Yes, yes there are. I know one of them and you'd think Detroit had the same crime rate as Cary the way she talks about it. And she doesn't even live in Detroit, she lives in Ann Arbor and sometimes ventures into Detroit to watch the Red Wings play

If anyone feels up to it (and likes paint), where are the high crime areas? Also, does the Lucky Strike Tower rule similarly apply to Duke Chapel? I'll be going to Duke (ECE PhD) starting Spring 2013 and would like to go in with as much information as possible.

Toro was great. I would compare it to Bella Mia over at the Arboretum at Weston in Cary. Really good pizza with inventive toppings. Toro has a good selection of white pizzas. We were planning on doing Whiskey and then Mateo, but Whiskey was closed...so we switched plans and stuck w/ Toro for drinks and food.

How do you figure that? It has a Durham address. Would you call it chapel hill? Or rtp?

It's in the middle of goddamn nowhere on the interstate. It has a Durham address because it has to have an address, but it's not in Durham.

A large chunk of Buck Jones Road is in Cary, but it's all Raleigh addresses because it simplifies postal routes.

The southern Durham city limit is nearly as far from Durham proper as Chapel Hill is. I guess Chapel Hill is Durham, too.

Fun fact: Durham has only 1 incorporated municipality - The City of Durham
Wake County has 12.
Chapel Hill has 3 (I think)
Nash County has 10

If its in Durham County, its Durham.

Even if they did not perpetrate the act in "Durham", they were attempting to flee back into "Durham" when they crashed their vehicle.

My sister and brother in law went to Duke, and I've spent quite a bit of time in the triangle. My favourite memory of Durham was my sister and I driving around, trying to get walk-in appts to get our hair cut. After about our 6th time getting turned down because "we don't cut white people hair" we cut our losses and went and got those huge fuggin burritos at that place upstairs.

I lived less than a mile from Southpoint (near the corner of 54 and Fayetteville) for 3 years. The entire time, I told people that I lived "in Durham" because I lived in the city limits, had a Durham address, Durham utilities, and paid vehicle tax in Durham county.

Little did I know I was wrong the ENTIRE TIME.

So in that case, where does Durham start? Not at Woodcroft/Woodlake. Those are nice neighborhoods. Farther up Fayettville Street? How far? MLK? You know the Chris Rock bit about streets named MLK, though it doesn't really apply right there either.

And for God's sake someone tell me where I lived...Maybe I don't actually live in Richmond right now either? I live within 3 miles of the state capitol, but my neighborhood doesn't feel dangerous at all!

Most realtors in the area will respond with a knowing nod if you say you're looking for a place "South of MLK." It most certainly does apply there.

The Kroger on MLK is actually on the border of Hope Valley, at the dead end of Roxboro. It is their 'neighborhood' Kroger. But you will be hard-pressed to find any Hope Valley people in that Kroger. They go south the the one on 54.

The only reason anyone in that area travels North is to get to downtown. Some will take the long way around, and others will simply hope they catch every green light on Fayetteville, and not because of time.

My brother lives in that area. It may have been nice 15-20 years ago, but those are not nice neighborhoods now.

It's not like it instantly turns into the ghetto, that's all I'm saying. I'm familiar with the area. I'm familiar with Fayetteville street. That was the only route I ever took to go downtown because taking 147 was a stupidly long detour. It's not that scary. Would I want to live there, not really, but you're not taking your life in your hands or anything. I think people who "hope they catch every green light" are basically scared of black people.

I can't speak to Woodcroft directly, but I had a friend who lived in Woodlake. Was sometimes there multiple times a week. Often ran on the track around the lake. And while it wasn't "nice" as in upscale fancy, it was a well-kept neighborhood with some amenities that seemed pleasant and solid. The kind of place I'd feel safe living.

there's nothing ghetto about woodcroft. It's an older planned community that doesn't look as polished as a Cary subdivision. I spent a lot of time there over the last 8 years as a large portion of med students and residents live there for the affordability and proximity to UNC/Duke. It's not ghetto in the least, although you may disagree because there are OMG black people living there.

I have no idea what color the people are, I just now that most of the houses need to be painted and the lawns mowed. It all looks old and tired.
