I am going to try that too on a personal line. ^

Sounds like a great idea in theory, but so did Boost mobile and that did not really catch on like I thought it would.

Here is the calculator for the new plans.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/splash/shareEverythingCalculator.jsp

Also after working for Verizon for 3 years and knowing very intimately how they operate, I can tell you for sure they are not throwing the hot spot feature in for free just to be a swell company, they know every kid/teen with an iPhone or Droid is going to buttrape their family plan data usage using the hotspot.

No one goes over minutes anymore, they are losing revenue on overage charges, they hook you in with these streamlined plans your needs go up, you run data over, they make a killing.

Once again Verizon strikes as the only wireless company with any business sense.

i'm done paying for internet three damn times. I have my internet through roadrunner, and that's all I need. Paying 30 bucks for internet on each of our phones is just ridiculous. (more than what roadrunner costs!)

I'm on my own plan, so it appears I'll be dumping Verizon soon.

"holy shit...my legacy alltel plan with just one smartphone and my wife's dumbphone is right around $105 per month after taxes and fees and is:

1200 anytime minutes (shared)
1000 text/picture/video (per phone)
10 family/circle/whatever numbers (shared, but gives us free calling to these numbers)
unlimited nights/weekends minutes
unlimited data (my phone only)

we use 200-300 anytime minutes per month (we don't have a home phone) and around 150-200 texts between us...i use 1-2GB per month in data (more whenever i go to the beach or travel and turn it into a 4G wifi hotspot)

so if i wanted a 2GB plan and my wife continued having a dumbphone, that'd be $60 + $40 + $30 = $130/month before taxes and fees...so about $140/month after? that's independent of the $30 one-time "fuck you for upgrading" fee if i (or she) wanted a new phone, too

fucking verizon...i still have a year left on my contract (though 9-10 months before i'm eligible for a renewal)...i suppose i'll be shopping around for another carrier at that point (or hoping republic wireless is up and running)"

Only if you upgrade and sign a new contract. And they will still have the current per line tiers ($30 for 2gb, etc)

im on a family plan w/my sis and mom. Sis and i both have smartphones (droid original) and mom has basic phone, doesn't text. Our bill is about 180/mo. Carolyn has unlimited texts, i have 500/mo plus unlimited verizon texts. Combined sis and I never have gone over 1GB data usage.

whats our new bill gonna be now? a brazillion?

^once VZW releases shared plans, you'll be forced onto them when you sign a new contract. Until then, you can stay on your current plan. If you value your current plan, renew before the change

They're not going to touch existing plans. So assuming you already have unlimited, you can upgrade between now and the cut-off date and keep your current data plan. Then you should be good for the remainder of your contract. If you wait until after, you'll need to switch to one of the current tiered plans or switch to the Share Everything plan. You can also pay full retail or buy from craigslist/ebay after the change and keep your unlimited plan. No guarantee on how long Verizon will allow that though.

^ buying from CL is my plan ATM...sure, i'll never have a "new" phone (because those will be stupid expensive), but i might be able to nab a better phone and sell my thunderbolt for a net cost of $150-200 or so and it's not MUCH different than signing a new contract

Doesn't affect me that much. I can still get 4GB + a smart phone for $110 before my discount or tax, which will end up being the same as I pay now or less.

I guess it's when you start having to pay $40 per smartphone that it starts adding up. One nice part is that you'll be getting unlimited minutes and texts with that $40...you'd just need a way to watch usage on the kids. I think they already have alerts in place right?

It seems you missed the point of my post. I was talking about me. I don't care about YOU

On another topic, in a year when I upgrade to the latest and greatest, can I stay on my current 900 minute + 4GB plan, or will I have to switch to the $40 (smartphone) + $XX (data) system?

Maxx by far, they are the same except the maxx has double the battery capacity. Ive got the razr and regret not having the extra capacity after a few weeks already, its only going to get worse as I use it more. Only upside it doesnt feel like a brick in my pocket, i can only imagine the heft of the maxx after adding a case or otterbox.

I love my Maxx. It usually has at least half a battery left by the end of the day. It's not that much thicker than the Razr.

It doesn't really feel much thicker. The Razr is 9mm thick at it's thickest (near the top) and 7mm elsewhere. The maxxxx is 9mm the whole way. People bitching over this 2mm are stupid.

Maxxxx is by far the way to go. My sister's Razr couldn't last a day (and won't last but a few hours now - bad battery). I can go 2 days with moderate useage.

The dude at the store tried to talk me into a regular razr so hard...said it had a battery software update a couple of weeks ago amd was only 4 hours behind the maxx now... Everything I've read said the maxx is way beyond everything else.

And then I get to wait a year to get Jelly Bean.

Also you should be able to find the Razr ICS update online.

Just go to settings>about phone>system updates

It should be available for manual download. I'm hoping ICS comes out sooner rather than later in Q3 for my Bionic.

My bill dropped $50 with the new plan.

Before
Talk N Text 900- $89
Unlimited Smartphone - $30
Mobile Hotspot - $30
Total: $149

Now
Share Everything Smartphone $40
2GB Data - $60
Total $100

The overage rate is $15 per GB, so on the off chance I go over here and there it is still cheaper. Plus I never have to update that stupid fucking friends and family list again!!!!!

Also, I picked up a refurbished network extender for $99 (reg $249) so I have perfect signal in my house and basement now.
