None of those places have anything close to $500 on any of their menus online. Most of them are similar in pricing to what ncsuallday posted. That's not cheap, but quit being an idiot.

^^ I meant for two people.

Daniel NYC:

Quote :
"
Chef’s Tasting Menu
Eight Course Tasting $220
Paired with Wine, add $130
"

We had two cocktails @ $30 each plus that and tax was almost $700 with tip. You will not leave full or hammered.

Momofuku Ko:

Quote :
"
our dinner menu is served seven days a week and is currently $125 per person – please allow at least two hours for your meal.
"

Beverage pairing is $95 and includes beer, wine, and hard liquor and tax and tip came to over $500. You leave full and hammered.

If you're spending $120 on four cocktails you're an idiot no matter what city you're in.

^ Apologies I was thinking of French Laundry which is now $275 a person and Benu in SF which is $220 or so. I didn't realize NY was so affordable!

But the $16 one doesn't come with spherified strawberries and an extra shot of rum! Besides it was a special occasion (engagement). YOLO

You realize 'amazing' is subjective, right?

I believe that pretty much every major city including Raleigh is probably pretty 'amazing' unless you're a lazy and/or boring person who is unwilling to explore and embrace what makes them 'amazing' and who subscribes to ridiculous hierarchical thinking with a need to put everything into a fucking huffpo top ten list.

^ I am not cool as I should have made abundantly clear, I'm just not content with boredom or the status quo. I have to do new and exciting things or I get depressed. I wish getting hammered in Raleigh was enough, I had it super easy there comparatively.

I guess I should just aspire to this: http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/

Raleigh is pretty average. Decent proximity to things, sports, concerts, bars.

Its biggest strengths are low cost of living with high wages and low crime. I.e very family friendly.

Its weaknesses are pretty glaring.

Restaurants are terrible with only a bare minimum of exceptions. I mean sseriously places like the oxford charge $20-$30 for shit.

The local music scene is worse than just about any city ever. Its so bad most bands just bypass raleigh on the way to Richmond or Charlotte despite its prime route down the southeast.

Transportation is garbage.

There arw probably 50 too many bars which leads to 100+ places that are all dead as shit trying to charge $4 a beer at 10 pm on a Wednesday even though youre the only people in there. Fayetteville and glenwood are just a ghost town bc no one goes out on weekdays so there are barely any specials

The main problem with raleigh though is the people. The women are downright fat and unattractive given the size of the city. A bunch of higb school 7s who have eaten themselves into 5s. Pretentious even though they arent successful or have good personalities. They have no women friends they go out with the same 5 guys they get passed around by every weekend its weird.

Its one of those cities where if you introduce yourself to someone they wonder what your angle is. Not chill people loking to get hammered and see where the night goes.

having lived outside the triangle for a while, there are so many shows that go to dc ->raleigh/durham/chapel hill -> atlanta

i mean i think durham is the best music city in triangle right now. but that's kinda splitting hairs. the triangle is an incredible music scene, and if you don't realize that, i feel bad for you, son.

i really like living in raleigh. i'm not crazy about the "big city" lifestyle of not owning a car, relying on public transportation, small living spaces, etc, and raleigh lets you avoid that while enjoying the benefits of a bigger city. obviously not all of the benefits, but it's a balance i enjoy. there are way more bars than i have ever been to, easy access to state football and basketball games, and i have a lot of friends here. to each his own, i guess.

that being said, hopefully i will have kids one day, and would probably rather raise a family back east where i'm from...either in new bern or carteret county.

There are occasional acts that stop at the National in Richmond and not anywhere in NC. With that said, the only remarkable one that springs to mind is My Bloody Valentine.

i will say that the triangle is lacking a good larger club (the size of the ritz/disco rodeo but not terrible)

When looking at venues in NYC the bands are always coming to the triangle and playing venues half the size for less.

It makes me sad sometimes.

raleigh doesn't have enough going on as far as outdoors stuff. the greenway trails and umstead park and things like that are cool, but nothing compared to being right on the beach or in the mountains. that is why i can't ever see myself moving back there.

i can leave work now and be 10,000 ft on a mountain in 20 minutes, 14,000 in 30. being "close" to the beach and the mountains is just not the same.

i loved raleigh....until i actually moved out of NC and lived somewhere else.

also, i took this picture of my friend in pueblo, co.

also, the CO state fair is in pueblo, its super cheap to live there, it has a huge resevoir where people can boat, ski, and cliff jump, it has the hot/dry weather of the desert but also gets epic snowstorms from the south. it is close to really great white water rafting spots, a few hours from major ski resorts, and close to denver. so i'd say pueblo and raleigh are pretty even! (note - i don't actually live in pueblo and have only been there a few times, just thought it was totally random that it was thrown out there)

Per capita I put Charleston's food and beverage ahead of anywhere in the country. And we have beaches.

Wish there were some better bars in Raleigh that were more unique. If I had someone visit from out of town and ask what bar they should hit up or what area of downtown that would be a fun time and something unique to Raleigh I'd struggle to suggest many ideas that weren't just some shitty bar trying to be a dance club.

People ITT talking about Paris or LA have obviously never lived in either.

The only way to get anywhere in paris is to take the train, which is filled to the brim with the smelly people, and there's a good chance you'll either see a stabbing or see someone dead from being stabbed. The only way to get around in LA is to take 4 different insanely congested highways. I thought traffic was bad when there's congestion on the interstate when there's a wreck, but this was way worse and it's everywhere.

for real, I'll reiterate again that it's a great city for what it is. You get a little taste of what big cities get without all of the inconveniences and expense. Raleigh is going to lose when you compare a single aspect of the city to another city that's known for that aspect but as a total package, it's actually a great place to live that don't want the big city vibe.

I do agree with face's point about women here, when you approach them in bars they definitely have their guard up, but that could very well be in many other places as well. We always get ranked as one of the best cities for singles, but I've never really gotten that - I guess they just assume since there are so many colleges in the area it must be wonderful.
