i like that everyone gets a little taste of each other like this...should make for a good season.

Here's my $.02 on the game last night. The intensity in the 1st quarter was reminiscent of the NIT game vs. Marist in Reynolds Coliseum. Even before the game started, warmups were about as rowdy as you could possibly imagine, with every player throwing down insane dunks. When the game started, it was pure NCSU vs UNC. The entire building boiled over with rivalry and it stayed that way the entire first half. John Henson looked really really good on Tracy, and threw down a put back dunk that about made all of Walmart Nation & the gym collapse on each other. All 3,100+ were on edge the whole first half. 1) Ryan Harrow is the solution to our PG woes. He has UNREAL quickness and he about froze my eyes in the seats a few times on his cross ups. 2) Tracy did not look good, but i kind of expected that in a game where there are no offensive plays. He is a methodical block scorer and not one that gets up and down as fast as everyone else who was out there. I think Henson easily proved that he is a way more versatile player.3) Harrison Barnes was the best player on the court and it wasn't even close. The kid is absolutely unbelievable. Prepare yourself for the DickyV worship. Reggie Bullock looked really good too. Unfortunately, there is no way UNC will even come close to being like they were last year. They have ungodly talent.4)CJL has unbelievably long arms. like, arms. His hands are nearly below his knees when standing straight up. He is surprising good off the dribble full court.5) CJ Williams didn't belong on the court with these guys, period. I forsee his minutes decreasing significantly. I honestly think this is the year Duke, UNC, NCState finish 1-2-3 in the ACC. Duke's Kyrie Irving was unbelievable, and Miles Plumlee was a beast.

so who else played with the Stackhouse team that made them so good? there were only 3 UNC recruits/players vs 5 of ours. It sounds like Justin Watts was a complete non-factor as he is not being mentioned whatsoever.
7/14/2010 9:28:49 AM
Reggie Bullock (UNC)Harrison Barnes (UNC)John Henson (UNC)Justin Watts (UNC)yea it was pretty much UNC's 3 vs NCSU's 5, and UNC won

unc is going to be dirty this year, unfortunately.henson looked good....reaaal good.

its hard to put alot of stock into these games. I'm sure K, Roy, and Sid all have told the players to not try/do certain things, according to a recent interview, Lowe doesn't even like the summer leagues (players pick up bad habits).WRALsportsfan has 7+ min of game action, really good quality, and what i saw was guys who would probably never try 1on1 stuff doing it and there was absolutely NO blocking out on the weakside which led to alot of easy dunks/putbacks.
7/14/2010 11:11:30 AM
Kyrie Irving and Seth Curry both put up around 30 points in their respective games. They (and Duke) are going to be very very good next year. Possibly even better than they were this past year. Carolina is going to be really good this year too. I think it will be Duke, Carolina and NCSU in the top 3 of the ACC
7/14/2010 11:55:24 AM
the triangle is not going to go 1-2-3 in the ACC this yeartop half sure but cmon
7/14/2010 12:02:28 PM
If we make the tournament I'll be happy camper. Duke/UNC will be 1/2, but a top 3 finish for us is a streeeeetch. Lol at anyone expecting us to exceed expectations.
7/14/2010 12:29:02 PM
the ACC is gonna be wide open this year IMO. The league is gonna look a lot different. I can see Duke in the top 2, but UNC - not so much. They'll get back in the top half with us, but I'm not calling them a LOCK for top 2.
7/14/2010 12:35:20 PM
all im saying is that while i agree top 6 is definitely more realistic for us, i think the talent is that good for Duke & UNC to finish 1-2, and i think we're capable of finishing 3. i'm not setting my bar there by any means, believe me...i'm no noob to ncsu athletics. top 6 finish in the ACC and a few wins in the ACCT and i think we'll be a <10 seed in the NCAA.baby steps though.a lot of that has to do with the other ACC teams at the moment...WF, BC, Clemson w/ coaching changes (off the top of my head), VT should be pretty solid, & Miami could be strongTop 4________DukeUNCVTNCSUMiddle Third:________MiamiMarylandClemsonFSUBottom 3rd________GTBCWFUVA[Edited on July 14, 2010 at 1:04 PM. ^I think you're underestimating what guys like Barnes and Bullock can do for UNC.Last year, UNC actually had a lot of decent "parts"...but just nothing to build those parts around. And although Henson is a star, big men still need guards to get them the ball and guards that will keep defenses from completely collapsing on them (plus he was a freshmen).Barnes and Bullock will give them explosive perimeter players who can shoot the ball...which they pretty much had neither of last year. The only thing I see holding them back is their interior, but they'll still have enough talent to finish at or near the top of the ACC.I think you could have put a sophomore Ellington on last year's UNC squad and they finish in the top 3 of the ACC. They didn't have anything close to that last year. Now they basically have two.
7/14/2010 12:58:31 PM
^plus its gonna take 1 injury to one of their bigs and they are thin as ice up front. Zeller is good for at least 10 games missed due to injury. He's also playing for the USA team this summer.
7/14/2010 1:08:49 PM
I don't give a fuck if Bullock scores 100 in a summer league game, VT's backcourt is STILL better than anything UNC will put on the floor this season.
7/14/2010 1:14:42 PM
Team defense (or defense at all) doesn't exist in these games, so Bullock backing down Harrow is meaningless, and Harrow does need to put on some weight, and he will (McCaffery, Collins, Wojo, Paulus, Scheyer all had squat for athleticism/size but K built "team defense" to shield their weakness as best he could). Otherwise Tracy Smith would be an All American seeing how there are probably three guys in the ACC that could hold him under 25 points if he's being checked by one guy. We've read about how we're going to have some guys get very few minutes this year, we know who they are, but UNC will have it just as bad, and chemistry was a point of emphasis for them last year, and their guys are all stars in high school. McDonald/Strickland/Graves will be seeing a lot of small forward time, going to be fun to watch a starter, and two Soph's compete for one spot. Roy should get a PhD in behavioral sciences if they get along. Roy's thin in the post, with 3 guys at 6'8" or better. Cant recall too much about that transfer from Bama and what he brings to the table, but another big body will help them tremendously. I wonder what Roy would give to trade out Strickland/McDonald for the Weir twins from a lineup standpoint. UNC is loaded with on paper talent and depth at the 1/2, the 4 and 5 are talented with no depth, foul trouble or an injury wipes all that out, and Zellar hasn't gone 10 games without getting hurt.I still think all the NCSU/UNC talk is moot until I see Duke struggle

Not sure if you guys have seen this link: http://www.wralsportsfan.com/ncsu/video/7957249/ Seven minutes of raw footage from last night, pretty good. Can someone please list the names of the players corresponding to their jersey numbers, I'm having trouble telling who's who. Thanks.

Don't delude yourselves -- UNC is going to be dirty next year.
7/14/2010 7:47:58 PM
UNC lost their two best players from a team that lost 17 games. they add 1 amazing wing, a really good shooting guard, and a meh PG. they have two guys in the post who weigh a combined 200 pounds, with little depth if they get in foul trouble. I guess we'll see.
7/14/2010 8:57:48 PM
^^^why didn't you wear red?
7/14/2010 11:18:56 PM
i wore my white ncsu adidas coaches shirt. i wanted to wear it cuz i knew itd be hot in there, and its a dry fit. it was a wise move.

There are rumblings that McGladrey vs Stackhouse rematch next Tuesday at 9PM.
7/15/2010 7:53:00 PM
^oh shit, according to the schedule posted on the Pro-Am website, youre right
7/15/2010 8:10:58 PM
anyone have the link for tonight?

i couldn't make it on tuesday either... may have to go to that one.hopefully i'll awkwardly spot ^.]
7/15/2010 9:48:47 PM
from the live feed tonight it sounds like CJL and Uchebo basically dominated Plumlee. did anyone go that can verify?
7/15/2010 9:52:00 PM
^^ I'm down
7/15/2010 9:53:11 PM
^^ Plumlee had a pretty shit game. Seth Curry twisted an ankle about halfway into the 1st quarter, didn't come back in (I'm guessing he's fine though), only made one shot.Harrow continuously made whoever was guarding him 1 on 1 look stupid. There were less than 100 people in there for the last game, everybody dipped after game 3.]
7/15/2010 11:14:35 PM
Went to the game tonight. McGladrey took the win with a explosive 4th quarter. First quarter was all McGladrey with a few highlight plays. They ran the score up to 20-13 or so by quarters end. Harrow Leslie and Brown spent the next two quarters trying to throw alley-oops to each other without success. They gave up the lead by halftime and were losing by 2-4 points until midway through the 4th quarter when they hit a couple 3s played some defense and then went completely circus circus on the other team.Midway through the 4th they had a string of about 5 defensive stops in a row that lead to long breaks with some amazing dunks. The best was a Brown to Harrow off the backboard to Leslie who jammed it in.Ryan Harrow is REDICULOUS. 1. Puts up threes with no effort - and makes them.2. Face up skills are nasty3. Can dunk. It is amazing to see his small frame dunk. He may have had more dunks than Leslie,His best play of the night was draining a 3 in the corner before stealing the inbounds and dunking it for 5 points in about 3 seconds.CJ Leslie has unbelievably off putting body language. Total too-cool for school attitude. Can attack the rim with a vengance though. He spent a lot of time at the free throw line. Brown was pretty good too had a couple turnovers but hit a 3 and had some dunks. Leslie was the best player on the court throughout, but Ryan was the star and had the crowd buzzing at the end of the night if that makes sense. People expected what they saw from Leslie, but Harrow was shocking especially with such a small body.Uchebo looked OK. Hands are not great at times. Not much offensive game from him yet. He did have 2-3 wide open dunks, but no post moves. Did not dominate Plumlee. In a earlier game Johnny Thomas scored a lot of points on a terrible team. His knee appeared to be killing him late in the game but he kept scoring. None of the UNC guys played for Stackhouse except Justin Watts, so that was lame. Richard Howell loafed the entire game and piled up a ton of fouls. He was definitely dogging it. I dont necessarily hold it against him. none of the games had true intensity.[Edited on July 15, 2010 at 11:31 PM. Reason : ]
7/15/2010 11:26:33 PM
Another interesting play was Plumlee completely stuffing Leslie on a drive to the hole. Leslie ended up on his back....and somehow the ball still went in. Leslie was embarrassed but laughing.
7/15/2010 11:29:10 PM
^^do you expect a rising high school senior(Uchebo) to dominate a college senior?
7/15/2010 11:42:58 PM
^ not at all. I was responding to
7/15/2010 11:45:42 PM
it was miles plumlee, not mason. i think miles is a rising sophomore isn't he? and uchebo did do quite well against him. it was the best i've seen uchebo look actually, he's struggled a bit in the other games so far. he did well defensively on plumlee though, and completely destroyed him on the boards. mcgladrey was missing cj williams and tracy smith, not sure where they were.our guys were trailing 36-34 at the half, but had an amazing 4th quarter to earn a 13 point victory, 75-62.seth curry injured his knee after about 5 minutes and did not return to the game.here are the numbers i recorded. i believe them to be mostly accurate:Harrow 18p 2r 4s 6aBrown 9p 3r 1s 6aLeslie 28p 8r 1aUchebo 6p 12r 2s 1aPlumlee 10p 2rCurry 3pHairston 2p 1rmiles plumlee looked MUCH better on tuesday night against team 212 (vandenburg was absent). uchebo gave him trouble tonight. seth curry was a total baller in that game as well. it's a shame he got hurt tonight as i was looking forward to seeing him match up with lorenzo brown.
7/16/2010 12:13:15 AM
no kyrie irving?
7/16/2010 9:24:21 AM
kyrie plays on a different team. he plays on the Hendrick of Durham team
7/16/2010 9:29:29 AM
oh ok. he was one of the best players i saw. Duke is going to be really really good. They are replacing players with much better ones for sure
7/16/2010 9:31:56 AM
^^^Miles Plumlee is the oldest, he has dark hair. I believe hes a rising SeniorMason Plumlee is the middle Plumlee, the one with blond hair who looks to have the most potential between the two. He's a rising SophomoreI guess LoBrown didnt play his best yesterday, he looked really really good against Team Stackhouse on Tuesday.I'm worried that if CJL, Harrow and Lorenzo all played Tuesday and yesterday, how good their legs will be for Team Stackhouse tonight. It sounds like the UNC players took the day off yesterday so they might be fresher. And look at me making excuses for a pro-am tourney already [Edited on July 16, 2010 at 9:34 AM. Reason : ad]
7/16/2010 9:34:25 AM
Yea on tuesday night he was by far the best shooter on the floor the entire night IMO.besides the short gangster ass white kid that plays for Team 212
