Has Tennessee really only made one Elite 8 ever??? No wonder they worship an average Xs and Os conman like Pearl.

They have that SEC money to burn so I'm sure they'll hire a name. Martin grossly underperformed given his talent level over his time there..

Florida was ok under Lon Kruger until the last year. Beat a good UConn team mid-90s and made a Final Four.

But Marshall could make the leap to better schools for the same amount of money at any other time...why settle for Tennessee??

yeah but nothing at all like they have been under Donovan. Final Four is one game further than the Elite 8 you mentioned

^ I dont think he was a hot commodity until this season, what big $$ schools have been open since the end of the tourney?

Marshall is a candidate according to some fans on Tennessee's scout.com board

seems legit

^^ you misunderstood my post. It was in response to someone saying that he would leave Wichita for another program. When Donovan was signed to Florida he had a lot of other offers the Florida paid the most

^ But the college landscape is different now. Coaches can do more and also get paid much more at mid-majors. Back in the day if you wanted to hold out for a bigger job you had to keep that 250k salary and still need to win your conference tourney to make the dance. Now you can make a mil or two and get at-large bids while you wait for Duke/UNC/UCLA/etc to come calling.

And Donovan was a completely different coach at the time he got hired at UF. He had barely been a head coach for a couple years before he got hired. Marshall has been a head coach FOREVER and is extremely proven.

Not really a good comparison at all.

Let's not bring weight into this. That's pretty low.

I mean...you gotta laugh at UT fans thinking they can get Marshall just like you would laugh at State fans for thinking they could get Donovan/Calipari/Barnes back in the day. Or even at Wake fans recently for thinking they could get Smart.

I think UT should be able to do better than a Danny Manning type hire...but the game of musical chairs in coaching ended a while ago. It will be interesting to see who they can pry away right now.

eh, I dont think its that big of a reach, definitely nowhere near the Donovan/Calipari level. Not saying we will get him (I dont think we will) but we will see.

I mean...at least we had Calipari in Raleigh. I doubt you get Marshall to Knoxville.

I think even Archie would be a reach (but is someone you guys should be ecstatic for).

On the flip side...I wouldn't be surprised to see a name coach go there for a ton of money...I just don't think it will be one of the top dogs like Marshall. It will be interesting to see who you target and who you get.

I saw a few posts about it but why do people think Cal is a bad job? IMO it's a better bball job than UT. Fertile recruiting, good conference, solid backing of athletic programs, etc.

Plus they relaxed admission standards for athletes under Tedford so you no longer have to worry about getting literate kids.

Yeah...I'm also confused at the "Cal his a horrible job" people. Good recruiting, easy major conference...good university and location to sell. Standards aren't ridiculously high either. So although they will expect him to succeed...it's not UCLA type pressure.

Much better than living in a shitty Knoxville where people are looking for Kentucky/Florida results where it has less than a Wake Forest history.

Haith does not seem to understand how coaching works in college basketball. You are supposed to move up with each job not go from the ACC to the Big 12/SEC to Fucking Tulsa. What a clown. I wonder what shady shit he did at Mizzo that he's trying to escape from now.

Haith would've been fired after one more bad year at Mizzou and next years roster is bad there. Tulsa is a tourney team moving to a better conference (better than they were in before at least) who will pay him more...

From Tulsa perspective they need better players to compete with UConn, Memphis, Cincy and SMU so they hired a recruiter; though one that sucks at coaching..

So how close was our delusional coaching search compared to thinking you have a shot at Marshall and then having the 3rd year coach at Louisiana Tech "mull over" the decision? lulz at the pot/kettle/black

UT should throw in the towel and hire Allan Houston or Kellie Harper.

Knockout hire for the Vols. Get turned down by Louisiana Tech head coach and hire Southern Miss head coach who's made the NIT the last two years. If you don't see this as a good hire, you're an unobjective fucke.

He's a better hire than the L Tech guy who turned them down. I think they upgraded over Martin too. Still embarrassing though to get turned down by a nobody from a nobody school.
