In almost every case, the red card there was warranted but….

That is not how they have been making these calls throughout this tournament. Just look at Messi’s non-carded offense in that first game. It was even slightly more egregious because he wasn’t coming down out of the air with nowhere to land.

Refs make bad calls, they’re human, but the bad calls need to be consistent. And for this game, they were not.

Picture I took at the England vs. Congo game yesterday! Bucket list item checked off!

The red card vs. Balogun in the USA game was so inconsistent with other calls in the game. Golden boy cash cow Messi literally got away with a worse "tackle" in the Argentina opening game and didn't even get a foul. I still think USA will win against Belgium, but having USA's #1 goalscorer for the tournament suspended for the game will hurt. Should have been a yellow at most.

Why is there so much flopping and lying on the ground fake crying in professional soccer? Pretty unwatchable stuff, it’s like watching a LeFlop highlight reel for 90 minutes but instead of also seeing a bunch of dunks and points scored it’s just grown men pretend crying the whole time

It definitely makes it nearly unwatchable! I turned the game on last night because there was nothing else on tv and I thought, "Why not cheer for the USA in the round of 32?"
Sure enough, every little contact made, one player would writhe around on the ground as if he was just hit by a 12 gauge slug.
Tarik Muharemovic's near ankle sprain and the B&H guy that fell into the US player's knee were the only incidents that looked painful.
And one more thing! The jersey pulling on breakaway chances is bullshit. Did you expect to get away with that in front of 100,000 people? Maybe some people do and that's why they keep doing it.

I've seen better sportsmanship in little league.
