That's not a line for the new iphone. That's a nutjob looking for his 15 minutes in the spotlight.
7/6/2008 2:18:44 PM
Wow as much as I am excited about the iphone, this videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvCMp99dMqIreally shows why I can't stand Apple people.
7/8/2008 12:30:30 PM
Funny I just tried to watch that on my iPhone and it said the video wasnot supported by iPhone. First time I've seen that
7/8/2008 1:00:34 PM
So what do you think the lines will be like? I have heard estimates that they will be able to move a hundred people per hour.
7/10/2008 8:36:16 AM
so what's going on this morning? I hear iTunes 7.7 is out and the App store is open for business... Is the new firmware out yet?
7/10/2008 8:42:27 AM
http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2008/07/09/iphone-3g-reviews-reviewed/went into the at&t store last night to ask a few questions, like switching my number, to make sure that i didnt show up tomorrow and not have something that i need. and he was a total ass. guess i was the millionth person to ask about the damned thing, but srsly, it's his job!
7/10/2008 9:31:23 AM
^ I'd rather them just be assholes than be completely clueless like they were when I went in the other day... it doesn't make me too confident for tomorrow, I got a feeling I'll be there for a LONG time waiting to get my phone. When I asked about it, they acted like they had no idea they were even selling the iphone
7/10/2008 9:35:50 AM
I guess that's true.I was just looking at the mobile me application. (I looked through here and didn't see a reference to it) but any thoughts on it being worth the $100 a year subscription? I like the idea of not having to dock the iphone and just having it synch automatically.
7/10/2008 9:46:01 AM
Ok, new question I think:I bought an iPhone last year the week they came out, obviously signed the two years or whatever it was. I used that phone up until a month ago because I dropped it into water and yea, it never came back on. So, I bought a blackberry on craigslist and put my SIM card in that. To get the data services and voicemail to work I have to call and switch to a blackberry data plan and give them my new IMEI.Now, if i was still using the iPhone I know I'd be able to upgrade for $199 or whatever it is but how is it going to work now?? Any idea how at&t is going to handle cases like this? Also, could i just switch the IMEI they have on record back to the iPhone one before I go into the store and that be the end of it??I dunno..hopefully at&t has thought about this situation.. I can't possibly be the only one who signed up for a 2 year contract and have moved away from an iphone for whatever reason...
7/10/2008 10:00:43 AM
You should qualify for the new iPhone at $200 without a problem since they didn't subsidize your current phone (nor the original iPhone).
7/10/2008 1:14:09 PM
I sure as hell hope so considering I'm paying MORE per month now on the blackberry than I was with the iPhone and they paid 0 on either of them hardware wise.
7/10/2008 1:15:46 PM
anybody try to install the new firmware yet?
7/10/2008 1:17:33 PM
i'm waiting for the release... i think the one floating around now is still a BETA.
7/10/2008 2:54:44 PM
http://gizmodo.com/5023971/iphone-os-20-unlocked-yes
7/10/2008 6:19:16 PM
they need to release prepaid plan pricing
7/10/2008 9:20:05 PM
I just went for the new firmware... pandora is awesome, even on EDGE
7/10/2008 9:26:49 PM
so what are my chances of walking in saturday or sunday to an at&t store and getting one?
7/10/2008 10:57:06 PM
^^ how do you do pandora?^ i'm wondering the same thing
7/11/2008 12:28:33 AM
there's a pandora app in the app store
7/11/2008 12:33:10 AM
7/11/2008 12:34:54 AM
I've had 2.0 running for a little over 10 hours. A lot of it's features are very cool, including maps and Pandora. The big thing for me was the remote application (the iTunes/Apple TV one). This makes me want a new one more. There's one glaring problem, applications can't remain running in the background. AIM does NOT deliver new messages once you're out of the application for example. I'm hoping this'll be fixed soon...
7/11/2008 2:16:10 AM
they said that will be ready in September
7/11/2008 6:47:45 AM
i'll be at the at&t store later todayfigured i'd avoid the rush since my situation is a little weirdthe OLAM says i'm not eligible for an subsidized upgrade until 8/29... but after all the shit at&t has put me through, and considering my bill is pushing $120/month... do you think i could talk them in to giving me the upgrade this little bit early?
7/11/2008 6:54:33 AM
^Why would they? I'm sure they would rather sell you the phone for $texas instead of $rhode island. And they are going to get your recurring revenue anyway with the new pound-me-in-the-ass data/text plan.
7/11/2008 7:12:48 AM
because if they don't i'll most likely just cancel my service once the contract is up (on 8/29)it's all about customer retention, manthey don't need to know i'm willing to pay more for it
7/11/2008 7:15:55 AM
i'm gonna tell em
7/11/2008 7:27:19 AM
they better f'in lemme have one for $199 dammit
7/11/2008 7:35:50 AM
hey if any of you guys go today let us know which store you went to and how long it took...
7/11/2008 8:28:28 AM
drove by walnut street at&t store and it looked like a madhousei hear north hills isn't much betteri'd wait until 2-3pm or so and see if they have any left
7/11/2008 9:07:51 AM
meh i'll wait a week, f that mess
7/11/2008 9:16:41 AM
well crabtree has a ton of staff...so that might be the best bet
7/11/2008 9:18:19 AM
whenever someone gets one please post your exact total on the receipt. i have a hard time believing you'll be able to walk out of there just paying $199 + tax[Edited on July 11, 2008 at 9:35 AM. Reason : ]
7/11/2008 9:35:15 AM
what else would they charge? activation bullshit? dont think they can do that unless you're opening a new account
7/11/2008 9:37:00 AM
oh im sure they'll figure something out...at&t and apple (especially) excel at separating people from their money
7/11/2008 9:57:52 AM
i want one!
7/11/2008 9:59:32 AM
If anyone has any success convincing them to give you one at 199 even if you have a couple months left before re-uping let us know about it!
7/11/2008 10:31:36 AM
i think my situation is a weird one..i posted it above. does anybody else have any idea what they'll do??? i'm already paying the same as what the iphone plan is going to end up being because the blackberry unlimited plans were higher than the original iphone plananyways..just curious. i'll call next week, didn't wanna bug them today
7/11/2008 10:33:28 AM
Just got back from the North Hills Store, they ran out of 16 gig as early as 9:00 a.m.There were 5 left last I heard and a line still out the door. Now the line at the itunes activation has started.
7/11/2008 10:49:51 AM
7/11/2008 10:50:40 AM
yeah..at this price point they're gonna be dealing with some fucking idiots..and a whole whole whole fucking lot of them.i'll wait until the stupids are there in lower numbers
7/11/2008 10:53:05 AM
i got mine today
7/11/2008 10:58:52 AM
what was the bottom line price on the receipt?
7/11/2008 10:59:15 AM
since i'm not at&t and i got the 8G it was 210 with taxes. bought in DC, so not sure if the tax rate is different
7/11/2008 11:00:28 AM
^ so no activation or anything? not bad.
7/11/2008 11:10:45 AM
well you have to activate it when you buy it.
7/11/2008 11:13:25 AM
activation not included on the price. it comes on the first bill from what i understand.and they didnt activate it at the store this time around. you hook it up to itunes and that activates it. i guess thats what made the line go faster this time around.[Edited on July 11, 2008 at 11:15 AM. 7/11/2008 11:14:38 AM
and what does that cost
7/11/2008 11:14:40 AM
