Unfortunately not much out there in terms of good horror for werewolf stuff. Obviously recommend An American Werewolf in London as the gold standard for werewolf movies. A recent movie I really enjoyed with an interesting take on werewolf lore was Wer (2013). I will post more suggestions in general horror stuff when I get the chance later.

Has anyone watched The Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House yet?
10/15/2018 4:46:50 PM
it got weird in the final two episodes
10/15/2018 6:04:35 PM
havent watched but this just came out on Netflix instant. Seems to have a key element in common with The Ritualhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1JdWOqc9Q8Apostle

^^^I'm on the second episode. Definitely creepy.I read the book in the 6th grade. Definitely one of the scarier books I've read. I should re-read it to see if it is still spooky.
10/15/2018 8:54:54 PM
I'm 2 episodes in. Really enjoying it so far.
10/16/2018 12:40:45 PM
excited to see the original Halloween at Alamo tonight

I'm five episodes into the Haunting of Hill House and think it's fantastic so far. I saw a critic call it "This Is Us" with ghosts. I can kinda see that. On a personal note -- the sleep paralysis episodes that Nell deals with happens to me at least a few times a year. And it's terrifying as hell, even when you know what's happening. There's this dark, sinister feeling that accompanies the paralysis that feels very, very real in the moment. Like something very bad is about to happen.[Edited on October 16, 2018 at 11:43 PM. Finished up the Haunting of Hill House. Enjoyed the first few episodes, but I agree that the last couple felt off. Overall though I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Damn you TWW. I listened to you and paid $5.99 to watch Hereditary and you didn't even bother to tell me it was just a stupid setup for a prequel/sequel series. No real scares, tons of unanswered questions, and tiny ass scribbles on bedroom walls that I couldn't even read without a magnifying glass! Even stole the dang creepy ceiling thing from Mama. Why do I keep falling for horror movie hype when there hasn't been a great horror film since The Exorcist?Don't waste your time on Hereditary and always listen to skywalkr about all horror movies.[Edited on October 21, 2018 at 8:22 PM. Hill House was awesome!
10/22/2018 8:13:49 AM
^^Did we watch the same movie? Can't tell if trolling or not. Especially if you think that the last good horror movie was the Exorcist.
10/22/2018 10:05:14 AM
^^^clearly doesn't know what they're talking about.
10/22/2018 12:52:27 PM
An American Werewolf in London is good for a "classic" horror movie, but I didn't find it that much better than The Howling. And the ending certainly left something to be desired.I started Hellraiser 3, hadn't seen it before. About half-way in, it's kinda silly, as expected, but okay.I watched the Changeling again with George C. Scott from 1980. It's pretty good. It's done really well.
10/22/2018 4:51:23 PM
Not trolling. Disappointed that I watched an obvious setup for a sequel or prequel, nothing about the movie makes sense otherwise. And fine, I'll add Blair Witch Project to the list of two good horror movies since 1973.
10/22/2018 9:30:50 PM
There are tons of movies that are purely obvious set ups for sequels. Hereditary was not one.
10/22/2018 9:51:22 PM
GoldieO been a moron from the jump. Don't worry about it.
10/23/2018 7:36:37 AM
^ You're even more stupider than a moron. I thought it was ok to share an opinion here, but I guess not. And I still think Hereditary was an overhyped sequel ploy that brought nothing original to the genre.
10/23/2018 8:31:11 AM
That's because you have six inches of bone compressing your brain to a little knot the size of a Corgi's nutsack. It's not okay to share an opinion when you're a drooling shitbird idiot. And you are. You're a fucking idiot. Not just about this, but about this especially. It is the way of the fucking idiot to cite "unanswered questions" as a problem with a movie.
10/23/2018 9:15:12 AM
Well you don't even have a nutsack. Thanks for proving my point, I guess even Entertainment isn't a safe place to share opinions anymore. I am never posting here again.
10/23/2018 9:39:24 AM
Please don't leave Goldie.I tried to watch the second half of Hellraiser 3. It was awful. We ended up fast-forwarding through most of it.
10/23/2018 9:42:04 AM
What questions about Hereditary did you find were unanswered? I watched it like a month ago so the details aren't super fresh in my mind, but I didn't find myself wondering about anything at the end. Admittedly, it did not spoon feed you a lot of the answers but I figured things out after thinking about it for a while.^Hellraiser and Hellraiser 2 are the only movies in that franchise that are any good. The only good part about Hellraiser 3 is when Pinhead goes nuts at that club. Unfortunately the Hellraiser sequels just started getting boring in a bad way while the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movies got cheesy to the point of being funny and people started cheering for Jason/Freddy instead of being scared.I'll give you that the werewolf look in The Howling was decent (any modern day stuff relies too heavily in CGI) but two things that really stand out in An American Werewolf in London are A) The transformation scene/makeup (It actually won an Oscar for best makeup) and B) It actually touches on the psychological aspect of the main character turning into a werewolf over the course of the month. Those crazy dreams he had and visits from his dead friend were great.
10/23/2018 10:16:30 AM
I enjoyed the ending of Hereditary. Maybe there will be a prequel sequel with whatshisname, but the movie stands fine on its own
10/23/2018 10:48:53 AM
The lady explains the entire thing at the end of Hereditary.I love Hellraiser 1 & 2, I don’t really care for the rest of the series except for Bloodline, for some reason I really enjoy watching that one too (although I would not say that it is a good movie)
10/23/2018 11:14:35 AM
^^^ Seriously, I'm never posting again after this post. But maybe I shouldn't have said unanswered questions, more just the amount of things that weren't discussed in the movie but seemed relevant - e.g., the Paimon mythology, the tiny scribbles, was the mother's brother's death related to the cult, why was the daughter so weird if she wasn't possessed since birth, etc. I just didn't think it was that great, but then again I'm also a moron so what do I know.
10/23/2018 11:50:44 AM
Mythology behind Paimon wasn't relevant. All you need to know is that he was a demon that had a cult trying to bring him into our plane of existence. The grandmother was a prominent leader in the cult. The daughter was possessed, but Paimon needed a male host body to actually be fully powerful. The mother removed the grandmother from their lives when she was pregnant with the older brother so she had know way of channeling Paimon into him. The scribbles weren't overtly explained, but could be the little girl doing it in a possessed state. The brother had to be "distressed" to accept Paimon into his body, so that could have been a slow way of introducing paranoia to him.
10/23/2018 12:00:08 PM
Thanks.
10/23/2018 12:02:51 PM
We finished Haunting at Hill House last night, I thought it was excellent. The acting, story, directing were all great. Highly recommendThe single uncut shot in episode 6 was an amazing accomplishment in cinematography. I read an interview with the director who talked about all the setup and things that had to go right to execute it properly. Awesome stuff
10/24/2018 9:48:18 AM
I saw the new Halloween. It was pretty good, for a horror movie.
10/26/2018 1:14:45 PM
^^I'm on episode 5, and I got goosebumps when the kids were in the hotel room and Nell said "that wasn't mommy.Oh and this show makes sleep paralysis far more spookier than any movie about sleep paralysis.[Edited on October 26, 2018 at 2:07 PM. Reason : das]
10/26/2018 2:02:19 PM
saw 'the witch' and 'it follows' this weekend. thought both were very good.
10/29/2018 3:45:56 PM
I enjoyed the new Halloween
10/31/2018 3:34:02 PM
I too enjoyed the new Halloween. So much so that I need to watch it again as I couldn't completely focus and take in the gore scenes when they happened, because.... I think I actually cared about what was going on in the movie still.I definitely don't feel like I want my money back.[Edited on October 31, 2018 at 6:26 PM. Reason : grammah!]
10/31/2018 6:22:02 PM
I thought Hill House was absolutely outstanding.
10/31/2018 10:51:04 PM
Finished Hill House last night. Really great I thought.
11/1/2018 8:58:09 AM
finding decent horror movies on streaming services is so hard. You'd think they would try to really pump up their selection during this time, but no. It's all Scream 4 and Texas Chainsaw 7
11/1/2018 11:12:38 AM
Yeah, we wasted a few nights this month trying a movie that looked decent, only to decide about 30 minutes in that it was going to be terrible and turning it off. I keep reverting back to some of the "classics" (the nostalgia plays a lot into that)
11/1/2018 12:04:15 PM
lol the horror options on Netflix are AWFUL.
11/1/2018 12:22:29 PM
I actually just watched Scream 4 last night. First time since seeing in the theater. It's not THAT bad, and is certainly better than #3. Then again, it doesn't take much for me to want to watch Hayden Panettiere & Emma Roberts on TV for 2 hours
11/1/2018 1:51:42 PM
There's definitely a lot of mediocre stuff on Netflix, but there are---or at least were---a number of good things too.The ShiningThe Haunting of Hill HouseThe InvitationThe RitualIt Follows Gerald's GameTrain to BusanAlthough I realize a few of these are technically thrillers.
11/2/2018 11:07:46 AM
I didn’t realize Train to Busan was on Netflix, that is prob the best zombie movie in the past 5 yrs.
11/2/2018 1:28:17 PM
Yea i was a little surprised at "nothing good on Netflix"Speaking of, anyone watch Apostle yet? Here are a couple netflix lists, Ive seen and enjoyed Hush, Calibre and Ravenous (although Calibre prob isn't "horror" and ravenous is low recommendation)http://www.vulture.com/2018/10/best-netflix-original-horror-movies.htmlA much longer list, I found some gems here http://www.vulture.com/2018/07/the-best-horror-movies-you-can-stream-on-netflix.html
11/2/2018 2:17:09 PM
We watched It Follows this week. It was entertaining but the ending/pay off left a lot to be desiredCool concept, definitely creepy, wouldn't necessarily classify as horror though
11/2/2018 5:09:28 PM
Wait if a relentless ?shape shifting? ?demon? chasing you until it is brutally murders you and you can only delay the death not prevent, isn't horror then what is??Also the tall guy fucked me up
11/2/2018 5:34:09 PM
Yeah...It Follows is 100% a horror movie
11/2/2018 7:02:14 PM
I guess I can see that ^^I thought it was more of a thriller/mystery than straight up horror
11/3/2018 9:57:56 AM
I thought It Follows was a great horror movie.I watched Apostle last week. Pretty good I think. Worth the time to watch it at least.
11/5/2018 11:04:00 AM
Y'all see that Creep 3 is in the works?
11/5/2018 10:56:14 PM
I'm interested to see how they will bring the main guy back to life.
11/6/2018 9:34:51 AM
^^^i, surprisingly, really enjoyed Apostle. One of the better Netflix originals.I started it while my GF was messing around on her phone. She had no idea what it was about and at the end was like WTF did we just watch ]
