Admitting to having popups on your computer is basically admitting to looking at porn / downloading illegal shit on your work computer. People still get popups? Lol what fucking year is this

I was thrown into a promotion recently that involved taking on a shit load of my old boss' responsibility that I didn't want (mainly because its a full time job and he wasn't doing his 'actual' job). I no longer have that extra crap and now I can just do what my actual role is. Thank you God for making this change at my job.

There's this crazy old professor who regularly sends e-mails to the Department Chair and ccs the whole department. The theme of the e-mail is typically "Look at how shitty my calculus students are - for example, see this attachment! [And he's attached some problems where his students have made elementary algebra/calculus mistakes]. Do you intend to continue handing Bachelor's Degrees in Mathematics to students who do math like this, [Department Chair's name]?"

It's really inappropriate, and the e-mails aren't even well-written, but it's pretty funny. And of course he has tenure, so they can't fire him.

Some dude was wandering around on my porch just now and I asked him if he needed help finding something.

Turns out my office use to be his parents' first home in America...and the home he grew up in. They were fresh off the boat from Poland in the 1940s. They ran the downstairs delicatessen (now a college bar). We just talked for about 20 minutes...it was cool as fuck. This is his first time back in Charleston since he was a teenager.

A new commanding general took command of ft Bragg and 18th Airborne Corps today. His first action was to give the entire corps the day off Thursday (Friday was already scheduled as a day off) .

everyone is worried that it's some sort of trap or joke.

My boss had plumbing problems at his house, so he has missed two days in a row. I actually don't mind now that I have a little more experience. We are in our slow time of year, so I just sit there and work, plus play on the computer.

The regional vice president sent an e-mail to my boss today asking why we had been using so much fuel and filling up the parts van on days that we were closed in places that we don't travel too. My boss has been using the company van as his own personal vehicle even though he isn't supposed to. Then he even used the company gas credit card to fill up his girlfriend's car on Christmas Eve. He doesn't enjoy his job either and is always grumpy. I hope this isn't the final straw though. I still need a little more knowledge about the units and how to do a few things in the office before I will be ready to become manager.

Need to keep this thread live. Too many annoyances. We're doing Guinness and/or alcoholic root beer floats for our happy hour today. It's a challenge keeping the beer fridge full these days.

--Also we just got a "DTO" policy basically unlimited PTO based upon what projects we're currently working on. No more counting my precious PTO!!

They moved all of us around, now my office has it's own outer office area with a couch and stuff

(I think it's just because the building is old and in the past that's where my secretary would have been, but it's still nice)

I work in the realm of 'technical services' or whatever you want to call it. Anyways... someone walked over this morning and started a question off "Do you remember last year when Matt asked you" which immediately caused everyone in our corner to laugh.

We were playing around on google map today at work looking at where the near by train/car wreck was. We discovered that on street view there is a photo of the service manager chasing the google maps car and flicking it the bird. Now he's all worried that the owner, or regional manager will come across it someday and fire him

I've still never seen a google map car in person.

We have weekly mixers every Thursday that each department organizes. They have a certain budget for booze, food, etc. Next week my department is doing it and we're flavor tripping:

Our rule is that if you are late, you have to go buy breakfast for everyone. Our one tech was late today because his wife was sick. He stopped and bought us smoked sausage biscuits from Bojangles. I actually returned the favor and bought popsicles for the freezer when I went to lunch.

Dude, 40 popsicles is like $6.00 at BJ's. How is that returning the favor for biscuits for everybody unless you work in an office with like two other people?

It's getting hot out now and the techs get to stand inside a box truck all day no matter what the weather is. That is why people bring frozen treats and soda sometimes. We have 2 people in parts and 3 in service. Service is on call 24/7/365. I'm actually nice and bring donuts every now and then too.

Are you 100% work from home? I will say I get much more heads down work done at home on either nights or Fridays. However when I have design sessions with my team it's much easier to be in person. Pros and cons to both I guess.

I've really come to enjoy being such short walking distance to the Dallas Museum of Art (free) and the Nasher (I bought a yearly membership). I typically swing by one of them once a week on my lunch break just to throw my headphones on and walk through.
