I looked at this way:Option 1) There is a way for Abe to know if they killed them or not. I can think of a few ways that this could happen.Option 2) It sort of just takes care of itself. If the looper kills the target, they get the gold. If the looper takes the gold and then let's the guy goes, he gets the gold. So in that sense it's even. However, if he takes the gold and doesn't kill the person, AND then Abe finds out for any reason what so ever, the Looper will be killed by Abe most likely. There really is no benefit to letting the targets live, where as there are extreme risks in doing so. I mean, these guys aren't the most scrupulous. They're contract killers afterall. The only upside to letting them go is something based on morals, which they're lacking.

Just because it is difficult to get away with murder in the future doesn't mean people stop killing each other. Really just means people stop killing people in a premeditated fashion, unless they're employing a time machine and a looper.I thought it was a solid flick, watched it on Starz last night.

I always wondered why they had to kill his wife and mess up his house and everything to begin with. If he knew they were coming I'd think they'd offer the option of him surrendering peacefully and letting them kill him painlessly while giving all of his money to his family or something. Seems like if you know they are just gonna come and try to mess up everything like that it would just encourage you to try and get away.
