Ouch.

I'm glad most of my stops hit yesterday. Right now I'm watching PJC. It's going to continue to plummet for awhile yet, but then it'll be a good time to buy.

bought Staples today (SPLS; Motley Fool pick) and Schlumberger (SLB; took an 11% beating today, so I jumped in).both pretty much impulse buys, which i never really do with stocks (or anything else, really). I feel ok about SPLS...the Fool guys know more than I do and I'm sure they researched the hell out of it. I just wanted to jump in on today's slide, and I was kinda busy this afternoon and didn't have time to do even a day's worth of reading up on the companies. hopefully this won't bite me in the ass.[Edited on October 19, 2007 at 8:14 PM. Reason : SPLS was also down 2.5% today]

Anyone else having issues with Firefox and the Scottrade website? It occasionally kills Firefox when I hit refresh or if I click on something. Slightly annoying...

GOOG is up, CROX is down, XOM is way down.Perhaps this is a good opportunity to buy some CROX.
10/22/2007 11:52:10 AM
Should have bought some GRMN when it was at that low point a few days ago...

Can someone tell me what happened to Gateway? Last I heard Acer was attempting to purchase GTW but now I cannot find anything on GTW. Did the trading symbol change due to this purchase?[Edited on October 22, 2007 at 7:33 PM. Reason : typo]
10/22/2007 7:32:41 PM
yeah, acer bought them. how could you not find anything on that?http://www.businessweek.com/globalbiz/content/aug2007/gb20070827_278512.htmFTA, "Acer had been rumored to be looking at Packard Bell, too"wtf, packard bell? I didn't know they were still around. I had a packard bell back in like 1989.
10/22/2007 8:50:42 PM
Interesting, I thought Packard Bell became HP like 10 years ago! Thanks for your response, though.

10/22/2007 10:42:13 PM

10/23/2007 8:12:57 AM
good day for me so farMICC up 16%ANW up 4%
10/23/2007 11:21:21 AM
MICC up 21.5% and still climbing.
10/23/2007 12:24:02 PM
FYI TRID reports earnings on thursday.I'm thinking seriously about buying more before then.
10/23/2007 1:43:31 PM
i haven't had time to evaluate anything recently, so i may just buy a little MICC on faith in Bobby & Motley-Caps.CROX scares me. i would rather buy UA.i am terrible at timing earnings (except for BIDU), so i'm staying out of TRID for now.
10/23/2007 1:53:36 PM
Yay GOOG -- up $25/share.
10/23/2007 4:49:00 PM
IBN is the real deal long term. i got in a few months back and recently got my dad in it too.didn't buy MICC yet... bought ASIA on seeing unusual volume instead.might get VMW ahead of earnings.
10/24/2007 10:18:58 AM
sold my EFA position and bought more TRID -- 188 shares @ 13.15
10/24/2007 10:31:57 AM
Ouch. What's going on today?
10/24/2007 11:48:11 AM
credit crunch and existing home sales down 8 percent, lowest in 8 years
10/24/2007 11:58:52 AM
Riverbed may be a good buy now ... down 27% today, probably an overreaction. I think you can get a good 10-15% of that back. Its also a potential takeover target for cisco/juniper type players(especially at these lower prices).
10/24/2007 2:13:11 PM
wtf is riverbed
10/24/2007 2:15:13 PM
RVBD
10/24/2007 3:59:15 PM
TRID dropped pretty low just prior to earnings...Only 2 possible scenarios:1. bad news got leaked2. Someone is pushing the price down to buy it back hardfingers = crossedasshole = puckered reamed[Edited on October 25, 2007 at 4:48 PM. Reason : reamed]
10/25/2007 4:24:57 PM
i hope you aren't still heavy into TRID

General question regarding taxing (My friend asked me so I thought of posting it on here).Example:Person bought stocks worth a $1000 and then it went up and he sold them all for $1500. So he "realized" the profit made...He used that same $1500 to purchase more stock, but then the value went down to $400 (so there was a $1100 loss), what happens as far as taxes are concerned? He is left with only $400 so does he still have to pay taxes for the original $1500 he sold a week prior to that loss?Thoughts, anyone?[Edited on October 26, 2007 at 10:12 AM. Reason : typo]
10/26/2007 10:12:24 AM
I'm pretty sure losses can offset gains for the calendar year. So no he wouldn't have to pay.
10/26/2007 10:21:55 AM
I think you can right off up to like $3,000 per year, so if you're down for the entire year, you can write off up to 3K of your losses, as I hope it wouldn't be more than 3 esp this year
10/26/2007 10:59:25 AM
think TRID will "dead cat bounce"?Wish I had some cash available.
10/26/2007 11:04:19 AM
if you're net negative, not only do you avoid taxes, but you can carry forward losses to offset gains next year.got SOHU a couple of days ago. looks real ahead of next week's earnings.alsohttp://www.fool.com/investing/international/2007/10/19/get-out-of-china-while-you-still-can.aspx[Edited on October 26, 2007 at 12:48 PM. i put more in latin american stocks then in china, and i think ive faired out pretty well.I might buy some stuff in Whole foods and other organic grocery stores. I havent made a definate move yet, but i know i have to take some out of ISC motorsports and my aggressive growth mutual fund and select computers and make a move.
10/26/2007 9:07:21 PM
I know I will prob eat my words, but I'm happy with my 23.24% portfolio gain this year so far.
10/27/2007 10:00:56 PM
There are so many conflicting points of view...To invest in TRID or not to invest?
10/29/2007 10:27:32 AM
^ remember to remember the difference between speculating and investing. buying TRID in hopes of a sharp bounceback is speculative. if you're going to try and catch a falling knife, make sure you do it with beer money and not rent money. there is so much other stuff out there that's working -- shit even MSFT looks like a real thing again -- you should spend very little mental bandwith and money on TRID.in other news: they go out and get the biggest customer known to mankind, the US military:http://www.byteandswitch.com/document.asp?doc_id=137546&WT.svl=wire1_1[Edited on October 29, 2007 at 11:56 AM.
