Well I thought when he described Robin and Barney's marriage as it "ended up being legendary" was interesting because earlier in the episode they said "legendary" really meant "not real."She dead and now he's with "your Aunt Robin"?

Ring bear was awesome.

Lily's wig in the flashbacks is driving me crazy

I called the whole Robin is the mother a long time ago. Its obvious if you pay attention to how the writers seem to do a Robin/Ted scene every so often. I don't think they would keep bringing that relationship back up every so often if it wasn't important. Also, I always have a feeling this Robin Barney marriage thing is somehow not going to work out. It just doesn't feel right for some reason. The writers keep bringing up obstacles for them not to get married. Robins mom describing Robins dad for example.
3/25/2014 9:23:06 PM
Then how do you explain Ted describing to his kids that he heard their mother sing La Vie En Rose a million times to them as she tucked them in at night, but the night on the balcony was always his favorite? That wasn't Robin, unless there's some weird tie in that she's a stepmother.I think Robin and Barney stay married and the mother they've introduced is the real mother, just not sure what's going to happen to her.
3/25/2014 9:45:50 PM
^agreed. The Barney and Robin thing isnt supposed to feel right because its Barney. Thats just his aura. The girl is def. the mom of the kids.
3/25/2014 10:13:45 PM
3/25/2014 11:32:40 PM
I don't doubt that the girl he keeps referring to as "their mother" is indeed the mother of the children. I think the reason people are saying Ted/Robin might end up together is because they've alluded a LOT to the fact that something isn't quite right in the present regarding their mother. Not that hard to imagine that Ted and the mom get married, have the 2 kids, she ends up getting sick with something terminal and passing away. Also not farfetched given the type of people they are that Barney and Robin would be married for some time and then end up with a divorce allowing her to console Ted and eventually reconnect with him.Totally speculation at this point, but not really hard to imagine the show ending that way.
3/26/2014 8:13:32 AM
i don't think they would refer to her as "aunt robin" if she was the stepmom to the kids. that's just weird.
3/26/2014 9:18:32 AM
Unless the whole reason he's giving the back-story is explaining to the kids why he is going to ask "Aunt Robin" to marry him. He's told them WAY more about his relationship history with her than he has about his relationship with their mother. Also didn't Ted/Robin have a pact that if they're both single at 40 they'll get married?
3/26/2014 9:35:05 AM
Also didn't the "non Robin" mother lose a lover? Part of the Ted/Mother parody there. I guess I wouldn't mind if it ended that way. It would have been better if the Ted/Robin thing had not been revisited 1 gajillion times.
3/26/2014 10:43:52 AM
Other than the pending disappointment of the finale, this show is starting to remind me of lost because of the really overly analyzed ideas that discount all reason and cannon people are sharing on the Internet. There are some things that are just obviously not the case, in the Robin and Ted scenario is one of them.Listen, he has described the mom as a love his life. The first time I thought she was going to die, was when he said that he was near her apartment and had he known she were in there he would've rushed over and beaten up her boyfriend, just for the opportunity for him have a few more days with her. When you're professing that sort of love, you don't follow up in the bit with now I'm going to go marry your aunt Robin.
3/26/2014 10:45:48 AM
You have that much faith in the consistency of the writing over the past 4/5 years with this show?
3/26/2014 11:14:03 AM
I have as of yet seen anything that was incredibly inconsistent with cannon.
3/26/2014 2:13:40 PM
"HEY KIDS, I SURE DID LOVE YOUR MOTHER, BUT I'M GONNA GO BANG OUT YOUR AUNT ROBIN NOW"
3/26/2014 3:18:27 PM
^How is that not any more believable than the fact that these kids have just listened to their dad tell them ~70 hours worth of stories about a bunch of his drinking buddies and ex-lovers leading up to how he me their mother? That is 70 hours with maybe 1-2 hours of it actually about their mother, and a LOT more about his relationship with their "Aunt Robin".
3/26/2014 3:34:59 PM
Canon*

3/26/2014 9:26:42 PM
Dude.Robin isn't the mother.
3/26/2014 11:04:52 PM
The twist of Robin and Ted coming together would drive me nuts, and I don't think it will happen that way. I'll still label it a 'maybe', though. And, no, Robin is not the mother. Ignoring everything about the series and the DVDs that specifically say such things, we watched Miliota in flash-backs (flash-forwards?) being pregnant and going into labor at the Inn/Hotel for _both_ kids.More bad conspiracy theories here than 9/11.
3/27/2014 1:31:25 PM
I can see a very open ended finale. Mother is dead, Barney and Robin are divorced, Robin comes in and puts her hand on Ted's or something
3/27/2014 3:32:11 PM
Name of the show implies it's Ted's journey to meeting the mother, no? So why is it a shock that the mother has limited screen time?
3/28/2014 9:51:59 AM
If we were to rate Ted's potential wives over the years I've gotta say that Christin Milioti is near the top IMO. I would maybe put Sarah Chalke above her but nobody else comes to mind.
3/28/2014 10:54:24 AM
I was Team Victoria for the longest time, but once they actually got back together I didn't find her as appealing.
3/28/2014 5:38:56 PM
I thought him and Zooey were destined to be together. She was the best all around, other than the mom.
3/28/2014 9:52:52 PM
Too bad, the mother is (duh duh duh duh)
3/28/2014 11:47:36 PM
I didn't like the cupcake girl.I did like Zooey cept she was crazy.

Welp
3/31/2014 8:21:52 PM
Yep. So the mother is gonna die before they ever get married. And then robin comes back. I hope he kicks her to the curb.
3/31/2014 8:42:42 PM
Predictable ending was predictable
3/31/2014 9:00:39 PM
Booooo.

Lame.

Well I must be the only one who enjoyed the ending. Reddit is flaming, same as here.
3/31/2014 9:19:00 PM
3/31/2014 9:28:09 PM
So what would've been your ideal ending?Personally, I think it made sense to end it that way. Although it was obvious Robin wasn't the mother the series was designed to end this way from the beginning.
3/31/2014 9:29:53 PM
3/31/2014 9:31:43 PM
congratulations to Dexter, Seinfeld, Lost, and Roseanne for being topped on the "worst finale of all time" list
3/31/2014 9:41:22 PM
This was my ideal ending. The execution was not the best. I thought they crammed way too much into one episode. They should have gotten to the Robin - Ted thing sooner and had the mother die earlier.
3/31/2014 9:42:40 PM
I didn't think it was bad, just predictable.
3/31/2014 9:52:17 PM
I was fine with it until the very end. I feel like they downplayed everything he and the mother had together. I would have been a puddle if they just left it at that one quintessential moment under the umbrella, but NO. They just HAD to fucking bring it back around to Robin and Ted who were HORRIBLE TOGETHER. God, they were awful. They were much better off as friends, and I think one of my favorite parts of HIMYM was when Barney proposed to Robin because it was the perfect moment to show Ted had finally let go of her. But obviously he hadn't! Ugh. The one part that I refuse to be mad about in regards to the finale is when Barney met his daughter. I definitely teared up and NPH is the man.
3/31/2014 9:53:45 PM
Just finished it. It wasn't awful.Definitely rushed, especially the last few minutes. As everyone has said - predictable.
3/31/2014 10:10:22 PM
Quintessential of everything annoying over the past few seasons. Always bringing it back to Robin.
3/31/2014 10:40:40 PM
3/31/2014 10:48:35 PM
If that had been the ending like 3-4 years ago then I would've liked it. It as a good episode - it just ignored borderline everything that led up to this point. http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/series-finale-review-how-i-met-your-mother-last-forever-how-they-conned-us-all^ thought this kind of hit the nail on the head.[Edited on March 31, 2014 at 11:15 PM.
