It shouldn't be a requirement to have an online wish list. She gave us the option to note things we like. If you don't note anything (and particularly if you don't post much about yourself in combination with that) you get a complete surprise. Maybe that's what some people want.

^^^Damned if I do, damned if I don't. Last year all I got were angry PMs because folks hadn't gotten gifts by a certain time, so it was suggested to have a shopping/mailing deadline so that folks would atleast have something by christmas. With an approximate 9 day shipping window, the 15th seemed like the best idea.

If you wanted to set up a personal delivery its not like that absolutely couldn't happen, the deadline was more for procrastinators.
