At this point I'm convinced it was all a publicity stunt for the show.

That was my hunch from the beginning. Screw both of them if that is the case. I don't watch the show, just tired of hearing about it.

I'm sure there's a Tea Party blog somewhere denouncing this whole thing as a ploy by Obama to distract from Benghazi...

Try thinking for yourself instead of being a bigot because it's written in a fucking book.

Only in bizarro world can you compare actively believing that the ancient storm god of the jews is real with whom you happen to find attractive.

You choose what you believe in, you don't choose whom you find attractive.

So you compared me disparaging Christianity to Christians disparaging homosexuals. Only in a world as fucked up as this does anyone find this compelling.

If your holy book dictated that being black was deserving of condemnation and the worst punishment imaginable, would you defend it?

"Under the racial restrictions that lasted from the presidency of Brigham Young until 1978, persons with any black African ancestry could not hold the priesthood in the LDS Church and could not participate in most temple ordinances, including the endowment and celestial marriage."

Quote :
"A celestial marriage was not required to get into the celestial kingdom, but was required to obtain a fullness of glory within the celestial kingdom.[34] "

Basically discriminatory policies are justifiable religiously until they're no longer socially acceptable, and then it's the correct interpretation of the holy words that changes, not the holy words themselves.

I have a liberal catholic friend who has tried hard to convince me what the Bible really means, and if you understand it right, it's actually a very liberal book all about love, justice, and socialism. I feel like people often mold it to fit their own preferences and prejudices, and that the interpretations they carry around say more about them than the book. I think that's why the focus has been about his comments about gay people rather than his comments concern race.

http://libertyeducationforum.org/issues/12-religion/47-the-bible-tells-me-so.html

Quote :
"In the 19th century, religious leaders frequently used the Bible to justify the institution of slavery. George Armstrong, an influential protestant, wrote The Christian Doctrine of Slavery, an 1857 book that defended the practice of slavery as acceptable in Christianity.[iii] Armstrong argued that slavery was not a “sin or offense”.[iv] He presented several arguments for this position including the fact that neither Jesus Christ nor his apostles taught that slave holding was a sin. Armstrong also argued that slaveholders were commonly welcomed in the church without comment or condemnation.[v] He used portions of the New Testament to justify this position, specifically, Ephesians 6:5-9, which promotes “servants to be obedient to masters.”[vi]

George Armstrong wasn’t alone in using the Bible to justify slavery. Various slavery proponents cited verses such as 1 Corinthians 7:21, Galatians 3:28, and 1 Timothy 1:10 to not only to justify slavery but also to condemn those who spoke out against it as un-Christian.[vii] Proslavery advocates espoused Paul’s message in Timothy 6:1-5. In it, Paul commands slaves to obey even non-Christian masters, to do otherwise is ungodly. Advocates of slavery used this verse to condemn abolitionists[viii]"

Quote :
"Segregationists made similar biblical arguments to oppose integration efforts in the 20th century.[xxix] They used Genesis 9:18-29 to make the case that God approves of segregation. These verses tell the story of the separation of people after the flood through division of the sons of Noah.[xxx] Additionally, the curse of Ham in Genesis, discussed above, was offered to justify segregation.[xxxi] Segregation supporters also used the Genesis story about the confusion of tongues at Babel (Genesis 11:1-9) to argue that God believes the races should be kept separate.[xxxii] Another frequently used Bible passage was Leviticus 19:19 which forbids a mixing of certain animals, plants, or fabrics.

Segregationists used "calls for a pure Israel," as found in Deuteronomy 21, to advocate for a racially separated society.[xxxiii] "

animals can't consent

(this presupposes that animals have certain rights. if they didn't, there wouldn't be anything wrong with it)

Because medical science views beastiality as a pathology and there is no reason to believe otherwise at this point.

This is not the case for homosexuality.

Not to mention that animals cannot consent and consent is one of them the necessary components to a healthy relationship.

Yes, wrong in The eyes of policy. This viewpoint has changed due to better processes and information, and policy should also change.

I'm fairly certain further study isn't going to normalize bestiality.

Nope. It recognizes the processes we have created in our institutions.

It doesn't mean being gay was once ACTUALLY wrong, but you can't fully blame politicians for relying on "expert" sources for their actions, when those sources are wrong.

In the ideal world, changing the expert opinions would trigger an automatic change in policy; in the real world, you have to work from all angles.

Quote :
"According to Robertson, women are old maids at 20. All they do at that point is spend your money on stupid woman stuff."

Quote :
"What you want to do, according to the Duck Dynasty patriarch, is “marry these girls when they’re about fifteen or sixteen.” Robertson is no stranger to doing just that. He began dating his wife Marsha when she was fourteen and he a legal adult. They married two years later when she was just sixteen.

The age of consent in Louisiana is seventeen years old, and it is a crime for anyone regardless of age to engage in sexual relations with a fourteen year old (though there is no word on if they had premarital sex). If a person is under seventeen, it is illegal for anyone more than two years older to have sex with them. No matter what, it is likely (but not proven) that Robertson broke at least one law."

I don't understand why Supplanter and everyone else here, is putting what he says under a microscope. He's an individual on a reality show. Who really cares what he thinks? Why aren't we putting the guy from "All My Babies' Mamas" under the microscope? While he hasn't said anything inflammatory yet, his general attitude toward women, based on his 11 kids with 10 mamas, can't be that great.
