I'm not buying Clinton's response that being a woman doesn't make her an insider, I'm curious how women reacted to that statement

What's the best way to watch the debate, if I missed it last night?
10/14/2015 8:51:48 AM
hillary's mouth is scripted exclusively to things that will garner a positive response so I'm sure it all went well.

You guys need to understand the context of the debate last night. The other four candidates were trying to win the primary, Hillary was debating for the general. Her goal was to look presidential while not saying anything that could be used against her by whomever emerges from the GOP clown car. It was also to reassure chickenshit Democrats that Biden doesn't need to enter the race. She accomplished all that with no missteps, so it's pretty fair to say she "won" the debate.
10/14/2015 11:14:44 AM
^ she does win by not losingIt's what she did in 2008, until she got a chink in her armor after engaging Chris Dodd in a policy debate. (Forget what it was, but she stumbled over herself in words trying to be all things to both sides, and next debate Wolf Blitzer completely let her off the hook with a one-word "no" answer from her.)
10/14/2015 11:31:51 AM
^^ I would agree that Hillary won too just looking at the debate. She basically made it seem like she agreed on Bernie with everything, but she was more "composed" than Bernie.I like what Bernie was saying, but he was literally shouting half the time. Bernie gave the best answer to gun control too. But the problem with Hillary is that she really is as much of an insider as you can be, she might claim to want to take on wall street like bernie, but we know she can't-- she would compromise, and they would get the better end of the deal. We know she doesn't "really" believe the military is a last resort like she says. We know the email scandal could be more devastating than she let on. As a politician and campaigner, she "won" the debate, but that doesn't make her any better of a candidate based on what we know about her.

^^Just as a thought exercise, what would taking on Wall Street look like to you? Are we talking straight legal fire and brimstone here, putting people in jail, etc....? Breaking up big institutions? Going after executive salaries? For me, it goes back to the same debate we had over the bailouts. People wanted to either let the banks sink, or make the money contingent on them taking on draconian reforms. It's just not reasonable to expect something like that out of one deal or even one administration. We're talking 30+ years of handing Wall Street all the guns, all the hostages, and the getaway vehicles to private islands. The financial sector is 9% of our GDP and most of the middle class's retirement funds are tied up in it. Realistically speaking, what silver bullet is going to kill that?As to the email "scandal", let me remind everyone how that went. When word first came out of Hillary's private server, they tried to say she was breaking the law or violating State department policy by mixing private and work email. Turns out that wasn't the case at all, so they started looking for classified data and even tried to tie into Benghazi. Now that well's completely dried up and all that's left is trying to nail her on a technicality that she didn't turn over all the emails, basically catching her in a lie. There was never any there there, as they say, it was always a political sideshow and McCarthy's comments proved it.

^ To be fair, the opening up of the world via free trade and the internet has helped a great deal in allowing people to shift money around and hide it. The Chinese for example right now are actively trying to prevent their rich from sending all their money offshore because they all think the value of the yuan is going to go down soon, and the Chinese state is by design more powerful than the American state. Their foreign reserves still plummeted over the last 4-5 months.
10/14/2015 12:16:37 PM
^^I think it could look something like:- financial transaction taxes, speculation tax, tax spoofing- fix conflict of interest in federal reserve (also, audit the federal reserve)- reinstate Glass-Steagall, strengthen Volcker rule by closing hedge fund loophole - hold individuals accountable for corporate fraud, allow executive bonuses to be taken to pay fines- establish in advance a list of banks that are "too big to fail", then break them up so they do not put economy at risketc...[Edited on October 14, 2015 at 12:57 PM. ^Its too bad we don't have "true believer" conservatives to post arguments, similar to those, seemingly off the cuff, on a regular basis anymore in TSB (the ones still hanging around really choose their battles relatively smartly). Maybe I was getting trolled back in the day, but I miss watching unfounded assumptions and STRAWMAN being ripped to shreads.

On CNN's broadcast in the middle of a 10 minute conversation about Hillary's dominant performance in the debate, they stopped to mention that bernie won their own facebook polls 86% to Hillary's 4% and immediately said that those numbers aren't important because the average age on facebook is 45 and its mostly just young people who are excited about Bernie but wouldn't actually vote for him. It was astonishing.

I know right! "Online Polls"... are you kidding me? Who uses the internet to take a poll? What a complete joke. Who, in modern day America, a democracy, uses "online polls" to "vote" and try to get an estimation.Classic Bernidiots trying to figure out favorability through sampling the largest group possible... voting? Why don't I just wipe my ass with your ballot, Bern-Tard. Talk to me when you get all of your information from the completely unbiased TimeWarner news sources that have already payed for Clinton to win.
10/16/2015 3:22:36 PM
Why was data collected by CNN if they were going to disregard it? When did they realize the data wasn't going to tell us anything?

Thank you so much for enlightening me with your vast intellect. I do often have trouble understanding how basic numbers work, because I see focus groups and online polls indicating favorability for Sanders, and I say to myself "SEE ALMOST A BILLION PEOPLE IN THE USA SUPPORT BERNIE". Man I am so dumb.People on TWW skew support for their college sports teams all the time, so how can any poll ever be considered at all? The focus groups don't matter either! They are Bernitards that are dumb as hell and have no clue what they are talking about!Talk to me when you can read the headlines from biased media outlets that are paying for Clinton to get elected, because that is way more reliable than a stupid poll.
10/16/2015 5:14:10 PM
The only polls that matter are elections. If Bernie wins New Hampshire, which right now I'd bet my money he will, it's going to change public opinion on how "electable" he is, and I think we'll see him gain a huge wave of new supporters.

wow, Hillary Clinton not having to respond to any of the BlackLivesMatter stuff is really helping her out, Sanders really needs to figure out how to connect with black voters

^That liberal billionare George Soros guy is funding the non hashtag side of "BLM" and also is donating to Clinton.Sanders will probably be interrupted several more times by another "moment of silence for a dead thug that assaulted a cop".

It is rather adorable how much voters think they actually get to decide the nominee. It's usually pretty well decided after less than 15% of the states have even had a primary or caucus. Then with the democrats they have about 20% of their actual delegates who are not beholden to the voters at all.We get to vote in the general election, but the primaries are really controlled by the parties. Sanders would have to have an absolute landslide to have any shot at actually getting the nomination.I'm not sure how or why the Biden thing is going to work. He wouldn't be coming in if the DNC didn't have serious concerns about Clinton's viability in the general election. One also has to think this will also give the media a reason to give Sanders even less media coverage. Couple that with the historically low number of debates and you can see just how much the Dems are trying to minimize his impact and keep Hilary from having to run more left. There are two other reasons for Biden to enter. Either there is a looming shitstorm for Hilary coming down the pike that they know about, or Obama really dislikes the Clintons enough that this is a spite move designed to keep them out of the whitehouse.

10/28/2015 4:56:57 PM
Just about 3 months out from the first primary.Hillary took a huge leap in Iowa polling. 2 weeks ago she was tied with Bernie, last week was up 5, and is now showing as up 20. I think that is a result of Biden dropping out and all the attention she's gotten from the hearings. It may level out again but we'll see.Bernie still up in New Hampshire and I can't imagine he'd lose there unless some huge thing happens.Nevada and SC both firmly Hillary right now, but Bernie is trending in the right direction. Super Tuesday will be chaos.
10/28/2015 6:51:07 PM
Again, it doesn't matter. Bernie will not get the nomination unless he can win about 70% of the states. The democratic party controls roughly 20% of the nominating delegates and they will not allow anyone other than an establishment party member to get the nomination.
