I'm totally getting a BBQ egg roll.
10/11/2013 11:05:39 AM
That does sound good.
10/11/2013 12:18:50 PM
I will be at the State Fair in an official capacity on the first Saturday night; if you find me, PigPen will be set free.
10/12/2013 10:06:14 PM
^Wandering magician, or clown on stilts? Will investigate.
10/13/2013 12:00:16 AM
Mmmmmmmm
10/17/2013 12:51:53 PM
Imma eat some of those peanut butter bites. Where are they?
10/18/2013 10:36:56 PM
I REALLY want some fair foodNone of that gross ass fried candy shit, though.I WANT SOME MEAT INSIDE ME
10/18/2013 10:38:51 PM
I want a turkey leg too
10/18/2013 10:39:46 PM
I tried the Gator Bites. They were pretty good. I don't care for a lot of Cajun Seasoned Fried Dough, but the texture of the meat was nice and it was a pleasant taste.
10/19/2013 7:22:54 PM
I have seen some of the most glorious mullets ever from the bluebird cupcake booth. God bless 'Merica!!
10/19/2013 8:19:22 PM
I got a cheese steak, ribbon fries, and funnel cake at the fairI brought home maple cotton candy, honey cotton candy, and apple cider cupcake and key lime cake push up from bluebird cupcakes!
10/20/2013 2:48:12 PM
I try a new fried food every year, these year was Reese's. Not bad. Would eat fried again.

Y'all should all come eat at St. Paul's Christian Church's fair booth. It is in the strip with all of the other church restaurants near Dorton arena. A bunch of the proceeds (percentage is unknown exactly until total revenues are known at the end of the fair) go to support local ministries and charities. Some include Warmth for Wake, the Helen Wright women's shelter, food bank of eastern north carolina and some others. We are open for breakfast, lunch, and supper. We serve normal breakfast foods (eggs, biscuits, ham, etc), and for lunch and supper we have hamburgers and hot dogs (the red ones) as well as chicken tenders, chicken pot pie, and bbq. In addition we have collards, boiled potatoes, green beans, black eyed peas. If you come next friday, saturday, or sunday morning I will cook your eggs for you any way that you want (as long as that is scrambled or fried).

You have to tell me these thing before I go! I try to put wolfwebber run business and other local organizations on my list of places to spend my money.I even added a tip on foursquare for the NC State Fair to stop by the bluebird cupcake stand in the Scott Building.[Edited on October 20, 2013 at 7:03 PM. 10/20/2013 7:03:09 PM
I will be at the beach with my momma.
10/20/2013 7:04:02 PM
Thanks Elise we appreciate it!!
10/20/2013 7:05:45 PM
And I appreciate my sweet treats!

I don't get the appeal of buying some of this stuff at the fair when you can buy variants at good places all around Raleigh for a reasonable price and not have to eat it with meth addicts and cigarette butts thrown in it. Regardless of the food itself, there's no place I'd rather not partake of food than at the State Fair.Unless you're getting the ham biscuits from the Kiwanis (you know, a real, legit food prepared by upstanding citizens not willing to try bath salts). Those are the shit.Really anything fixed by a church or club is great. The midway food will give you hepatitis and the money goes to nothing worthy at all. [Edited on October 20, 2013 at 10:31 PM. I will definitely be hitting up the bluebird cupcakes again this year maybe even twice since they were so delicious last year
10/21/2013 8:27:07 AM
I went yesterday, maybe I remember it differently, but it seemed like the fair is nothing but food vendors now.I mean, cheese steaks are good and all, but dial it back a little.
10/21/2013 8:52:25 AM
I was disappointed by the amount of food repeats. Not a ton of variety. I was a terrible person and ate my apple cider cupcake after breakfast his morning. Holy cow it was yummy. All three components were a home run, caramel icing, apple filling, and spice cake. So good.
10/21/2013 8:59:48 AM
I think thats the one I had last year and it was indeed amazing! My main goal is the cupcakes and one of those BBQ eggrolls
10/21/2013 9:09:30 AM
10/21/2013 9:38:04 AM
And the biscuits are now $2.50, and a water is $1.50. I could swear that only 2 years ago the biscuits were only $1.50 and a water $1.
10/21/2013 12:13:04 PM
The new ham biscuit champion is the Farmers Market Restaurant trailer. The only reason to go to restaurant row any more is to hear the PPPPIIIIEEEEEE recording.

I couldn't find the BBQ egg roll either. =[Edited on October 21, 2013 at 8:15 PM. Reason : ?]
10/21/2013 8:14:34 PM
I saw the signage for the egg roll BBQ thing, and it wasn't a very prominent sign nor a big booth. I can't remember where it was, but I think near the Al's Fries on the way down the bottleneck.
10/21/2013 8:52:35 PM
something must be wrong with me...i get all my food paid for at the fair, yet there is really nothing there i want to eat :/
10/21/2013 9:52:51 PM
You know, I was seriously looking forward to the things I was going to eat there and we looked and looked and ended up eating mundane stuff. All the good stuff was brought home. I really wanted to try those fried peanut butter and bacon bites with jam dipping sauce, but we never found them. They may not even have made it to our fair. I miss the days when there was something new and outrageous each year. Now it is just deep fry premade stuff or put it on a krispy kreme.
10/21/2013 10:05:59 PM
For future reference, Woody's always flies a red blimp about 50-60' above their booth. There's only one, since they're a local joint. Any weird new buffalo/BBQ thing is always theirs. Couple of years ago it was buffalo chicken rangoons.
10/22/2013 1:07:54 AM
^those sound amazing
10/22/2013 1:22:02 AM
person on wral.com said to look for the "giant inflatable Gatorade bottle on top of the tent" for the bbq egg rolls
10/22/2013 2:51:42 AM
The woody's stand is near my church restaurant near dorton arena. If you are facing all the church places go to the left end of that row and then turn right. It should be right in that area on your right.
10/22/2013 6:37:05 AM
Had a great Cinnamon Bun from that stand that is outside, near the breezeway where the Ventrilaquist and the magician/yo-yo/comedian guy performs. It was the most Cinnabon like Cinnamon Bun I have ever had ... and since I cant seem to find a Cinnabon in any airports anymore, I will start looking forward to this every year.

10/22/2013 8:25:23 PM
You sure can! Thomas should be there too.
10/22/2013 8:49:14 PM
FWIW the red velvet cake battered fried oreos with cream cheese drizzle take the fried oreos up a notch.
10/22/2013 9:23:50 PM
Apex Lions Club has country ham on sweet potato biscuits, which are pretty good (though pretty crumbly as well)
10/22/2013 9:52:42 PM
the bbq/slaw eggroll was pretty awesome
10/23/2013 8:54:13 PM

10/25/2013 3:26:22 PM
^^^Wow fuck you, now I want to try the cheesesteak eggrolls and deep fried pumpkin pie. Haven't gotten up the stomach to go this year yet. Maybe I'll survive.
10/25/2013 7:18:01 PM
I was too full to try the BBQ egg roll but I found the standTake a right before the entrance to the dirt track thing and its on the right a little ways down
