Once again got screwed from the Best Buy in Garner. Zero. Again. What the hell. Made a dash to Target but was about ten peeps short. I hate Best Buy.

Any chance that there will be another shipment before Christmas? I hope I have at least one more shot to pull this off.

Looks like Jan. 15 won't be as nice as I thought

Warioware and Wii Play were both scheduled out that day but Wii Play has been pushed back to Feb. 12

^^ if you have a gamecube controller, you shouldn't need it. it's only for the classic games you buy in the wii store.

^^^all you really need is the console and an extra controller to get started. Wii sports is probably enough to keep you busy for a while. The only game that requires using the nunchuck in Wii sports is boxing, so for starters I would just get the console and an extra remote. You could get component cables if you want but you don't really need them. But you will want a classic controller or a game cube controller to make the virtual console games playable. Probably two classic controllers if you want to play two player VC games. Also you will need to send your Wii a Wifi signal to get online so if you don't have a wireless router you will want to look into that.

I'd give you a personal review, but my copy is in transit I'm looking forward to it, though - seems to be one of those games for someone who appreciates the more quirky/niche games (trauma center, phoenix wright, etc.). Since you're able make and trade maps, it should pretty much have unlimited replayability.

Anybody have anything weird go on with their Wii recently? Yesterday, the system just decided to start glowing blue through the disk drive. Turning the system on, updating the the weather channel, and turning it off stopped it from doing that though.

It was just strange being in a room with no lights on while watching a movie. All of a sudden the neon blue start glowing under the TV .

No friggin way that's happening. Joystiq.com offers up some reasoning:

Quote :
"There's been a surprising amount of chatter recently about some sort of "Christmas surprise" coming out of Nintendo on Monday, Dec. 25. The source of all this speculation, as far as we can figure it, is a Nov. 30 post on RumorReporter.com that coyly suggests "you might want to keep an eye on your Wii's WiiConnect24 service leading up to this Christmas. Nintendo's sending a nifty gift... a surprise."

The only cited source for this information? "A friend of mine from Germany, who works for a very legitimate gaming production and publication." And really, if you can't trust some guy's unnamed German friend who works for an unnamed "legitimate" gaming company, who can you trust?

The extreme sketchiness of this tip hasn't stopped the 'net from rampant speculation on what the big surprise might be. The current leading contender seems to be free Virtual Console games. As GamersReports notes, a little Firefox hacking can turn up Wii Shop pages for upcoming games Super Mario Bros., ToeJam & Earl and R-Type that list the price as "0 points / Free." The report is careful to note this as a rumor, but still holds out hope for "a real Christmas miracle, though."

We don't buy it. As noted on the original hacking guide on Following Revolution, "any unreleased game says free for now, as it's just a placeholder for price" which will be set later. Some might say that the "free" message where the "download" button usually appears proves that the games are indeed going to be offered gratis, but it would be a relatively simple process for Nintendo to set that message as the default for any page with an unset price. At best, this proves that the virtual console has the functionality to offer products for free -- something we've long known was planned for the system's Opera browser.

But the greatest argument against this Christmas surprise is that it's bad business. Giving away Super Mario Bros., a title that is likely to be one of the Virtual Console's biggest sellers, is not a smart move for a company that obviously values profits. The positive PR for the move likely wouldn't offset the hundreds of thousands of dollars lost to the free downloads.

We suppose we could be wrong here, and that some huge surprise could show up on our systems come Christmas morning. Just don't get your hopes up, is all."

Giving away Super Mario Bros., Toejam & Earl, and R-Type, when Nintendo still charges for shit like Tennis, Mario Bros., and Donkey Kong? Keep dreaming.

Why not? Why not give away something that costs you nothing? Why not give away some of your best product with hopes people come back for more?

Sounds like a plan, to me.

hahaha. that's funny about the "blue light glowing"

mine did the same thing one day... i was like, WTF is going on. then i figured it out. nice touch i think.

they should offer free games every once in a while. that would be awesome. i hope they offer some free during christmas.

^^^^Those games have been confirmed to be on the nintendo servers already. you can change your browser type and download the files to your pc. you just can't do anything with the encrypted files when you download them. And of course that doesn't mean they're free. But Nintendo did promise something for Christmas. It has to be something, right?

^^^Given that Wiis are flying off the shelves as fast as Nintendo can get them out there, there's no need for the extra hype. I thought Nintendo might give away some VC games, but not really popular ones. It wouldn't be the craziest thing that's ever happened, but it doesn't make a lot of sense IMO.

reggie did say to expect a gift or surprise for xmas in an interview. I think it was one of the mtv ones.
there's no way in hell they'd give out all three of those games. maybe just smb or your pick of one of the 3, but even that seems pretty unlikely

I could see them giving away 1 free game of your choice (probably the $5 kind). This would serve to give a gift while introducing the VC concept, boosting sales in that area in the long run.
