^^^I agree the mentally ill and criminal shouldn't get access to guns. But because you think the argument is lame doesn't discount the fact that someone seeking to do harm to people will find a way.

^^The problem with the blanket "you can shoot people on your property" laws is that you get idiots who come out of their front door guns blazing when someone pulls in their driveway to turn around (or in the case of recent news, gets sent to the wrong house via gps.

The NRA will lobby against funding studies to find/track where guns that commit crimes come from.. so yea all I have is a gut feel and the NRA saying "oh no don't look into that it might be damaging for our cause"

So you truly feel that if everyone who has gone on a murder spree, especially the recent school and theatre massacres, if they didn't have easy access to guns, they still would have found a way to perform the same actions with the same results? You think the Lanza-kid would have woken up that morning, killed his mother, gone to the school and killed 26 kids if he didn't have a gun? Maybe so, but do you truly feel that maybe even a few of the massacres might be prevented if the loonies couldn't get a hold of a gun?

Speculation like that is useless because we'll never know. I can tell you that sick people throughout history have gone on rampages without guns. Maybe because they didn't know how to get one, maybe because they just wanted to do it a different way.

Time to ban GPS devices and immigrants.

Quote :
"Man Fatally Shot After GPS Takes Him to Wrong House

Rodrigo Diaz, a 22-year-old Georgia man, was shot and killed after his GPS device directed him to the wrong house, his friends who were with him at the time of the shooting claim.

Diaz and the others in his car were trying to pick up a friend to go ice skating Saturday night. However, Diaz's friends say his GPS device mistakenly led him to the home of 69-year-old Phillip Sailors.

Sailors, mistaking the situation for a home invasion, appeared outside of his home with a .22-caliber handgun. He fired one round in the air then another at the car while Diaz was attempting to speed away. The second shot hit Diaz in the head and he later died as a result, according to WSBTV.

"The guy came out," 15-year-old passenger Yeson Jimenez told WSBTV. "He went in again and he came out with a gun in his hand and he shot into the air."

Diaz had recently arrived in the United States from Colombia.

Sailors, a Vietnam War veteran, was arrested Sunday on a charge of malice murder, or murder committed with the specific intent to kill. He has no previous criminal history. His lawyers told WSBTV that Sailors is innocent and was merely trying to defend his home and his family.

"We maintain Mr. Sailors' innocence. I can tell you Mr. Sailors most certainly thought he was defending his life, his wife's and protecting his home," attorney Mike Puglise said."

what an ignorant short term view

legislation that reduces the total number of guns in circulation over time and enacts strict requirements that must be met by all gun owners with no exceptions will reduce the number of guns owned by bad guys while likely not depriving good guys of the guns they need to defend their homes

that's some long term shit

keep chirping about signs and automotive deaths and "bad guys not caring about the law"

You have to be intentionally obtuse to not realize that the market is already saturated with guns. The government will never be able to reduce the number of guns out there, but they may be able to slow down the number of illegal firearms available to criminals by stalling the number introduced into circulation. The fact is that there are already a shit ton of guns in America and it will be a cold day in hell before the government forces people to turn in there guns. So from that we can deduce that the number of guns in circulation will not be reduced, thus criminals will always have guns.

over time it is possible to reduce the number of guns in circulation

fuck this "the cat's already out of the bag" argument

all transfers of gun ownership should require a background check and registration and grandfathered guns should not be eligible for transfer

My feelings are as follows...

I'm not currently convinced our government is looking after our best interests as much as they are the interests of giant cooperation.

For example
All these mandatory crash tests you think are to make you a safer driver were actually put in place by lobbyists from the big three intentionally making it difficult for a new small company to start, and making foreign car companies have to pay to test their cars here or re-design their cars...
Some of us would risk a lively fun deathtrap with high mpg but we're not offered this anymore because the majority of the country feels we should have a nanny preventing us from doing so.

Now, on to guns....

The 2nd amendment wasn't put there so we could hunt and bring food home to our family. It was an extra check/balance in our government. So when the British became oppressive the first thing they did was take away free press (note amendment 1) the second thing they did is try to remove all guns from colonists (note amendment 2)

“When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty.”

? Thomas Jefferson

Now you pansies are worried about the 1 in 20,000 chance you'll be murdered this year so much that you're willing to give up your right to defend yourself against the murderer... it's fucking stupid. Not to mention one of the reasons no one has ever attacked the continental us is because they all think we're cowboys with 6 shooters over seas... (travel some you'll figure it out) that everyone has guns and we might as well just be one big army.

I don't know it just makes me sad that you think outlawing guns will really stop anything... I'm down for better screening... i'm down for every transfer having to be done by an FFL... He'll i'd even be down for mandatory annual training (that may give some insight into a person's mental state) but outlawing a gun because mean people use it for bad things?? fuck that and fuck those who think its the right thing to do. Next goes fast cars... private aviation is on it's way out the door... fast boats will be next then we'll just be a bunch of boring vanilla suburban douches with no life and no form of expression with so much pent up anger the homicide rate will skyrocket.

I think that if my government wanted to oppress me, there is nothing that me and my safe full of guns could really do about it.
Additionally, if Russia wanted to come onto U.S. soil and take over, if the United States government could not stop them, I don't think my safe full of guns (or my neighborhood militia) could stop them either.

Shrug.

If I set up a bunch of booby traps like in Home Alone, I might have a fighting chance though.

NC state law already requires a permit to buy in order to go through with a private sale (that includes a background check) and the record of the sale and registration are supposed to be kept by the seller for several years.

Now how in the fuck do you expect the government to enforce that?

Quote :

No. The worldwide crime rate can be affected by a myriad of sociological factors included but not limited to the regional outlooks on certain types of crime, family, freedom, ownership, etc. Worldwide, however, the people who commit crimes do share a common trait: they disregard the law.
