there's nothing pathetic about selling off something that you own

it's not like the ring is greater than the experience of playing in/winning the game

I kinda think he tried to pull a fast one for that $$$ but I am prob wrong

so braxton may not be immediately eligible after all

"The 5-11, 170-pound freshman from Hargrave Military Academy had already started classes at Ohio State before he decided to leave the Big Ten program last month. Under NCAA rules, that means Beverly’s exit from Ohio State would qualify as a transfer. As an undergraduate transfer, Beverly would have to sit out the 2017-18 season before he would be eligible to play for N.C. State.

Wolfpack coach Kevin Keatts is hopeful there’s still a chance, under NCAA rules, Beverly could still play for the Wolfpack this season.

“Our compliance office is working through Braxton’s eligibility status,” Keatts wrote in a text message to the News & Observer on Monday."

I'm guessing by "sit 2" you mean he'll ride the bench his RS-FR year...which is probably a good prediction given the logjam we're about to have at guard.

extenuating circumstances in his case, they fired their coach late in the year, well he stepped down etc...most times they let it pass with a coaching change.

i mean...the NCAA hasn't actually made a ruling yet. so they could rule in his favor. this is fairly weird/unique situation. but i get it, fuck UNC.

There's been a lot of big names criticizing the NCAA for this. I don't think they'll ultimately make him sit out, they don't want to set this precedent

^But in the past they've let kids transfer without issue after coaches were fired or punishments were handed out, so I'm not sure how this one would be different.

Is that true? College players still have to sit out a year. Incoming freshman are usually ok, but most of them haven't attended summer school.

I just don't see the advantage that having some summer courses would give you on the court. Maybe practicing with the team? Getting adjusted to the school/program/system? He's going to have to readjust coming here anyway.

When we were recruiting Rawle Alkins he used to come over and practice with our guys during the summer and that was ok by the NCAA.

I still think he'll be cleared to play, but then again this is the organization that said ~8 minutes of playing time and a season-ending injury should cost Terry Henderson a year.

Oh brother. Terry Henderson didn't get another year because he chose to transfer from WVU to State. By doing so he willingly gave up one of the years on his eligibility clock. Yeah it sucks he got hurt, but those are the rules. If he'd lost two seasons to injury he'd most likely have gotten another year of eligibility, but he didn't.

there are similar cases where kids were cleared and I wasn't counting his transfer year loss.

to be perfectly fair, though, in Henderson's case I think it was a matter of him being physically able to come back and play that season and we gambled by benching him and hoping he'd get the extra year down the road

nah, if a coach gets fired and you transfer you still gotta sit a year...you can get out of your letter of intent and open your recruitment back up, but if you're enrolled in school then you gotta sit a year. again, this is a unique situation and it wouldn't be shocking for the NCAA to let him play this year for that reason.

there's no advantage. but they have to treat it like a traditional transfer since he was already taking classes. so by rule, he's a regular transfer and would sit a year (unless ruled otherwise). obviously it's not a normal situation so that's why we're trying to get him eligible this year. the transfer rule (sitting a year) is a bad rule imo anyways.

no reason to complain and gripe yet...they haven't ruled anything yet

Look at it this way: this is a lost season, anything over .500 will be gravy. He isn't a player that would make or break our season.

Obviously you weren't counting his transfer year (but the NCAA does.) The whole reason for the 5 to play 4 thing is to give an extra year for injuries. Henderson used a year to transfer. That's why he didn't get another year. It's very simple. He didn't have extenuating circumstances regarding his transfer, his case was pretty much a textbook example. He could have played 0 minutes that season and still would have been denied a 6th year.

It probably wouldn't be a bad thing for him to sit a year and still have 4 years after that. Based on his size (and athleticism) it'll probably take him a while to adjust. I doubt he'd be playing much, if any, next year anyways.

Scored 100 in Italy and had I think close to 20 steals.

Al Freeman was leading scorer with 17

T-Rank projections have us second to last in the ACC and 122 overall.

Really think we're going to much better than that.

^I appreciate the natural state fan inclination to be scared of high expectations I expect it won't be cured until we start occasionally meeting expectations again.

That said, I would take being ranked over being picked 2nd to fucking last 100 times out of 100.

Have to keep in mind we're playing our transfer guys in Italy too, so we won't have Bryce or Daniels when the season starts, but we're also playing without Yurtseven.

Glad to see Freeman had a good first game, going to need to find some go-to scoring options.
