Is it bad the guy who's doing my sfi certified cage I want to go back and clean up his welds with my tig?
4/10/2014 8:06:18 AM
is that tube welded to a plate, which is welded to the body? or is that just a cover plate for the hole?I wouldn't do any cover passes - make them brittle[Edited on April 10, 2014 at 8:18 AM. Reason : MSE200/yada dada]
4/10/2014 8:09:41 AM
I wasn't going to do it... I was just unimpressed with that weld lol.Cover passes will just make it worse structurally .
4/10/2014 8:23:07 AM
4/10/2014 8:32:21 AM
Yeah I know
4/10/2014 8:53:26 AM
Welds are being re done by certified welder. I told them it looked like their wire speed was a little high and their weld speed was inconsistent and they were like holy crap this guy knows what he's talking about.

Fighting for 6k from a machine shop for ruining my engine block (mostly just the sleeves).Luckily crank rods and pistons are unscathed just noticed a whole lot of leak by and decided to check it out...Back to square 1 :-(Asked for 4.25 bore... Received 4.37 bore... That wasn't centered in the sleeves[Edited on April 22, 2014 at 9:22 AM. Reason : Douche holes!!!]
4/22/2014 9:20:24 AM
WTFDid they drop your engine? You should post that on all the major forums with the shops information.
4/22/2014 9:22:56 AM
Shop is now out of business my body guy recommended them and is going after the money for the new block for me (technically I bought the bottom end from my body guy and haven't taken delivery)
4/22/2014 10:58:00 AM
thought you were going with a crate motor?
4/22/2014 12:10:46 PM
Ohh hells no... I picked all the parts had the bottom end assembled put the top end on a couple weeks ago rocked a dyno I michigan and then started seeing some blobby/leak down issues and before she hurt too much took her down and found..... This.....It was crower forged/machined rods and custom crank robert pond block robert pond heads worked over by a magician edelbrock victor efi intake also worked over by a magician. Am/was running edelbrock proflow 2+ Efi but I don't know how long that will last if I go to phase two ever...(boost)Harland sharpe rockers with billet stands isky solid roller cam jesel solid roller lifters yadda yadda yadda blah blah blah. She made the power... And now she's gone.... :-/ or her Darton sleeves and two diamond pistons are....[Edited on April 22, 2014 at 1:29 PM. Reason : .]

This isn't an uncommon occurrence.Nobody knows how to work on FEs anymore.
4/22/2014 1:43:13 PM
Engine is at an fe god's shop now being put back together. One of 3 people who build 7-800 hp fes in their sleep so mine should be easy
4/22/2014 3:10:22 PM
Here's hoping!any changes in the setup, or just 'doing it right this time'?
4/22/2014 3:57:24 PM
What brand was the block?
4/22/2014 4:00:20 PM
Really no changes unless I may go to one of those timing belt setups but I doubt it. Part of me wants to ease off on the solid roller and go hydro roller....but then part of me says...... Naaaahhhhh 7000 rims of intermediate block powa is too cool for school.Did find an oil filter adapter with a spare half inch line on it so I don't have to run one of those adapters sandwiched between the filter and the engine to turbo it later. And a bigger pump too.Block was an all aluminum robert pond racing block with his heads too.
4/23/2014 12:25:16 AM
goddamn your sentences are hard to read sometimes sumfoo1 you might want to use some damn punctuation or some shit cause maybe you know i dont know what the blind fuck you are saying.
4/23/2014 12:33:52 AM
Lol yeah I really don't give 2 shits when I'm posting on here.I really should become a more articulate poster... I guess I just write professional discourse all day long and fucking hate that shit so, when I get a chance I just friggin ramble it all out.It doesn't help that 99% of my posts are from an iPhone.
4/23/2014 8:53:37 AM
The best part about running a sleeved aluminum block is... You can run the bore at the ragged edge and not have to worry about tossing the block if something fails... Just $900 to have new sleeves pressed in and bored out...
8/11/2014 7:58:07 AM
so you got your money back?
8/11/2014 10:39:20 AM
Still working on body work but yeah I got my money back engine is done runs good and strong.
8/11/2014 12:25:53 PM
what was the final bore/stroke/displacement?dyno figures?
8/11/2014 12:29:25 PM
4.31 bore 4.375 stroke511 CID 687hp 680ftlbs
8/11/2014 4:27:39 PM
so they sleeved it back down pretty substantially?no lasting block damage at all?
8/12/2014 9:07:07 PM
Yeah the chunks missing were just cause the steel was so thin I could push my thumb through it.... So I did....But yes new Darton sleeved pressed in bored correctly and assembled by Barry robotnik one of the 3 fe gods
8/12/2014 9:14:22 PM
undersquare?what kind of rpm?
8/12/2014 9:25:37 PM
Peak hp is 6300 redline is 7000.
8/12/2014 9:29:58 PM
God part of me has been watching drag week and even though all the top cars are running turbos something makes me want a whipple 4.0 liter hanging out the hood like a 8-71 only with a blower drive systems intercooler sitting under it..
9/9/2014 7:49:54 PM
wow, you actually recovered your money from a shop that went out of business?
9/9/2014 8:39:07 PM
i pulled my contract management wizardrythe shop that has my car is still in binness i paid them to build me the engine...they subbed it out to some shit hole shop out west who built a crap motor and it didn't work...I said... i paid YOU (being the hot rod shop in apex) for a WORKING Engine and have documents as to such... since i have not driven seen or taken possession of engine 1 will will proceed as if engine 1 never existed... now you may use what parts aren't completely fucked by the first build to build engine 2 but the parts that are fucked and the rebuild are not my problem.... what i will say isbret lykins, barry robotnik and jay brown all specialize in these engines and charge about 2k to assemble an engine i would suggest you use one of them to complete it. And so it has been!the thing that sucks about the whole deal is the only reason i didn't do this work myself is that i didn't have a garage... and now i have a 2 car and a 1 car. but ohh well...[Edited on September 9, 2014 at 9:22 PM.
