No. I never said that. That's another assumption on your part that you've made from a few posts, where I really haven't said anything like that. For the most part, I bet wewould agree on almost all aspects of this. I'm just talking specifically about soda, man, and I'm basically playing devil's advocate to your position.(and the fact that you keep calling names and saying things like "i thought you were smarter but i guess not", could lead me to make the assumption that you think you're smarter and superior to anyone who doesn't agree with you, and that gives you the right to be mean to them and try to insult them and make them feel bad about themselves)[Edited on June 6, 2014 at 3:41 PM. So you agree that nothing will change if this happens, right? Poor people will still be poor and nothing about their lives or their situations will improve by this measure. Glad we cleared that up.
6/6/2014 3:39:26 PM
I never said otherwise.

can we get back to being outraged at the loud iPhone lady with rims? Maybe if we get angry enough she'll feel ashamed and change her ways. Either that or we can give Bullet an iPhone too so he'll stop being so jealous of her awesome life.
6/6/2014 3:53:12 PM
^^you're such a hypocrite dude.^and you're really discrediting yourself by being so disengenous. It really seems that if yall cared about people so much, you wouldn't be such assholes. It doesn't make sense.[Edited on June 6, 2014 at 3:56 PM. Reason : ]
6/6/2014 3:54:42 PM
you can call me an arrogant asshole all you want (it's true!), but I take exception to hypocrite. How on earth am being a hypocrite for attacking this idiotic, mean-spirited attempt to further sub humanize the poor?[Edited on June 6, 2014 at 3:57 PM. Reason : .]
6/6/2014 3:56:54 PM
Again, i wasn't talking to you. I'm not subhumanizing the poor. Perphaps that is accurate for some people in this thread. Again, you don't know anything about me or how I grew up, yet you're choosing to make this personal.Anyways, I'm bowing out. This is silly, people comparing paying teachers to giving people food stamps for soda. and I feel like I've been totally misrepresented. and the name-calling shit is ridiculous and childish.[Edited on June 6, 2014 at 4:03 PM. there is an ocean of empathy between "wanting poor people to make better/healthier choices" and "ban soda stamps so poor people have to pay for their own vices !!1"i'm not quite sure how to articulate the difference any better.

Yep, I'll call someone an arrogant asshole if they start hurling names and throwing insults at me for no other reason than not completely agreeing with them.[Edited on June 6, 2014 at 4:21 PM. Reason : and downtral has proved time and time again on this stie that he truly is an arrogant asshole.]
6/6/2014 4:20:41 PM
the fact that he's 100% correct in this matter and the fact that he's an arrogant asshole, aren't mutually exclusive.you seem like your feelings are really hurt over this though, so sorry about that.
6/6/2014 4:22:54 PM
The guy had a good quote or two in this thread.Pretty much everyone has been hostile ITT, so it's virtually irrelevant by now.
6/6/2014 4:31:53 PM
Yeah dude, you hurt my feelings, made me feel subhuman with your childish insults and unprovoked attacks. I hope you feel better about yourself. I'm sure the poor people are proud that they have a smart, compasionate guy like you fighting for them.[Edited on June 6, 2014 at 4:37 PM. Reason : jeez i'm bored]
6/6/2014 4:36:55 PM
sorry I hurt your feelings Bullet. I'd offer you an iPhone 5 as a peace offering, but you already have a smart phone, so it would just go to waste.[Edited on June 6, 2014 at 4:54 PM. Reason : .]

6/6/2014 4:56:45 PM
Again, back to the subhuman thing. You think you're better than poor people so you want to try and control them and punish them. You even admit that this idea won't work, yet you still support it, just because you get off on the very thought of punishing the poor. [Edited on June 6, 2014 at 4:59 PM. Reason : .]
6/6/2014 4:58:52 PM
You're a teacher, right?I'll take an iPhone 5. It's nicer than the one I have. I could then give mine to my cousin who only has a land-line in his trailer. He and his four kids could share it and play candy crush. (btw, every time you tell a joke about buying me an iPhone 5, it's even funnier than the last time.)
6/6/2014 5:00:02 PM
Yeah, I'm an adjunct at a university. My iPhone 4S barely fucking works, but I'm holding out til the 6 comes out. Even still, I wouldn't trade places with the chick on food stamps rocking the 5. NOPE.
6/6/2014 5:03:10 PM
Minimum wage workers can afford IiPhones if they save long enough, both of you can easily afford an iPhone 5 if you want it, having some shitty phone because you choose to doesn't give you street cred. This should be obvious to any person.
6/6/2014 5:13:27 PM
90% of my students have iPhones and could probably qualify for food stamps and I still wouldn't trade places with them either.Of course I could afford a new iPhone right now, I just choose to spend my money on vacations and other shit instead. Having a iPhone isn't really a good barometer of one's wealth or station in life. It's a fucking cell phone.
6/6/2014 5:17:58 PM
This is not a good barometer of one's wealth, this is a cell phone. Duuh!
6/6/2014 5:22:19 PM
The american dream a act in every driveway and a bottle of soda in every fridge.
6/6/2014 5:34:50 PM
can someone post a meme containing an iPhone 5, loud lady, and a car with rims? This thread is going flat, but I don't want to do any actual work to make it fizz again.
6/6/2014 5:35:23 PM
I wouldn't trade places with them either,as I realize that I'm pretty fortunate to be in the position that I'm currently in. I'm supportive of my tax payer dollars going to people less fortunate than me. I believe that one of the primary roles of government should be to help it's less fortunate citizens and those that fall on hard times. That's why i support programs like welfare and food stamps. I also don't view fat people or cargo-short wearing people as subhuman, nor do i criticize people who wear socks that are different colors than their trousers. And i accept that people who have otterboxes on their iphone are just trying to be responsible and to keep their fancy phone in working condition, because they don't want to shell out money to replace a cracked screen. I don't think I'm better than them because I think otterboxes are a little tacky.
6/6/2014 5:36:13 PM
what in the actual fuck are you talking about?
6/6/2014 5:39:02 PM
6/6/2014 5:51:42 PM
I was picturing a minority for some reason, but that works too.
6/6/2014 5:54:08 PM
I don't much care whether sodas are banned or not, because here are the things that will happen regardless:1) Most people on food stamps have more than zero money, and money is fungible, so if they really want soda they'll get it regardless (having used food stamps to pay for something else, for example)2) We're all on the same page about sodas being unhealthy, but that's about where it ends. To me, the idea of a bunch of wannabe nutritionists and doctors arguing about whether juice and a gazillion other things should join the list of banned foods...well, it seems like a waste of everybody's time.3) Food stamps are a tiny portion of the budget. So tiny that even their contribution to obesity via soda guzzling poor people can't be too big. So yeah. If you can ban it relatively easily, knock yourself out. But if it costs more than $randolphcounty in political capital, maybe look elsewhere

6/6/2014 9:44:36 PM
^^^^ That's pretty much it. I think that food stamps should be run like WIC, where it's not by exception--types of foods have to be specifically approved. Cereal, milk, eggs, etc...not soda, etc...and you're damn right I think I should have a say in it, because it's my fucking money we're spending. That said, it won't accomplish all that much. Many/most poor people are going to find a way to be poor, waste money, eat shitty foods, and fuck away their money and health and alcohol and cigarettes no matter what we do...and it won't accomplish that much fiscally, either. This is the right thing to do, but it's not a high priority and certainly not worth much political capital.

I don't like liver. Clearly liver should also be struck from the list of things that can be bought with food stamps.Since, you know, I'm paying for it.
6/6/2014 11:53:24 PM

^^ no, it has nothing to do with shaming.^ of course I would feel the same way. It still would be a terrible anogy. It has nothing to do with what you like.
6/7/2014 9:25:27 AM
as long as the liver is neeses it should be on the listlets only allow them to have certain brandssoda, eh the poor only get sundropetcalso:
6/7/2014 11:19:22 AM
Why would coke and Pepsi ever let this happen. Let's get serious.
6/7/2014 12:44:20 PM
It will have virtually no effect on the sale of soda, so I doubt they will care.
