I certainly didn't mean to imply by anything I posted that this is a party specific problem...

Lol. No. When you say shit like the current conservatives aren't conservative enough for you, then on the political spectrum you are a nazi.

Face, as he admitted, is far right by his characterization that the current conservatives (who are center-right) are not conservative enough for him.

I'm not far right this country is comprised of a bunch of liberal loons. The fact that nearly every single person in this country is a freeloading, eurotrash socialist should show you how screwed we really are.

We can't even get people to cut medicare or social security. Or PBS or NPR.

List those "similar things," please. I want to know more about the Democrats' recent history with voter suppression.

"NC Student Power Union plans May-Day march"
http://www.technicianonline.com/news/article_9c6e48a4-ad5d-11e2-8fbc-001a4bcf6878.html

Quote :
"The NCPSU, alongside other groups, will also be protesting proposed legislature, like a bill that would require student voters (who are claimed as dependents by their parents) to return to their home county in order to vote.

Otherwise their parents will forego their tax benefits, meaning this law would effectively limit student voting."

Quote :
"The demonstration will start at the Bell Tower at 1:30 p.m.

The protesters plan on marching to the Civitas institute, a conservative think tank, for a mini-rally, then meet with other May Day protesters at Moore Square before arriving at the General Assembly."

I think using the few name of that institute makes it more clear why it would be a target.

"In the rotunda, Barber condemned the Republican legislature’s agenda for hurting the poor and minorities, saying the voter ID measure approved by the House last week prompted the escalation.

“We cannot stand for that silently,” Barber said."

Today the legislature has released a bill that would not count public university student IDs as valid government issued IDs for the purposes of voting, along with not counting private universities either. I believe it also doesn't allow you to use an out of state licence. This is much stricter than earlier versions being considered.

Not all students have licenses. Not all students can afford a car. And those who can probably aren't paying to keep it up to date moving from dorm, to dorm, to home for the summer, to dorm, to apartment, to apartment, etc.

Students are an important piece of the fabric from Raleigh, and if you shorten early voting, end same day registration where a lot of young people get registered for the first time or update their registration as they move, and throw on these overly-restrictive ID requirements, it could really make a dent in student voting.

Quote :
"As of 2011, Time ranked Raleigh, NC as the third most educated city in the US based on the percentage of residents who held college degrees.[36] This statistic can most likely be credited to the presence of universities in and around Raleigh, as well as the presence of Research Triangle Park to the Northwest.

of course they don't count a student ID as an official form of identification.

and why the hell would someone with an out of state license be voting in NC? if they are a NC resident shouldn't they have a NC license?

The purpose of law isn't to prevent people from voting.

Or are you one of those people tho thinks college students engage in voter fraud.

^I realize that no one who goes to state was smart enough to get into any college in another state so this is probably way off your radar but, many students on that out of state tuition (that funds your stupid fucking sports games) will register to vote using their campus address instead of getting a plane ticket or doing some complicated absentee bullshit. Secondly, public schools at least in NC require legit identification in order to get your school ID card. Thirdly, how many college students do you really think used their school id and a governmental id to vote? Is this really a problem or do you just not want people who don't have an ID because they are educated and maybe got drunk at the raleigh times and lost it to vote?

if they are from out of state then they have a choice... either absentee vote in their home state, or if they consider themselves NC residents enough to vote here, then make it official and get a NC driver's license. (or if they don't drive they can get an ID card for a minimal fee)
