i'm doing a triathlon sunday. learned my lesson with the snow-out last year. i've been to that spring race twice and both times it was postponed until monday and i froze.
3/18/2019 7:31:35 PM
^the 5 day forecast has sunday 65F and no rain! i was so mad last year when they postponed the race. roads were fine there was just no parking.
3/19/2019 6:12:35 AM
I had fun at Martinsville. Probably not the best race on TV tho. The higher down force definitely didn't help. Made it more one groove

2020 schedule being released at 4pm today in a press conference.Hinted moves:-Firecracker 400/4th of July weekend race at Daytona moving out of that weekend, maybe to be the "regular season finale" and 4th of July weekend becomes Brickyard. As a resident now of Fort Wayne and what the summers have been like around then, I think this is half-intended to kill the race. They just moved it from early August to late September just last year with the rationale for the change being "get it out of 90-degree heat". That's also only going to be a 6 weekend gap to the Indy 500. -Phoenix new season finale. Homestead rumored to be something like 6th race of the season. I'm a bit whatever about Phoenix, but Homestead the only thing really going for that track is it's the season finale. Is ISC giving up on it.-Reportedly they're going to have breaks to not compete against the Olympics. This is probably an NBC request, so I imagine it's just summer and not winter when Fox has the series in the year's early months. Still, where are they going to move those 3 races in those weekends every 4 years?[Edited on March 26, 2019 at 12:41 PM. Reason : /]
3/26/2019 12:40:54 PM
Well they will probably dump the Easter weekend break, may run a Saturday night race in that spot. Not sure how Olympics are going to work since they're in Tokyo, if the marquee events are at night those events would either be tape delayed or would air in the morning live. Homestead should be scrapped if they aren't going to run last race there. I would flip Phoenix and Daytona. Have Daytona be the first and final race.
3/26/2019 2:02:41 PM
Daytona to crown the champion? You crazy.

Atlanta moved back to race 5. West coast swing starts immediately. Homestead to race 6. Phoenix to season finale.Indianapolis and Daytona switch weekends, so NASCAR's switch moving the Brickyard 400 to last week in September lasts all of 2 years. The Brickyard 400 change makes no sense compared to what they said when they did the change a couple years ago. And yes, the final "regular season" race is Daytona.Bristol night race is now the 3rd "playoff" race. The 2 Pocono races will be held as a doubleheader in a single weekend. (What do they do if there's rain?)They've moved the 1st Michigan race to the weekend after Belle Isle. I wonder if Roger Penske is a bit angry.[Edited on March 26, 2019 at 5:45 PM. Reason : ]

Best part of 2020 may 9th Martinsville under the lights Glad they kept cluster fuck group qualifying. I'll be watching that over the tar hole basketball game no doubt
3/29/2019 5:07:55 PM
^That is great to hear. A few years ago they installed the lights and had a day race that started late on a Sunday afternoon. The Fox announcers made a big deal out of how the last part of the race was under the light because of all the cautions. If they wanted a night race back then then they should have had one.
3/29/2019 6:16:57 PM
Watching my recording of the Daytona TT (flat track dirt bikes) and Allmendinger is the color commentator for NBC Sports. He's apparently a huge motorcycle racing fan. They have him on NASCAR America to talk about 250 guys in Supercross (the Lites class) and he actually holds his own instead of obviously being fed a script.
3/29/2019 11:10:38 PM
What happened with cup qualifying at Texas? On Twitter it sounds like another disaster.
3/30/2019 12:50:44 AM
Clusterfuck on put road again with only Suarez willing to go solo. Multiple drivers in multiple rounds not getting their 2nd lap started in time. Pit road speeding penalties, a wreck, blocking, more "entertainment" than the race may provide.

Here is a good read on Friday's qualifying disater at Texas.https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/03/clint-bowyer-rips-nascar-for-the-series-latest-qualifying-debacleAnd in this article published before Texas qualifying the executives gave their point of view on qualifying. NASCAR is trying their hardest to turn this league into a circus freak show.https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/03/nascars-changes-to-cup-series-qualifying-explained
3/31/2019 12:17:50 PM
If they don't want to have single-car qualifying, fine. You've made the cars incredibly aero-dependent so no one wants to be the leader when all you're doing is measuring speed. It's a:Statement: "We don't want X. We're changing X to become Y."Question: "Okay, when you do Y, it creates problem Z due to change 1 you previously made. How are you going to fix problem Z bearing in mind change 1 cannot be reversed?"Rebuttal: "We don't want X."

^ Swervez went out solo all 3 rounds and got p4 making guys sitting too long look extra dumb
4/1/2019 11:38:30 AM
Why do people care if qualifying is a good show? It's fucking qualifying. It's not the race.
4/1/2019 1:22:36 PM
No one watches qualifying anyway. It's routinely on at like 3pm on a Friday on FS9 and there's never more than a few hundred people in the stands.

4/9/2019 9:34:23 PM
You can't blame the drivers or teams for the qualifying debacles. If the NFL made touchdowns worth 3 points and field goals worth 7, you wouldn't blame the teams for never seeing touchdowns again. Ridiculous.
4/10/2019 7:45:04 AM
I get what you're saying but it can be phrased differently. Auto racing since the beginning of time has always held true to the axiom of the competitors will game the shit out of everything if it gives them a small advantage to win. They'll game the competition, they'll game the rules, they'll game the pit stops, they'll game the cautions, they'll game the equipment. You're not going to change that, it's just their nature. So you fix qualifying by either changing the rules of qualifying or changing the cars so it is not so advantageous to be the car running behind.

No race this weekend, but Talladega is next weekend for Xfinity and Cup. I don't know what to do. The 4 wides are in Charlotte next weekend and the World GT Challenge America is at VIR next weekend. I'm tempted to go see a race somewhere, but it would be fun to stay home and watch Talladega and then the tape delays on TV for the others. It looks like USAC Eastern Midgets and East Coast Flathead Fords are at Wake County next Friday. It's always fun to go to special event nights. I may have to settle for that.[Edited on April 21, 2019 at 12:56 AM. Reason : .]

https://racingnews.co/2019/04/23/nascar-admits-mistakes-looks-to-return-to-roots-in-2021/NASCAR admits they've made mistakes. The question is, will they go back to a more traditional points battle, or will they continue with this stupid playoff system and other crappy rules? I feel like the rules are the biggest turn off to a lot of people. Single car qualifying worked just fine for many years.
4/23/2019 9:53:14 AM
They'll probably still go with the low HP engines in an attempt to get more OEMs in the sport. Not ideal imo.
4/23/2019 10:31:39 AM
One of the other big problems is the IROC setup. They need to actually race Mustangs, Camaros, and Supras with a FIA GT3, GT4 spec package, or something close to it. A lot of people don't like how it is no longer stock car racing like in the beginning.
4/23/2019 5:08:25 PM
there's nothing stock about a stock car, Cole
4/23/2019 8:18:45 PM
The only thing that makes sportscar racing work is BOP (Balance of Performance). Which NASCAR used to have. Every year NASCAR would have preseason testing at Daytona and there'd be accusations of sandbagging, meanwhile Darrell Waltrip would find every reporter he could and whine and cry about "those Fords have too much horsepower, NASCAR's not going to have much of a show if they don't do something." When the COT came in, all that bullshit stopped. It was the single greatest thing in favor of the COT was I no longer had to listen to Darrell Waltrip or any other Chevy-appointed stooge cry about they had no power. I think the first year of the COT Chevy won 30 of 36 races. NASCAR's response to Ford and I think Dodge at the time was "build a better motor".[Edited on April 24, 2019 at 9:21 AM. Reason : .]

Lol, typical race fan of today. Doesnt watch the race, complains about the race being boring. Twitter is full of people like you just ready to complain no matter what.
4/29/2019 9:19:21 AM
By Talladega standards, it didn't devolve into a crashfest, so that's a positive. The manufacturer-based tactics I can do without. I think it's a negative on modern-day Daytona/Talladega racing because with less guys out there racing for themselves and even the teams are subjected to the whims of the manufacturer, there's less room for alternative strategies or even a guy choosing to move out of line. Late in the race you can tell the Chevys were riding on the bottom lane and no one dared move. There are some non-wrecks I'm not sure how something big didn't happen. Stenhouse continues to drive like an idiot in these races, and Blaney especially was constantly getting sent loose and having to save by whoever was behind him.I guess though I'd give the race a thumbs up.[Edited on April 29, 2019 at 10:35 AM.
