What has changed with Kap?

Has he always been getting workouts like this?

He hasn’t gotten any workouts for teams. Nothing has really changed. That’s what’s so bizarre.

Also, he’s a free agent. They don’t have to schedule a special workout session for teams to view him. Any team can bring him in for a workout at anytime. They just chose not to.

It’s almost as if there was some collective league wide effort to not sign Kaep or give him workouts because now there’s like 11 teams lined up to watch him workout since the NFL has given their blessing for the workouts

This game is absolutely dreadful. Rudolph is good at tackling the person that intercepts him lol

If twitter is any indication, seems AT LEAST rest of the year. If he is suspended for games next season, that is BS, imo. And this talk of “he could be charged with assault with a deadly weapon” is dumb too, imo.

I'd say that the odds of him being blacklisted are pretty high. All of this over a protest that people have been doing since the Vietnam War. Unreal.

Yeah, they assault people with their helmets nearly every damn play.

It wouldn't be the first athlete to get charged with attacking someone during a game. Todd Bertuzzi high-sticked in dude in a game and was charged with assault and was found guilty in court.

I don't think Rudolph would press charges but he definitely could. Not sure he could really win but it was pretty shitty of Myles Garrett considering Rudolph literally just had a concussion a few weeks ago and hitting a dude in the head with a helmet could definitely have done some serious damage.

You can't really compare this to the Bertuzzi thing. For one, Rudolph was an instigator in this (Rudolph grabs Garrett's helmet and kicks him before Garrett ripped his helmet off), while Steve Moore was sucker punched from behind because he refused to fight Bertuzzi.

Also, Bertuzzi wasn't charged because he high sticked someone. He straight up punched a guy in the head from behind during live play. Then he fell on top of him and broke his neck, this ending his career.

Now Marty McSorely hit Donald Brashear in the head with a stick and was charged with assault, but again it was a blindside hit that was not immediately preceded by provocation from the victim. I think that's the big difference between these two hockey incidents and what happened last night.

In conclusion, Todd Bertuzzi/Marty McSorely are more of a Steve Smith than a Myles Garrett

PS I think Garrett should get a 3-4 game suspension, Pouncey should get at least 2 and Rudolph should get 1. There is precedent for a 3 game suspension for ripping a guys helmet off and hitting him in the head with it - see Antonio Smith vs Richie Incognito. Smith got 3 games, 2 of which were preseason games.

3-4 seems really light to me. Especially with all the extra concern given to head injuries in today’s game. The Incognito thing was 2013, I think. I feel like the general sentiment around head injuries has changed a lot in those years. It’s hard to compare though because obviously the NFL has newer rules around hits to the head and stuff but that’s all as it relates to tackling and football plays - not fighting. So maybe the head injury stuff doesn’t play a role here.

Pouncey’s situation will be interested because I think you could fairly argue that if Pouncey hadn’t reacted like he did, who knows what else Garrett might’ve done. I mean, Pouncey will probably get a suspension...but he was also defending his teammate from potentially being hospitalized by Garrett.

Albert Haynesworth got 6 Games for stomping on Andre Gurode. That is the baseline here, a minimum of 6 games. This also isn't Garrett's first incident this season so he will be a repeat offender.

I think Pouncey will get 1-2 games for throwing punches. Rudolph may get suspended a game but I think he only gets fined.

I think the fines from this game will be some of the highest in league history because there were lots of hard hits and multiple concussed players in this game.

Garrett was already being held on the ground when Pouncey was kicking him in the head.

And again, I think the fact that Rudolph instigated this will play a role in the suspensions.

No, I think the baseline is the suspension on the play that was very similar that I already mentioned.

Suspensions have been handed down so this seems moot at this point. But this take seems really silly. Rudolph started it so they’ll go easy on Garrett for ripping off a dudes a helmet and then using it to hit him in the head? When you do something that violent and that crazy, it doesn’t matter who started it.

League suspensions are completely arbitrary. In context it really looks like it got out of control because Mason Rudolph kept trying to get at Everett after Everett was already being held back and was backing away. Ignoring this context is stupid but it happens all the time.

I never said they should go easy on Garrett. There was a precedent of a 3 game suspension for this exact act. The NFL decided to go way beyond that in this case, yet did nothing to the guy who instigated the fight. I think Rudolph should be punished in addition to Garrett's punishment, not use his actions to lessen Garrett's penalty.

I keep seeing this and dont understand where this comes from...

He had clearly released the ball, Garrett wraps him, takes him down, and continues to bear hug him on the ground and wrestling pins him.

I'm sure most every QB would try to push Garrett off the same way, that in itself should have been a Unsportsmanlike on Garrett.

I just dont see where or how Rudolph "initiated".

Again, how is pushing someone off thats bear hugging you after they already have hit you initiating?

The kick came when Garrett had him by the facemask.

Would you like to see the video again?

notice the hit and twist and hold motion from Garrett

Another view, notice Garretts Locked hands even after initial contact.

^^you need to rewatch the footage, because that's not what happened at all. Garrett hit Rudolph late, and he continued to pin Rudolph to the ground while Rudolph was trying to push him off to get up. Two Steelers Olineman try to pull Garrett off of Rudolph, but Garrett drags Rudolph along the ground by his facemask until the helmet twisted off of his head. I'm not sure if Rudolph was really chasing after Garrett to retaliate or to retrieve his helmet, but then Garrett took it to a completely different level by clubbing him with the helmet. To top it all off, Ogunjobi comes in to blindside Rudolph immediately afterwards.

I hope Goodell keeps Garrett Suspended for a few games next year as well. If they're handing out 10 game suspensions for violence off-field, then they ought to be doing the same for assault committed on primetime national television.

There also needs to be some sort of punishment for the officiating crew, because they did nothing to keep this game inline. The helmet-to-helmet hit on Juju went uncalled, and New York had to call in the ejection after the Diontae Johnson hit because the refs on the field wouldn't do it.

Unfortunately, the NFL will likely take the stance of flexing the rematch in two weeks to the Sunday night primetime slot for the ratings.

A "kick" more like leverage to get Garrett away from him.

The locked hands of Garrett say it all.

The precedent Justin is talking about was 6 years ago. I think a lot has changed as far as player safety and concern (or at least the NFL feigning concern) for head injuries. I don’t find it particularly outrageous that the NFL didn’t follow that “precedent”.

Think it's fair to say that Garrett *ahem* extended the "play" much longer than he should have, and if Rudolph did a little pushing/shoving to try and create some distance or w/e then that is understandable. Where in the video above is there anything egregious by him?

Rudolph initiated this by dropping back to pass instead of handing the ball off. Garrett would have no reason to hit him late if he had just handed it to Chubb after the snap!
