^What was dumb about that quote?
1/23/2012 11:42:45 PM
"UVA" and "really good" should never be in the same sentencewell coached, yesbut there is only one "really good" team in the ACC, and to even call them "really good" is a bit of a stretch
1/23/2012 11:46:07 PM
Okay I guess. Certainly wasn't the dumbest thing from that page.

so can i preemptively bitch about the refs not letting us play or
1/24/2012 11:40:11 AM
so i'm going to the game with some friends. i'm trying to find a red "Go to Hell Carolina" t-shirt somewhere that I can buy in time to wear to the game, assuming it's not > $20. i'd heard Alumni Hall at Crabtree sold those, but I called and they're out.So, anyone know another place that might have them? Can't order anything online at this point and have it before the game.
1/24/2012 12:06:12 PM
Well, you can wear it but they might not let you in. If they do, pray that Roy only has you escorted from the building in handcuffs and doesn't pull out his bb gun. God help you!
1/24/2012 12:10:00 PM
Just wear it under a UNC shirt, then rip that shit off Hulk style. Wolf in sheep's clothing.
1/24/2012 12:12:40 PM
uh, they'll definitely let me in. i'll have a jacket or something on over it. and that isn't the point. the point is i don't have that shirt yet and i need it if i'm going to be able to wear it to the game...
1/24/2012 12:13:15 PM
I was thinking about wearing my old "This is not red" shirt to the game, but I'll probably stick with my red ncsu polo
1/24/2012 12:19:26 PM
if Harrison Barnes gets on a wide open fast break on Thursday, you guys think he'll be able to muster up enough of a vertical jump to dunk it? That is if he's quick enough to get down there before all 5 of our guys use their superior quickness to catch up to him and easily block his shot attempt.
1/24/2012 12:20:27 PM

i actually didnt realize he was out for the year, so i dont think he was responding to the other part of the post
1/24/2012 1:27:25 PM
yeah i wasn't replying to any of the barnes shit. it's just perplexing that people still talk about vandy playing even when it's been weeks since he's registered a minute of playing time.

1/24/2012 1:47:58 PM
All sarcasm aside, Barnes weaknesses are well documented. Just look at his game logs. Very few assists. He's not an elite rebounder, at least for someone his size. He's got [one] double double on the year. He's an elite shot maker and a great finisher in transition, that's about it. He doesn't give them anything that Wayne Ellington didn't. That doesn't mean he's a marginal player or anything, but he's not the superstar that he was hyped up to be either.
1/24/2012 1:52:21 PM
I swear to everything I own that I will heckle the ever loving shit out of Mike Patrick if I see him in person

Barnes = wayne ellington is a decent comparison that I haven't thought of yet, but it does make sense. Hell, they are even both handsome guys, too.

Dexter Strickland hit zero 3-pointers this season before being injuredwhat kind of starting shooting guard on a top-tier basketball team has zero 3-pointers in 461 minutes of playing time?I expect Bullock to drain one within the first minute of the game Thursday

I would like this game thread to be as epic as this older football game thread: http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=604829Just looking through the old posts and pictures makes me nostalgic. Need the post-game TWW optimism to carry through.Trying to get my deposition rescheduled so I have a chance of actually seeing this game.

why do people pronounce his name bull-lock?really grinds my gears

Breakdown:Harrison Barnes is NOT the main concern in this game. He gets his points by using his size to rise up and shoot over people. We have two lengthy perimeter players who can guard him relatively effectively. He's still probably going to get his points off efficient shooting, but he isn't the kind of player that can terrorize you and single handedly take over the game like Jason Williams, Grant Hill, or even Joe Forte. You're not going to completely take him out of the game and you shouldn't try to. Get your hand in his face and don't let him score 30+ but don't have breakdowns defensively because you're giving him too much attention.Henson and Zeller: These guys are absolute monsters on both ends and we don't matchup well at all here. We have only 3 legit post players now with Vandy out (who had a great game last year against UNC), all of whom are very foul prone. The remarkable thing about Henson is that he's one of the best shot blockers in the country, yet he almost never fouls because his arms are so long. These are the guys we have to gameplan around. They are also elite rebounders so we will have to battle these guys for 40 minutes without fouling. If we could get one of these guys in foul trouble it would be huge because there is a big dropoff between these All-ACC'ers and their highly touted freshman McAdoo who has been a big bust thus far.Kendall Marshall: This is another key matchup. Marshall is highly overrated and is really their biggest weakness. We haven't had a ton of success guarding PG's but Lorenzo should be pumped for this game to show the world he's the better of the two. Marshall doesn't present a scoring threat and he is very turnover prone. He is a very good passer but a lot of his assists come off of mismatches created by UNC's elite athleticism and skill. IF we allow Marshall to have a big game, we're probably done. He is the one position where we have the ability to create a mismatch for UNC. Also, he has no true replacement so he may wear down over 40 minutes, especially if we are making things difficult for him.Bullock/Hairston: Unfortunately, there is virtually no dropoff from Strickland (out for the season) to Bullock and Hairston. Bullock is a terrific shooter and Hairston is a great slasher/scorer. These guys can present real problems for us particularly since CJW has an injured shoulder and we may use Wood some of the time on these guys if CJW is covering Barnes. Personally, I don't think either of them really have the foot speed to stay with Hairston, but I think both are capable of guarding Bullock. I'd use Wood on Bullock and CJW on Barnes, but switch Wood to Barnes if Hairston is in the game. Because Wood is white many have formed the opinion that he is a terrible defender. While he had some bad games after his ankle injury, he's really been an adequate defender his entire career here. Remember, we used him to effectively guard Sylvan Landesburg two years ago. What we need to do:1) Stay out of foul trouble. We can't afford to send guys to the bench with foul trouble. CJL/Howell/Painter need to combine for 120 minutes which means we need two of them on the floor at ALL times. This game isn't winnable if TDT has to give us 8-10 emergency relief minutes. If we get in foul trouble on the perimeter I actually think Tyler Harris has potential for this game. He has the length to contest shots, he rebounds his position, and he could make a shot in a pinch.2) Rebound. UNC isn't an elite offensive team if you take away their offensive rebounding ability. However, defensively they are still top notch and we rely on offensive rebounding to generate a lot of our points. At the very least we have to break even in rebounds in this game and to pull an upset we likely need to beat them on the glass.3) Shoot the J. We rely heavily on inside scoring that simply isn't going to be there against a team full of shot blockers and rebounders. If you think back to the last few years a lot of our offense has been generated by Javi Gonzalez and Lorenzo Brown against UNC. Lorenzo has got to be aggressive offensively he can't afford to be a game manager against Carolina because we don't have anyway to generate enough good looks without him. Scott Wood has been horrible in all four games against UNC. That isn't a coincidence, Carolina knows they can guard us inside so they divert extra attention to make sure he isn't the one that beats them. Wood needs to find where he can get his shots. He doesn't have to score 20, but in four games against UNC he is averaging 3.75 ppg on 16% FG. We obviously can't win with that. CJ Williams has also been mostly a non-factor against UNC. He's got to find his shots out there.4) Turnovers. Carolina doesn't force turnovers either this year, but the difference is that no one on their team commits them except Marshall. We absolutely can't give UNC an extra five possessions in this game and expect to have any chance on the road.5) Tempo. After decades of being one of the slowest teams in D1, we are finally pushing the tempo this season. That's great. As a good team, you want to force the tempo. But this ain't the game to do it. When you're up against a superior team you want as few possessions as possible so that the law of averages doesn't work to their advantage. On top of that we don't have the depth to hang with UNC and foul trouble is one of our main concerns. Even UNC took the air out of the ball one year against Duke when they knew they had the inferior team. If we want to win, we need to play methodically.
