I couldn't see Mayweather getting gased at all. I thought after a two year break he would be out of shape.

He definitely played it out.

Mayweather could have done more early onm but he wasn't going to win until Conor got fatigued so it was going to take some rounds regardless. There is a reason why the Vegas total round o/u was in the 8-9 range, not the 3-5 range.

there are plenty of reasons for him to want the fight to last longer than it should

one of them is already playing out

Fight ended up in the best case scenario for all parties. Would've been nice if Mayweather didn't turn his back for the first 4 rounds every time he got in trouble but I'm sure he would have found a way to secure himself till later rounds. Everyone got paid, no one got duped like Pacquiao so I agreed with Floyd in that respect. He felt like he owed the fans a makeup and he delivered. All the while making more Texa$ than any athlete in history.

I'm glad I didn't have to pay to watch. Non-PPV events are usually more exciting.

I was pulling for my man from the homeland, but unless he did something in the first 6 rounds most people knew it was over. I don't know dick when it comes to boxing but Conor put in some work the first 3 rounds and was slowed down a little by the Floyd tactics. I can listen to an argument that Floyd held back on purpose (he did), but no way in hell could he have put him down before 6 rounds.

So in theory Conor is gonna keep boxing right..even if he doesn't dominate?

Why MMA for peanuts when you can box for many more millions?

That's the question... how does UFC transition at this point? Would McGregor even want to come back for relative peanuts? Rousey is done. Steroids prevalent with JBJ, begging to get Lesnar back to have another big draw. I'm not as big a UFC fan as I was when it started, but I'm definitely curious how they (big investors that recently purchased included) decide to move forward with the company.

UFC will still be a thing, but why fight for a corporation when you can fight for yourself? If you have the option of course...

The problem with him going to boxing is I (and plenty of others) no longer care to see him box. The spectacle was him vs Mayweather, how a great MMA fighter would do against an all time great boxer. While I was definitely impressed by McGregor and didnt think he would look that good, I have zero interest in seeing him box again. He got so much money because of the whole spectacle of this, he won't be that kind of draw for another boxing match.

Also, the idea that Mayweather could have ended it whenever he wanted is a laughably bad take. He needed McGregor to get tired before he could do that. It was a great strategy and he executed it very well. I don't think he even thought McGregor would put up the fight he did though.

Feeling our your opponent in the early rounds + not exposing yourself to attack while letting your opponent tire out is indeed strategy.

[Edited on August 27, 2017 at 12:36 PM. Reason : Obviously Conor was trying to bait him]

I think it was a bit of a combination of both. I don't think Floyd had any plans to try to end it early that just isn't what he does. However, I also think he was a bit shocked and surprised by what McGregor was able to do those first 3 rounds or so he felt like he needed to play it safer just in case a lucky punch came through.

Dunno about that...your predictions concerning McGregor have fell pretty flat.

he did toy around with him and beat him when he wanted to beat him

Mayweather dictated the fight...

and comparing a 40 year old defensive boxer past his prime to a boxer in his prime who is a knockout specialist isn't an argument you wanna try and make

^^ I must have missed the round where Mayweather did the following: "dance circles around McGregor and know exactly when to attack before McGregor knew what hit him"...of course unless you consider turning your back on your opponent to prevent getting beat in the head more as "dancing."

"beat him when he wanted to beat him"

Which turned out to be when the dude was gassed. Excellent strategy for sure, but hardly what you depicted.

Great goalpost moving attempt with "Mayweather dictated the fight" btw.

[Edited on August 27, 2017 at 11:53 PM. Reason : ^^ I made no such comparison. I called into question the accuracy of your predictions ITT.]

Yeah, McGregor didn't embarrass himself, but Mayweather was winning that fight by a landslide before the knockout.

It's obvious that Mayweather has slowed down a bunch in the last 2 years though. Hopefully he'll save enough money to pay his taxes so he won't end up on celebrity boxing in a match against Gronk.

He's already spent 100's of millions of his earnings. Can't imagine he's going to slow down now that his fight earnings might be drying up. Maybe he has actually made some wise investments...
