everybody has aids dies

^ On that note, the "everybody is going to die" montage was a bit over the top. I mean, they were on a military base with aircraft all over the place, so I am sure that Diego and Gin could have found a ship to fly away on.
12/22/2016 12:57:55 PM
I think the most interesting and important aspect of the movie lore-wise that I haven't really heard anybody talking about is the fact that the film finally confirms that yes, storm troopers are indeed worse shots than an actual blind person
12/22/2016 1:58:05 PM
^^ they could have flown away, yes. But they couldn't have left the planet. The gate is the only place to get in or out, and it was closed.

Any X wings left could have flown away too.

^^^ Shield went down after those destroyers plowed into the aperture, taking out the shield, allowing the transmission to begin with.
12/23/2016 1:42:17 AM
im not sure the shield went fully down. You never see the visual shield go away. It might have just been weakened enough for the data to get through, or a small opening was created

Hmm, You actually see the blue sphere fade or go away in one scene? Not there one scene, but gone in another? I can't recall if it's there when you see Vaders boarding party in space.
12/23/2016 8:21:24 PM
I bet those Yavin 4 watchtowers are kinda scary to be in.
12/23/2016 8:56:57 PM
Finally saw it. I really enjoyed it, but I need to see it again. I enjoyed all of the cameos that I was able to catch, but probably missed more than I saw. I think my favorite part was the battle around the shield gate. I don't know if it is advances in technology or what, but the CGI battles in TFA and Rogue One are so much more watchable than anything in 1-3. And the hammerhead - really shows how a small force with few resources can make do. One thing that I thought was kind of odd, only because I do DR for a living, was the fact that the empire, with its' limitless resources, still used a tape medium as a means of data storage. Tape can be unreliable and has a finite life span. I assume however, that since they were able to get a second death star up and running so quickly, that they had real-time replication to a DR site somewhere else in the empire. And for the argument regarding the length of time between this movie and A New Hope - remember that the empire disabled the rebels' flagship, and we see the Tantive IV leaving that flagship while Vader watched. It would have taken him at least 10 minutes to leave that ship and get back on a destroyer, and in 10 minutes, you could probably light speed anywhere in the galaxy.

So I mentioned to my family I had recently seen this movie and all of their reactions were along the lines of "I heard it got terrible reviews" & "Too bad it sucked, eh?" I thought it was fantastic so I have to assume they really don't like Star Wars to begin with.
12/24/2016 9:54:40 AM
I'm sorry you have to deal with a family like that
12/24/2016 9:56:44 AM
Appreciate it, brother. May The Force be with you.

12/24/2016 10:36:53 AM
You don't think massive ships like that are bulkhead doors around compartments for that reason?
12/24/2016 10:43:38 AM
No, I think giant ships are one big open tube basically.
12/25/2016 11:56:18 AM
you guys are asking a lot out of doors from an impact like that. Plus, how exactly is the ship supposed to function properly when about half of it is in a cold vacuum?
12/25/2016 1:57:28 PM
It seemed like it functioned exactly how they wanted it to, by crashing into the shield/shield generating dealie. I don't think anyone needed to be alive to keep it crashing and the ship no longer needed to operate as gravity was doing all the work at that point.
12/25/2016 2:31:33 PM
This is just me thinking out loud, but isn't the best comparison to space combat actually submarine combat? Since the atmospheric conditions in both examples are so drastically different within then hull of the ship, any breach in said hull leads to a ripple effect that makes the situation exponentially more dangerous. Plus, there was also the annoying fact that the X-wings were moving in space like they would within earth's stratosphere. Not trying to troll people here, just thinking about how realistic these battle scenes were.[Edited on December 26, 2016 at 11:10 AM. Reason : second ]
12/26/2016 10:57:49 AM
Except when a submarine gets a hole in it, it sinks.
12/26/2016 11:17:42 AM
Star Wars was never supposed to be hard sci-fi, it's fantasy.
12/26/2016 11:33:02 AM
We have no way of knowing the technological specifications of any of the spacecraft we see in the Star Wars universe. We can't apply our knowledge of technology to whatever they are using.
12/26/2016 11:57:21 AM

12/26/2016 12:20:55 PM
This is a universe in which every living cell has magical entities living in them which allow people to have supernatural powers. But sure, let's bitch about the physics of dogfighting in orbit around a planet.
12/26/2016 1:02:39 PM
Why not? Math is math and that is universal. Whether or not some people have taped into to a dimension that allows them to have heightened senses and wisdom does not mean that we can ignore basic physics, especially when the majority of people in this universe consider the Force to be a religion or a myth. If they were taping into the force while designing a modern day Stuka, then the force consequently would not be so maligned by the public eye.
12/26/2016 1:14:24 PM
MIDI-CHLORIANS
12/26/2016 1:16:36 PM
Again, the connection with the Force would apply if somebody did something unbelievable, hence the connection and comparisons between the force and religion. In this case, we are talking about designing entire attack and flight patterns that are expected to function properly, so, I'm not buying it.
12/26/2016 1:38:56 PM
midi-chlorians are universal. the force is a scientific fact (in the star wars universe), not a religion. you can't test someones blood to check their religion level.
12/26/2016 3:51:54 PM
We don't talk about midichlorians
12/26/2016 4:20:25 PM
they are the worst thing from the prequels
12/26/2016 4:30:37 PM
But they are part of the story. You can't just pretend they don't exist. Just like I can't pretend ewoks don't exist.People in the star wars universe who don't believe in force are the equivalent of anti-vaxxers.

jesus christ nerds, no one fucking caressaw this again today and its still awesome and still better than force awakens[Edited on December 26, 2016 at 6:44 PM. Reason : jesus fucking christ]
12/26/2016 6:43:51 PM
It is better than force awakening. I read up that the guy pitched this film to the upper heads only did it because he already read the future plans for the Star Wars movies and he thought they sucked. Sarcastic robot was great. I like all the covert and espionage elements to it. The main girl should have been mad as hell at the rebellion alliance tho they killed her father, didn't take what she had to say at the council , and Forrest Whitaker left alone. All Vader scenes were good and they weren't overdone. I thought it was funny that the same man getting chocked out but Vader was the same dude that gets chocked by Bane in Dark knight rises in a similar scene. The whole conflict matters very well to the conflict in Syria right now And what's the recruiting like for a storm trooper? Why would you sign up for that?
12/26/2016 6:58:52 PM
Empire, New Hope, Rogue One, Awakens, Jedi, 3, 2,1

It was shown in TFA that they are "recruited" as young children that are about 6 years old.
12/27/2016 4:11:01 AM
^ first order is different from the empire. The empire stormtroopers were volunteers. It was just joining the military, on a galactic scale. Not every planet hated the empire. Remember Luke wanted to enroll at the imperial pilot academy in A New Hope
12/27/2016 10:45:10 AM
I give this movie 2.5/4 stars primarily because of the flat characters and the fact that there's not a whole lot of room /direction for the story to go as it races towards the beginning of ANH.I also found Grand Moff Tarkin's CGI to be super stuck in the uncanny valley... it was creepy and not very human looking. I guess that's not a widely held opinion though.
12/27/2016 11:07:31 AM
He reminded me of the CGI zombies in I am legend
12/27/2016 11:24:26 AM
I think he was overused. I think a few lines of dialogue would have been enough of a throwback and a treat for the fans, but he just had too much screen time. Still though, when you think about the fact that in episodes II and III not one single clone trooper was an actual person, I'm ok with what they did with Tarkin.
12/27/2016 11:39:14 AM
The movie was about the Death Star and Tarkin was the commander of the Death Star. He needed more than just a few lines.
12/27/2016 2:42:17 PM
^ they could have been more crafty with his usage instead of doing full on close ups. That will always make CGI stick out. I don't know why they just didn't shift between his reflexions in glass (which looked great) and using him in holograms.[Edited on December 27, 2016 at 3:16 PM. Reason : a]
12/27/2016 3:15:58 PM
Yea, could also have used shots from farther away to try to get around it. But I imagine the CG team was trying to show it off. It's a lot of work.
12/27/2016 4:57:21 PM
goin to see this today, lookin forward to it
