I have it hooked up to my Almond+ router no probs.

5/2/2017 10:10:47 AM
so mostly success, i got it working as a wireless access point by resetting everything and undoing their changesthe only problem is that now when i try to get into the router settings it says "Your computer and your wireless router are no a different subnet mask. Ensure that the IP address of both your computer and your wireless router are on the same subnet mask."Can anyone explain what this means? Please assume I'm a moronEDIT:I can still access the router from the asus app on my phone, so it's all setup how i want now[Edited on May 2, 2017 at 4:18 PM. Reason : .]

is your computer plugged into the asus router or the gateway router?
5/2/2017 6:07:01 PM
Gateway router (att router). Its just a single 2.4ghz tv I need to get internet too

I went back to ATT last month, and got the 300Meg for $50. I have two onhubs with one acting as a mesh. Great internet so far.The tech said I was the first person he knows that left ATT and came back. I said...well the speed is nice, but the price is cheaper than charter right now for more speed.Knock on wood, there hasn't been an outage lately.
5/6/2017 11:00:18 AM
I'm getting gigabit and DTV installed on Tuesday, fingers crossed it's reliableI checked this morning and finally the monthly price is less than what I've been paying for time warner
5/6/2017 11:23:00 AM
Why DTV instead uVerse?
5/7/2017 9:51:30 AM
heard they were killing off uverse
5/7/2017 2:36:54 PM
could see that...would suck from a competition standpoint tho

Who was it that can find out who's digging where? They're digging on Whitaker Mill now and I'm curious if it's AT&T or Google. I'm guessing AT&T but they've been in my neighborhood awhile already.
5/9/2017 6:42:25 PM
3rd internet outage so far since installing
5/10/2017 7:03:41 AM
So, it looks like the fiber being installed on Whitaker Mill is by Spirit Communications[1]. Anyone heard anything about them? Are they laying fiber for someone else?[1] - http://www.spiritcom.com/assets/user/news/Press_Release._Spirit_Communications_and_Major_Wireless_Carrier_expand__._._._.pdf

what methods are people using to track their traffic? While troubleshooting today I noticed they said I used 35.17GB of traffic, including uploading 12.8GB in 1 day. There is no way this is accurate, I did not upload anything substantial that should account for that much upload usage.
5/10/2017 10:09:05 AM
Isn't ATT known for having traffic meters that are full of shit? I swear that I remember reading something about them sending out loads of telemetry plus all the TV traffic and counting it all against your data cap.If you have a router worth anything between your devices and the modem you should be able to use it to monitor your traffic.
5/10/2017 12:21:54 PM
i don't have TV, but there is no way i used 12GB upload yesterday. I need to check sonarr/couchpotato to confirm but i'm dubious of the downloading amount too. I guess I could try to also run the ethernet through the access point, then I would only have 5Ghz direct through the AT&T modem/router which would at least rule out the desktop computer. I'd run everything through the access point but I couldn't disable the 5ghz wifi and I didn't want to crowd anything running an unnecessary wifi network[Edited on May 10, 2017 at 1:03 PM. Reason : although i guess i could just put it on low power and choose channels far away from each other]
5/10/2017 1:03:13 PM
So I noticed I was using 50gb of transfer a day. Found out, it was my roku and appletv, that once I turned off my TV they were still streaming. So I have to put them to sleep or turn off whatever app I was in.Something to consider. I went from using 1.4TB to less than 600gb a month.
5/11/2017 9:33:44 AM
hmm, good thought, i'll check the fire tvi actually found the problem though; i forgot i had to setup my dropcam/nest cameras again for the new network and did not have the schedule correct and they were set to 1080, so it was using a lot more than normal
5/11/2017 10:04:46 AM
Anyone heard of any deals lately?
8/8/2017 9:49:42 AM
Spectrum 100 + Sling &/or Netflix
8/8/2017 1:08:43 PM
Were you a TWC customer prior? I have not seen great pricing/options. I'm holding onto my 300mbps for $60 for as long as I can, until they force me to pay more for less.
8/15/2017 10:11:24 AM
I was paying $80/month for 200/20 with TWC, and then Spectrum. I called and told them AT&T installed fiber in my neighborhood. They told me the best they could do was $80/month for 100/10 or $130/month for 300/20 (i.e. substantially worse rates than they were already charging me).I laughed at them and then switched to gigapower for $80/month.
9/7/2017 10:42:57 AM
Yeah, Spectrum is hard line with just jacking prices. Doesn't make sense in this current marketplace w/ AT&T fiber being so many places. Fuck em.
9/11/2017 1:18:07 PM
spectrum has been going door to door in my neighborhood hardcore, i think they lost pretty much everyone on my street to at&t
9/11/2017 2:08:03 PM
I finally said fuck it and got ATT again. The ordering process was as pleasant as getting a rash. The install went good though. Internet is fast as fuck and they are not charging for extra boxes anymore. I got two Ethernet boxes and two wireless. The guy ran the fiber optic converter to where my UPS is in my basement so I can keep it all up during a power outage.
9/11/2017 6:46:10 PM
does anyone know if it's possible to completely disable wifi on the modem? I only see options to disable 2.4
11/20/2017 10:30:19 AM
^ What wifi router do you use?
11/20/2017 3:03:53 PM
the at&t modem/router is the Pace 5268AC FXN
11/20/2017 3:49:04 PM
I'm assuming you use your own since you want to disable the wifi on the at&t device[Edited on November 20, 2017 at 3:55 PM. Reason : ^ i have the same one]
11/20/2017 3:54:58 PM
^ I have gigapower and there's no way to use your own, that i've found. There's some handshaking that goes on between the ATT gateway and the ONT (optical network terminal) interface, so if you plug your own router into the ONT, it doesn't work.Is there a way around this? What i've done is configured my wifi router as a bridge, only turn on the AC band on the separate router, then use the ATT gateway for the 2.4/5Ghz N network for older devices.
11/20/2017 4:52:27 PM
I'm using my own router for wifi, that's why I want to turn off the at&t wifi
11/21/2017 7:37:25 AM
as do I[Edited on November 29, 2017 at 2:09 PM. Reason : .]

Something ate my fiber optic cable
12/8/2017 6:00:01 PM
pics or it didn't happen
12/8/2017 6:43:36 PM
An aerator ate mine
12/8/2017 6:55:00 PM
the fiber optic people ate my gutter drains
12/8/2017 7:46:18 PM
I'm going to be sad when I move, as gigapower won't be at the new place.$50 for 300 up and down is pretty awesome.Only thing I hate, is AT&T sending door to door people constantly that ring the bell, and 5 seconds later leave....only to repeat this for the next 6 hours during the day. Stop interrupting my soaps.

Bought a new house that doesn’t have google fiber so my options are spectrum or att fiber. Based on the thread looks like att is the better choice? Any tips or advice when signing up and during install?
6/2/2018 3:43:21 PM
I just switched back to TWC (which now offers 400 base but you get around 450). I have not noticed any difference. There is a definitely difference in upload speed but most home users would never notice that.
6/3/2018 9:36:32 PM
They'll need to run a new fiber optic line into your house so get an idea about where you want that run before they show up. If you let the tech decide he'll do it the easiest possible way.
6/8/2018 7:36:53 PM
^^ that's a good deal, but I friggin HATE that company, no matter what they call themselves.
6/8/2018 8:42:36 PM
^^ the installer at my house said they had to run it to the same general area as other utilities (phone, power, old cable, etc...), they said it was a rule but maybe it was BS
6/11/2018 11:41:29 AM
^ all that other stuff is on the backside of my house, so the installer just ran it to my office which was close to the street.
6/11/2018 2:43:07 PM
you don't have a box outside your house where it transitions from the buried fiber to fiber inside your house?
6/11/2018 2:47:57 PM
Yeah there's a box outside and in
6/11/2018 6:04:58 PM
I have not really noticed any difference in the 400mbps on Spectrum vs 1000 ATT. I think most websites do not delivery anywhere near 1000mbps anyway. There is definitely a difference in upload speed which I might run against with my drone videos, have not tried that yet.
6/11/2018 6:09:34 PM
^^ is that box in the front or in the back near other utilities? that's what i was told needed to be placed near the other items inside they will go wherever you want if they can get to it
6/12/2018 7:47:21 AM
Fiber box is on the front of the house.
