Not that Wikipedia is entirely accurate all the time, but the episode synopsis says they meet up for the first time in 10 years.
2/25/2014 7:35:32 AM
lol. I was just reading the wiki page.
2/25/2014 7:36:50 AM
One small detail I'd like to point out -- I'm really glad that when his wife read his text messages in 2002, it was on a flip phone with a crappy camera and not a smartphone or whatever. Also, they did a good job on the makeup to make her look old in present day.

Is there any chance that his association with that biker gang was not actually undercover work? Like he was actually down with some of those guys?
2/25/2014 10:13:09 AM
^^I think part of him coming back to get his stuff was that he knew Marty would be there, he knew Marty would be pissed, and he wanted to let him throw a few punches and own up to it like a man. Yeah he could have probably kicked his ass but he knew Marty would feel better after roughing him up a bit (he probably found out how he dealt with those two guys his daughter was found with). Also, I'm pretty his look in 2014 (handlebar mustache, long hair with ponytail, etc.) is all part of his cover image to whatever he is looking into.
2/25/2014 11:39:02 AM
LOL, I'm glad I read Skack's post. I didn't watch very closely, and I missed all that. I thought Rust was just down and out this whole time.
2/25/2014 11:50:58 AM
Also, I'm pretty his look in 2014 2012 (handlebar mustache, long hair with ponytail, etc.) is all part of his cover image to whatever he is looking into.

I didn't quite follow the connection between the religious schools run by Tuttle and murdering/abducting children. Someone on IMDB had claimed he was profiting off of them somehow? Can someone explain?
2/25/2014 3:58:15 PM
most of the murdered kids attended one of his foundation's (Wellspring) schools?
2/25/2014 4:02:05 PM
Tuition reimbursement, yo. Find kids. Get money. Kill kids. Find more kids. Get money. Kill kids.
2/25/2014 6:07:06 PM
^^ the abandoned school that rust returned to in 2002 also had a lot of those wooden devil catcher things lying around and was said to be one of tuttle's schools back in 1995i'm wondering if there's any chance rust may not be part of some kind of deep cover investigation and had just been doing things on his own for those 8 years when he was off the grid. i'm not sure whether there would be legal ramifications to him conducting his own investigation and gathering documents and evidence against people. he could have 8 years worth of shit stored away that he doesn't want the cops to seize and potentially frame him with in addition to destroying all the work he accomplished. it looks like he recruits marty on the next episode. if he was truly part of some kind of official investigation then i can't see him bothering to bring in marty as part of it if he'd been deep undercover for so long.[Edited on February 25, 2014 at 6:11 PM. ^Did you read the thread? We've been speculating that exact idea for a while now.
2/26/2014 9:17:13 AM
My prediction: Lawnmower man is the giant (he played Remus on Boardwalk Empire), Rust catches him, Hart finally talks to his daughter and figures out she was sexually traumatized by his father in law, Hart's father in law is the Yellow King.

Clearly the only thing in the storage unit was his truck which is now gone. Any investigation documents he has won't be in that unit. He's too smart.
2/26/2014 9:48:56 AM
^ So if he is doing an investigation, why leave his truck in storage for all these years again?
2/26/2014 10:06:49 AM
To "disappear"
2/26/2014 10:14:42 AM
Why would he be so defensive about the cops searching his storage unit if his truck was the only thing in there? He'd just be like "Sure. Take a look. Have fun." knowing that there wasn't anything in there to incriminate him.
2/26/2014 11:43:04 AM
didnt they show the inside of his unit in the preview for next week? It was loaded with files, a computer, etc

Another amazing episodeI think Marty's ex wife is in on the cult and has leveraged Marty's infidelity at least once and almost twice to derail the investigation.
3/2/2014 10:51:33 PM
^i doubt it, i've enjoyed, and partaken, in a lot of the conspiracy theories, but its looking like its is going to be more straight forward than that. Thats not to say that i wouldn't absolutely love some final twist. Another awesome episode, can't fucking wait til next week.
3/3/2014 12:03:47 AM
kind of want to go back to episode 2 or 3 or whatever and check out the scarring on spaghetti man's face because i definitely didn't notice it the first time, not that i would've even been looking for it
3/3/2014 12:17:05 AM
scarring is only on his right side. they only showed his left side in ep 3. + he had a beard then too.
3/3/2014 12:28:37 AM
I don't think it's him. The scarring is not obvious enough. It's not a trademark feature you can't help but notice. It's there, but from the way it's been described by the characters that have seen it, the fat guy isn't scarface or whoever.
3/3/2014 8:12:02 AM
It definitely is him
3/3/2014 8:27:55 AM
yeah, i don't think they're going to introduce another character with scarring around his mouth on the last episode
3/3/2014 9:17:16 AM
yeah, i thought it was pretty clear he's the man with scars. in all the interviews i've read with the writer/creator he's basically saying he's not trying to fool anyone and it's a pretty straightforward story. interesting articles about last night's ep:http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/03/02/how-true-detective-will-end-what-we-know-up-to-episode-7-after-you-ve-gone.htmlhttp://www.pajiba.com/true_detective/true-detective-recap-theories-and-answers-after-episode-7-after-youve-gone.php#.UxTSouNdXSghttp://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2014/03/02/true_detective_episode_7_after_you_ve_gone_a_recap_of_the_hbo_show.htmlhttp://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/review-true-detective-after-youve-gone-for-all-unpaid-debts-public-and-privatehttp://www.avclub.com/tvclub/true-detective-after-youve-gone-201702?utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=feeds
