I really liked him in Torchwood. Looking forward to seeing an older doctor again.

Looks awesomeand if it is, they're also going to show it in 3D at a bunch of movie theaters around here the Monday (11/25) after it's on BBC America:http://www.fathomevents.com/event/doctor-who-the-day-of-the-doctor/more-info/details[Edited on November 10, 2013 at 2:32 PM. Reason : they're actually showing it on Sat if you're in one of 11 special cities (New York, etc)]
11/10/2013 2:31:16 PM
might see this in the theatre lol ...
11/10/2013 7:37:10 PM
I thought about driving down to LA so see it in the theater but then realized it would be 3am
11/10/2013 7:45:55 PM
What would be 3 AM? The show would be the global simulcast (7:50 pm GMT) on Saturday the 23rd, which would be just before noon PST.The reshowings on that following Monday are 7:30 pm local time.Speaking of the time difference, though, this means that BBC America begins playing their simulcast on TV Saturday, Nov 23rd at 2:50 pm EST.[Edited on November 10, 2013 at 8:44 PM. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-U3jrS-uhuoAn unexpected mini-episode. Not exactly when I was expecting John Hurt to appear.
11/15/2013 12:32:01 AM
It's nice of them to put the time line together. Now we know when he came in the regeneration pattern (although most folks could have guessed between 8 and 9). But since it was a forced regeneration, it answers the question why Matt Smith still referred to himself as 11. John Hurt doesn't count.
11/15/2013 12:59:01 AM
I think it's more because the Doctor chose to forget about that regeneration. Since that Doctor was not him actively being "The Doctor", he's not counting it as one of the versions of the Doctor.Plus in the naming convention in the credits, Smith is "The Eleventh Doctor" and Hurt is "The War Doctor". Further showing that The Doctor himself doesn't count that as one of the versions of himself since he was going against everything the title "The Doctor" stands for.
11/15/2013 6:43:11 AM
I don't follow various discussions on Doctor Who, so when I saw John Hurt at the end of last season I assumed he was some weird time-anomaly Doctor from the future (post 11th) that for some reason all the other Doctor versions knew about due to his influence in the timeline. Seeing him come directly after 8 does make some sense, but I hope they better explain why Clara didn't run into him in all of her other lives "fixing" things. Not considering yourself "The Doctor" anymore doesn't really work in my mind because the guy going back and changing things wouldn't care which Doctor (even sans-title) he was ruining. Then again, maybe he approved of the War Doctor and let the events in that timeline pass as intended. Or perhaps the forced regeneration (and possible side effects) might be a decent enough explanation.Oh, and "Bring me knitting."
11/15/2013 10:38:44 AM
11/15/2013 1:13:43 PM
Yeah, I got that. But she didn't encounter him in anything that she had to fix, only at the very end once the timelines had been fixed. That means she had to fix something for every previous incarnation but him.
11/15/2013 4:52:40 PM
The war is time-locked, she couldn't get there. But clearly they're going to find a way in for the 50th based on the previews.
11/15/2013 4:54:14 PM
We just bought a house and had DirecTV scheduled to come by today to set up our service, but there's no line of sight. So much for enjoying the Doctor after move-in.

all that just to reintroduce gallifrey and the time lords again...
11/23/2013 11:22:14 PM
I really liked all of it.
11/24/2013 2:48:43 PM
I don't watch this show, but I went to a doctor who party last night. It was pretty good. That show Atlantis that comes on after it was also decent
11/24/2013 3:28:11 PM
"No sir, all 13!" best part
11/24/2013 6:27:06 PM
So how did all the doctors pre- John Hurt know to show up at Gallifrey? Obviously Christopher Eccleston would "remember" to go there, but the others? Also, cool to see Tom Baker show up. I figured he'd make an appearance after that one scientist was wearing his scarf the whole episode.
11/24/2013 6:35:01 PM
He told the TARDIS, the TARDIS exists in all points of time
11/24/2013 6:49:20 PM
11/24/2013 6:58:05 PM
I'm amazed how under wraps they kept everything, from McGann's appearance in the mini episode to Tom Baker.
11/24/2013 7:01:17 PM
I think my favorites are when John Hurt berates the other twoI'm paraphrasing here..."Can't you speak without flailing your arms around?"and "Must you talk like children? What is so terrible about being an adult?"Although I also liked when Matt Smith demanded to be incarcerated with "sand shoes and granddad"[Edited on November 24, 2013 at 9:28 PM. Reason : .]
11/24/2013 9:25:46 PM
Gotta say, this episode really reminded me how much more I liked David Tennant than Matt Smith. Not that Smith is bad, I just feel like Tennant was leagues above him.
11/25/2013 10:18:49 AM
I just loved it all. I've really grown to like Matt Smith and it was cool watching him interact with Tennant. I'm also excited about the search for Gallifrey, I think that could be a great future story arc.
11/25/2013 10:20:50 AM
LOVED this. But...I was expecting John Hurt to be more of an antagonist. He wasn't as mean and crotchety as I was hoping for, especially after the mini episode where he said he needs to be a "warrior."I must have missed something but how did they explain old #4 being there as if he never regenerated?
11/25/2013 1:08:19 PM
I think he mentioned something to Matt Smith's Doctor about going back to some old favorites or something. Meaning in future regenerations he may take on previous looks. So I guess he regenerates to look like the 4th Doctor somewhere down the line and grows old that way or regenerates as an older version and retires to curate the museum.
11/25/2013 1:13:40 PM
^ yeah, this is my understanding also
11/25/2013 1:31:12 PM
"I don't want to go."...right in the damn feels...again.

the 10pm showing at southpoint was fucking PACKED for day of the doctor
11/26/2013 2:49:45 PM
i went to one in salisbury. twas pretty awesome. Eccleston sucks for not partaking
11/27/2013 5:29:36 PM
yeah Eccleston has really got to be regretting that divesting himself from Dr. Who decision, principles or not...]
11/27/2013 8:32:37 PM
What was his reasoning for quitting? Didn't want to be typecasted or something? Aside from being the villain in Thor 2 what else does he have going on these days?
11/28/2013 10:41:03 AM
At the time he said he didn't want to be typecast, but hinted there was more shit going on. In the last few years he's been more vocal about displeasure with show politics and not being able to get along with the show higher ups. Who knows the real story, but I fAil to see why he'd lie when staying with Dr Who would have made him a tremendous amount of money
11/28/2013 3:42:59 PM
Silence & Cyber & Angels...oh my! And don't forget the Daleks...Having all the enemies together in "The Pandorica Opens" was cool and I liked the Cybers vs Daleks in Army of Ghosts/Doomsday, but I'm really curious to see how these 4 groups play out together.[Edited on December 17, 2013 at 9:27 PM. If they really do angels again, I hope its more like Blink. The second time they introduced angels was just complete garbage that re-wrote their back story. The Angels Take Manhattan was decent, though.Oh, and plz to not ruin the Silence. Awesome villain.
12/18/2013 10:27:50 AM
"The Angels Take Manhattan" I, too, really liked the angels in "Blink." The idea of a monster that essentially plays Red Light, Green Light is fascinating and terrifying. They did a lot of neat things in the episode where they played out the "an image of an angel is an angel" idea, too. The stroboscopic advance on the military dudes was awesome.
12/18/2013 10:44:33 AM
12/18/2013 2:33:36 PM
Ok, they only somewhat rewrote the angels back story in "Time of Angels" and "Flesh and Stone". At the very least the overall tone for the angels was completely changed. In Blink the Doctor whimsically describes them as creatures which would "kill you nicely". In the "Time of Angels", they are described as "the deadliest, most powerful, most malevolent life form". Killing people by ripping their throats out . . . why. . . There we also so many issues in those two episodes that just go completely into the lazy realm. All of a sudden the angels can now look at each other without being frozen?

The Doctor is dead. Long live the Doctor.
