Got mine in the mail today. Very fast, slick, remote is nice.I have an xbox 1 connected to my tv that does everything with just voice so I probably won't leave the stick hooked up, but I think I'm going to leave it in the box so I can throw it into a travel bag whenever I go somewhere.

I have to reboot this fucker constantly And this is just dumb, but I'm going to bitch about it anyway. I don't know what happened to the remote, but now when I press down or left, instead of "snapping" it sqeaks lol[Edited on December 17, 2014 at 7:59 PM. Reason : ]

Does Plex on it require PlexPass?
12/17/2014 8:45:09 PM
no, but it will cost you $5 from the store or whatever - unless you side load it or something
12/17/2014 8:56:14 PM
well that pays for itself vs. xbox one thensold
12/18/2014 9:00:06 AM
Yeah I'm getting wifi drops every few days. Not really enough to be annoying. Resetting fixes the issue. Hope they patch that soon.
12/19/2014 4:01:21 PM
I have had zero issues with mine and love it. Used it for watchespn and amazon prime. So much better than my yahoo tv smart visio tv.Amazon prime loads instantly and reliably.
12/19/2014 4:15:37 PM
9/10 so far, only because the Twitch app needs a little work. But otherwise highly satisfied.
12/19/2014 4:21:10 PM
Are there any apps that will let me browse CIFS/SMB shares and play videos of various formats
12/27/2014 2:26:22 AM
Waiting on them to fix the wifi portal logon issue. Called CS, seems like it was based in india. After negeotiating with them for 15 minutes that YES it wasn't a WEP/WPA password i finally got my lingo right for them and said "Portal" and they said ahh, not working will be added in future.

Could always just create a hot spot with a laptop and connect it through there.
12/27/2014 5:03:58 PM
^had i had a laptop that would have been something I would have done.
12/31/2014 10:17:12 AM
...it decided to flip out and force me to reactivate every app and redo passwords yesterday. How the shit are the rest of you not having the same issues?
12/31/2014 6:58:57 PM
^I just had to re-enter my credentials for Netflix. Wonder if it was an update or something.
12/31/2014 8:00:56 PM
I have had to log back into Netflix 2 times since I got it. Not that big of a deal
1/1/2015 7:19:52 PM
...have you had to reauthorize all your apps multiple times as well?
1/1/2015 9:28:06 PM
Couldn't even reboot the thing this time. Had to yank the god damn receiver out so I could unplug it
1/2/2015 11:59:10 AM
No issues here but is there a damn way to search in the netflix app? It's a damn pain.
1/2/2015 1:54:08 PM
When you open Netflix, press up from the row you start from.
1/2/2015 3:30:41 PM
Only ever had to reauthorize netflix nothing else. Also, I have it plugged into the USB on my TV so it shuts off every time I turn off the TV. I wonder if regular rebooting helps.
1/2/2015 4:54:17 PM
Ohhh, great idea with using the TV for power. Can't believe I didn't think of that. Going to switch that over tonight. Thanks for the tip![Edited on January 2, 2015 at 5:31 PM. Reason : ]
1/2/2015 5:31:50 PM
thanks for the netflix tip.also...hmm, maybe i'll try the USB on the TV port as well..but i haven't had many issues. Had to re-enter my Netflix password today for the first time in weeks.

I have been noticing that in Netflix and occasionally Amazon Prime the video stutters. I don't think it's a bandwidth issue but a frame rate issue. It doesn't appear to be correctly applying 3:2 pulldown or syncing to the 60hz of the tv. Kind of annoying. I wonder i the Fire TV performs better. I'm not asking for perfect 24p playback but not stuttering would be nice.
1/5/2015 9:03:31 AM
does it stutter both picture and sound? i had a bit of that this weekend, just assumed it was bandwidth as i was using wifi on another device around the same time it was happening.
1/5/2015 10:20:07 AM
Just picture. It looks like it's a frame rate issue.

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2474622,00.aspDish Targets Cord Cutters With 'Sling TV' for $20/Month
1/5/2015 3:23:56 PM
It's a start. Some people will be okay with it due to ESPN, but there doesn't look like nearly enough worthwhile channels to justify $20
1/5/2015 6:23:10 PM
^agreed. But I would consider picking something like that up for a month or two here or there. (World Cup, playoffs in a few sports, etc.). If that option exists that would be nice. But yes $20 every month just for that is a no go.[Edited on January 5, 2015 at 6:29 PM. Reason : ]

The sling tv lineup seems pretty useless unless you only want it for sports. I've been without TV service for 5 years now and while the idea is nice, it doesn't seem very appealing.http://www.thewrap.com/cable-bill-battle-subscribers-providers-carriage-fees/(Comparing the most-watched, with the most-expensive channels)I might be interested in it if they traded ESPN and ESPN 2 (and I guess the Disney Channel since I doubt Disney would license their namesake channel unbundled from ESPN) for a better variety (USA, FX, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, History Channel, AMC, A&E, and some national news like CNN/FOX/MSNBC).If we can't have a la carte, I wish we could at least separate the packages by content owner: Disney-owned channels, Viacom, Turner, Discovery Communications, Comcast/NBC Universal, etc.
1/5/2015 6:34:52 PM
That sling doesn't seem all that bad. Beats paying $130/month for service when I really only watch local channels and ESPN(s). $20 is well worth it. Now upgrade that hardware to include a digital antenna for locals, integrate a DVR, and we're good to go.
1/6/2015 9:01:44 AM
i'm still thinking i'll be better served with netflix, hulu plus and bars for games not on broadcast channels
1/6/2015 9:17:22 AM
^oh, my bad. I just quickly glanced at the article and also saw a picture of a STB, so I figured that was part of their sling service.

I'm sure this has been discussed, but I'm too lazy to read through 4 pages. Can you mirror Android devices with this thing?
1/13/2015 9:43:38 AM
no, miracast is listed but it's not actually able to mirror

my parents wanted to try out my Fire Stick so i brought it over yesterday. Their current TV setup is HDMI from Blu-Ray to TV and Cable Box to TV. Then Optical Out to an AV receiver. I plugged the Fire Stick into an open HDMI slot on the TV but no sound comes through. Is this an ARC issue with the TV or receiver? I know the receiver doesn't have any HDMI inputs, hence the use of optical.
1/15/2015 8:38:23 AM
I've never had a TV that supports ARC, so I am talking out of my ass here, but did you try to plug the FTV into one of the inputs they're currently using? Maybe only certain HDMI ports support that feature?
1/15/2015 11:56:10 AM
the more i read into it that might be a solution. Some older TVs had HDMI inputs that only supported video and not audio. Perhaps that's the case. I'll try it again tomorrow. ^no ARC at all? I assumed that was pretty standard at this day and age. (Their TV is probably 6+ years old)

I feel like I'm not the target audience in the whole "cutting the cable" debate because I watch no sports.

Anyone else's remote complete shit?I must have gotten a fire stick off the line with every defective component possible. The buttons on the remote stick like crazy. Quick tap down? Fire stick is like, "hell, let's make it three." Had to pull the batteries the other day because it just wanted to keep scrolling in whatever direction was last pressed. Only time it's done that, but the 3+ for one presses are 50% of the time at minimum.[Edited on February 26, 2015 at 7:59 AM. Reason : ]

One thing I didn't think about before is that basic cable is free if you have TWC internet, so if you are okay with SD just do that.
2/26/2015 8:42:05 AM
My remote is great! So the wireless network drop issue. I think they fixed it with an update. I haven't had it drop in a couple months and mine stays powered on all the time (plugged into the wall).
2/26/2015 12:37:48 PM
Yah I'm a fan of the remote
2/26/2015 12:45:20 PM
The Android remote app works well too. Basically does what the physical remote does. The new Logitech Harmony remotes are great. This one is only $99 and has the RF hub and you can connect it to basically anything (receiver, computer, tv, firetv, etc). http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BQ5RYI4/Basically the smaller version of the more expensive one with the touch screen.
2/26/2015 12:50:28 PM
that $100 includes the hub you need for the Fire stick?
2/26/2015 1:23:46 PM
Yup:

Still no apps for mirroring PC's, iphones, etc?I love the stick...the more apps they add the better.Amazon's movie rental prices though ouch

i bought the Air Buddy app to use with Airplay, it works alrightcan also confirm the controller is decently water resistant after i dropped it into my cup
