gm seems pretty snake bitten at the nordschleiffe. i don't think they've set an official time since c6 because they always seem to have weather issues

C&D does 60 mph in a ZR-1 in 2.2 sec, which is the fastest time they have ever done in a RWD car.

2.2 in a RWD car is super impressive. It's a few to several 1/10s of a second quicker than RWD Koeniggseggs costing several millions of dollars.

2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X: "America's Hypercar" (per GM)

America's first series production hypercar. Limited production hypercars include the Hennessey Venom F5, SSC Tuatara, and the Czinger 21C.

1,250 horsepower
973 lb-ft
AWD with a front axle motor

0-60 mph in < 2 sec
1/4 mile in < 9 sec

1.3 g (linear) when accelerating
1.9 g (linear) when decelerating

Essentially it's the ZR1's engine (with identical power and torque) augmented by a front axle motor and a trick AWD system.

I have a feeling this will demolish the AMG One's Nurburgring record, or come very close to it.

Here are it's competitors, in terms of performance:

Ferrari F80: $3.9 million
McLaren W1: $2.1 million
Aston Valkyrie: $3.5 million
Mercedes AMG One: $2.7 million

Pricing not released yet, but considering the ZR1 starts at $180k, I would guess this should come in at around $250k.

You can read about the wizardry of the front motor and the AWD system here, plus see pics:

https://www.motor1.com/news/762876/chevy-corvette-zr1x-horsepower-price-details

"The ZR1X can maintain an unholy 1.3 g’s of longitudinal acceleration throughout first and second gears, and nearly through third gear."

I don't understand why they didn't call it the Zora, as everyone has expected for, like, at least a decade.

the zr1 and zr1x don't make a lot of sense to me as track cars. they burn 2 GALLONS per min of gas at WOT. on a track like road atlanta, cota, or road america, you don't have enough gas in the tank to make it through a 20min track session. that's not enough for any race series. seems like a great time attack car but really annoying as a track day car and not at all a race car. nevermind these cars have the same size/compound tire as the z06 which will toast a set of tires in a day, while doubling the power and adding 400lbs. i wish you could get the zr1 brakes on the z06. cool party trick street car i guess?

^ well that sucks!

First ZR1 dyno test:

https://www.motor1.com/news/763824/chevrolet-corvette-zr1-dyno-video-results/

Official numbers (at the crank):
1,064 hp
828 lb-ft

Dyno (at the wheel):
1,028 hp
839 lb-ft

Reality (at the crank):
~1,180 hp
~920 lb-ft

That's assuming about a 10% loss, so the actual values could be even higher than the above estimates.

Nurburgring times fresh from the oven:

ZR1X: 06:49.275 -- 4th fastest production car
ZR1: 06:50.763 -- 7th fastest production car

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N%C3%BCrburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times#Lap_times

Surely these cars must be capable of better times, no? The cars ranked 2, 3, 5, and 6 are all in the 5xx-7xx hp range, whereas the ZR1 and ZR1X are ~1,100 - 1,300 hp.

I believe it was engineers who set the times, so it seems like we will have future attempts from professional race car drivers, which should turn out to be faster.

Those "engineers" have some extensive driving experience under their belts:

"The driver GM is claiming to be "just some guy" is a Nurburgring master, probably has more lap times than most professional drivers. He is the same guy from 10 years ago setting the Camaro lap times. He's an SCCA champ for Cadillac for many years prior. He has decades worth of Nurburgring practice for record setting specifically - let alone thousands upon thousands of track hours for dialing in vehicle dynamics on these cars."

So maybe not a PROOO driver, but by no means a slouch.

if you watch the in car video, the z06 and zr1 both leave a lot on the table. i'd bet its because the car has no brake feel (pedal isnt connected to the actual brakes) and its really hard to be confident to the limit. makes the viper acr time of 7:03 from 15 years ago with 15 year old tire tech and only 600hp, that much more impressive
