I never realized that picture was the current cast. I'd always seen smaller ones and didn't recognize the people in it. With the style of furniture and being black and white, I just assumed it was the original cast picture added to the article just for funsies.

they probably picked the furniture style and the b+w lens filter in order to get just that reaction

Pretty cool cast pick. Definitely excited about Serkis...though I don't see him in that pic anywhere...

First shot of the new X-Wing. Not too different from the original but I personally think they should have either just left it alone or had a new fighter all together.

If I buy a car there are different models of the car.

Looks fine to me.

And its 35? years in the future. Realistically it should be way different from ROTJ X-wings.

That's what I was thinking... look at the difference in looks between an F-16 and an F-22. Given that technological development is exponential you'd think they'd have quite a few advancements. But then again these guys were rebels scrounging together whatever they could.

Regardless, its Star Wars, who cares. I'm sure they just wanted to have X-Wings in there since they are fan favorites but still wanted to update them a little bit.

Because they're similar, let's use an F-15 and an F-22, two designs that were introduced 39 years apart.

The difference between those two planes is almost exactly the same as the difference in looks between the ROTJ T-65 and the one in that clip. It's sleeker and more refined, but fundamentally similar.

My big takeaway is that this new X-Wing is very close to the one from ANH production drawings, with the split engines and completely smooth nose cone.

Sidenote: There is no R2 droid in the back of the X-Wing. I'm hoping that is just because it isn't actually flying.

Either those are some really thin wings or they dont split.

Looks more like a Z-95 (x-wing's baby brother).

Willow joined the cast. He was the original Wicket.

Missed this thread discussion in July, but definitely thought it was just a Z-95 with a laser on both the top and bottom of the wings (Z-95 only has one on top)

THAT WAS AMAZIN

I wish that I knew more about the source material and what they are planning to do with it. It seems like a dumb question to ask about a general synopsis of the Star Wars universe after VI, but whatever.

I can't believe the amount of BS people are talking because of a black storm trooper. Are we seriously still that fucked up as a society?

I think I saw something about that guy being one of the main cast so he was probably wearing the suit as a disguise.

But yes we are still that fucked up

Also, the Stormtroopers were cloned from this guy:

So literally every Stormtrooper is in fact black.

FYI, just noticed that Oscar Isaac is the X-Wing fighter. Interesting.

I was hoping that he would be a sleazy friend that turns to betrayal.

And how is that going to help? Attacks would get blocked and probably have the tendency to end up down in the corner... where there's no protection. The first thing that would happen is one of the side emitters would get lopped off.

Pretty sure it's just to up the ante to give the new guy a distinctive look. Style over function. A gimmick.

I've got no issue with the storm trooper being black, I just think its kind of silly how he popped into the frame with a goofy look on his face. It is all serious showing this bleak desert (what I'm assuming is Tattooine) and you are expecting something dramatic and this guy just kinda bounds in. I seriously thought that I had clicked on a parody and it was a Key and Peele skit or something. I would have had the same reaction if the dude was white.

It may have only been a few seconds, but the the end of the trailer with the Falcon flying was already a little too JJ Abrams for me.

nope just my take on it; but, I do think that it is a little more thought out than "he looked goofy" in reference to who will prolly be the lead of this franchise. I bet he was expecting the old Luke to hobble in dramatically on a cane or something. That would have done it. Or, maybe for Han and Chewie to have a comical dispute about how to adjust to the new rebel ammunition belts. That's just a guess.

same, I thought it was a parody in the vein of Michael Winslow in Spaceballs

I thought it was a spin on how Darth Vader wore all black attire and had the thundering voice of James Earl Jones, yet when he took off his helmet he was just an old white man.

my only thing with black stormtrooper is that the camera work doesn't seem very star wars-y i guess. whatever that means.
