I also was surprised/confused as to why Mrs. Schroeder didn't hesitate when Nucky started kissing her at the end of the last episode. She seems conservative enough that she would be a "lady" about all of that, especially with the way Nucky was treating her before.

she "seems" conservative but all the evidence points to her wanting it just as bad as he did. especially the night she stole the lingerie up to her wearing it for him only not to be seen and then tearing it up in a fit of rage. she's got it bad for the nuck

She is going to end up being a typical 'mob wife'. Smart and conservative, yet blissfully and intentionally ignorant.

My bad if I feel like this show is moving slow.

Maybe they'll start her out innocent and conservative but by the end of the series she'll be just as corrupt as everyone else.

You could argue that she already is as corrupt.

She ratted Nucky out knowing that was his operation with the beer barrels. She didn't get she wanted 100% from him, so she turned on him and tried to fuck him over, and made sure Nucky knew it was her.

Let's not forget that she randomly walked into his office one day off the street unprovoked, without any inclination of an invitation. Nucky gave her a ton of cash, and gave her a job. Somewhat ungrateful imo.

I know reporting beer barrels, and getting a party broken up is small potatoes...but she could turn the corner into the bigger game easily; considering her gumption and personality.

She's the most interesting character in a show full of them.

She's confused, torn between two worlds, and conflicted. She's just gone through absolute hell with the miscarriage, abuse, and death of her husband. And now she's gone from being a core member of the temperance league to accepting help from a person that she can no longer deny is a bad man.

At first she fell for Nucky because he was a man of power, and seemingly principles. But as the veneer wore off, she started to see the darker side of Nucky.

She's got one foot in one world, and especially now, one giant foot in the other.

Really good episode. Things are starting to take shape and the prohibition officer just keeps getting creepier.

As soon as he said, "Where's the blond girl?", I knew they were all dead.

Capone not liking that Torrio is taking a liking to Jimmy.

I find the prohibition officer plot extremely stupid. Hopefully he'll do something to get himself killed.

Torrio, Jimmy, and Capone were fucking hilarious and awesome. And yeah there were a metric ton of boobs, including finally Margaret's.

I also liked when Eli choked Lucky. I want to see more conflict between Rothstein and Nucky.

Nucky was busy schmoozing with the dude from Jersey City to make sure he gets a piece of the road appropriation bill money. And by schmoozing I mean plowing hookers.

It was really subtle but as Jimmy, Capone, and Torrio were running to their getaway car, Capone let out a really funny laugh that I found hilarious.

Stephen Graham is doing some great work on this show, I went from hating his character to empathizing with him in like 10 seconds when he opens up about his son being deaf.

i've enjoyed all aspects of the young Capone and Stephen Graham is playing him wonderfully. In all honesty much of the time i'd prefer to be in Chicago with Jimmy and Al than I would back in AC with "Mr. Nooky".

I sense a lot of people feel the same way. I also imagine NYC will get more run as the series goes forward with Lucky, Rothstein and eventually Dutch Schultz.

They have given themselves a lot of places to go..

The best part of the series so far was when margaret said "Maybe your cunny isn't quite the draw you think it is."

That girl has some balls on her, and I hope they keep her a strong character

Interesting episode. Nucky appears to be opening up more to Margaret. Like the new "sniper" for Jimmy. The coming weeks teaser looks like things are really heating up.

I didn't watch the teaser but I love that even an episode without a ton of action, like that one, can keep me hooked. I really enjoyed getting deeper in to knowing Nucky and Jimmy and why they are like they are.

I'm really enjoying everything about Chicago... that was a well done scene with Jimmy and the old war vet as well.

Also, Meyer Lansky intro... nice.

^Before Jimmy left, they had a fight because he thought she had an affair with the photographer while he was at war (because of the sexy picture in the picture album he found). Turns out it wasn't the photographer she was sleeping with. . . it was the photographer's wife.

the lesbian thing took everyone by complete surprise from what i understand. for those who may not know or remember, the 2 women were the photographer's wife and jimmy's girlfriend. the g/f had told jimmy she got that really sexy risque picture taken of herself for him but didn't know where to send it as he was fighting in France. in my opinion, the truth is that she had the picture taken for/by her lesbian lover and kept a copy as a momento of the forbidden taboo relationship.

Ok thanks, I remember the whole issue over the picture, and them visiting the photographer's shop on the boardwalk. She made some comment about Nucky Thompson though... like she doesn't want him to find out that she's a lesbian, what was the deal with that?

Isn't Jimmy related to Nucky? So he's probably giving her money because of that.

^we don't know this to true or false yet. Nucky has supported Jimmy and those around him in one way or another for all of his life. He gave money to Gillian while he was young thus it only makes sense that he gave money to the mother of Jimmy's child as well, especially since shunning Jimmy from Atlantic City.

Another excellent episode...Nucky burning down his childhood house felt very Tony Soprano-ish which wasn't helped by the fact that his father is played by the same actor who played Tony's father in law. Jack Huston was suitably unnerving as Jimmy's new colleague, and it was good to see Meyer Lansky get into the mix (and we'll undoubtedly see Bugsy Siegel before too long).

Also I might as well throw this in for the benefit of those who don't read Sepinwall's blog since I thought it was particularly insightful:
Quote :
"The men at the center of this week's "Boardwalk Empire" have scars. Some are incredibly obvious, like the missing half of the face of Jimmy's new friend Richard Harrow; his painted tin mask covers them up, but only draws more attention to what's underneath (and what isn't). Some are more easily hidden; Jimmy's limp never goes away, but all he has to do to cover his damaged leg is put on pants. And some are barely noticeable at all, like the brand from the red hot poker that Nucky's father gave him on his ninth birthday.

But regardless of the size, placement and degree of their physical scars, all three men carry with them terrible emotional ones - nightmares and stories and memories they can't let go of, and that few people want to hear about in a way that would be helpful. "

The part at the end when the sniper shot that dude was badass.

Oh and one thing... Jimmy's gf was telling her lesbian lady that Jimmy hadn't sent her anything since he left... it definitely showed him putting some cash in an envelope for her a few episodes ago so maybe it's being intercepted somehow?

^^ i thought about that as well. i figured its because maybe the mail system was somewhat slow back then so it took a lot longer for mail to travel, esp from Chicago to AC. either that or it is being intercepted by someone, maybe the Feds since they are looking for Jimmy? that Prohibition Fed is working out of the Post Office..

I have the feeling that at first Jimmy wasn't sending money. He was perfectly happy with Pearl and had somewhat left AC behind him. It wasn't until she was gone and he was alone with his thoughts that he remembered his woman and child back home. Thus i suspect what we saw was his first letter home and it hasn't arrived yet.

Something tells me that a significant amount of time has passed since the start of the season and this point. Nucky made a comment about "the hijacking in January last year" or something like that if I remember correctly making me think it has been a decent amount of passed time.

The Richard Harrow (sniper) character is the coolest character I've seen in anything in a long time. Don't really know why I feel that way. He's just fucking awesome. His mannerisms; the swallowing, grunting, and looking away/down are very well done. I really hope he's a recurring character.

Also, I noticed that he shot the guy that killed Pearl in the exact same spot on his face he shot the German sniper that finally removed his mask after three days.

This show is getting quite dark, and I like it.

I've never even heard of snipers wearing masks before... I wouldn't think that a mask would stop a bullet but then again I guess the bullets back in WWI weren't as powerful.
