Air Jordan sounds good.

So who still fthinks that he was a complete waste of a scholarship? Nym?I know it was only two games, and he'll probably have a terrible game against Virginia, but he was brought in as a project, and he's shown that he can play well sometimes and is pretty athletic for a 7'+ skinny white dude. Should be a steady contributor as an upperclassman.
2/27/2011 6:08:02 PM
Who said he was a waste of a scholarship? We all knew he would be a project but after seeing the dunk contest his freshman year, we knew he had the athleticism to compete.
2/27/2011 6:13:22 PM
^^I'll take back everything I've ever said bad about Vandy if he continues this kind of play. I doubt I posted it on here, but I definitely told my friends that he was a wasted scholarship...and I do take that back now.[Edited on February 27, 2011 at 6:17 PM. Reason : ]
2/27/2011 6:16:26 PM
^^several people have said it on this board. some used it as criticism against lowe.
2/27/2011 8:09:40 PM
I'll admit I said it. He looked like he made negative progress from freshman to sophomore year but he has improved when we have needed him most to do so the last few games. I'm not too proud to admit when I'm wrong.
2/27/2011 8:11:37 PM
I still think he's a goofy waste of a jersey
2/27/2011 8:17:20 PM
i still think he should wear a goofy waist-high jersey©nate irving
2/27/2011 8:29:47 PM
i'm still not convinced its not a fluke[Edited on February 27, 2011 at 8:37 PM. Reason : i call him The Living Solomon Grundy]
2/27/2011 8:36:38 PM
^^^ You would be sucking his dick if he played for ASU.
2/27/2011 8:46:51 PM
nah, Herb already has enough 7+ footers on the roster
2/27/2011 8:56:08 PM
ol herbie's doin pretty good this year. 2-10 in conference play, 10-18 overalltoo bad we let him get away..
2/27/2011 10:06:33 PM
^We did get the wildly popular Sidney Lowe though, so its not all bad.
2/27/2011 10:17:44 PM
Don't derail this, folks. Jordan is reading this and he doesn't want a bunch of Herb bashing ruining his thread.

Vandenberg > Sendek

It's my threadI do what I want
2/27/2011 11:20:36 PM
Looks like Herb would love VandyIf he took low percentage outside shots instead of high percentage dunks

Vandenberg has shown great strides. A bit more improvement in his strength and footwork/fundamentals and there is no reason his contributions won't grow significantly in his junior/senior years. Most 7 footers take awhile to develop. Those that don't are McDonald's All American one and dones. Hopefully the coaching staff can work with him on when to set his feet (screens, for example) and when to slide his feet on defense, which will make him a more polished player and keep him from pickup up unneeded fouls. Also blocking out could be improved, but his rebounding and particularly defense around the basket have improved a lot this year.
2/28/2011 12:41:20 AM
I'm actually somewhat impressed that it only took him a year and a half to figure out that all he should be doing on offense is trying to dunk. Wasn't expecting that until year 4 if at allThis offseason he needs to work on rebounding. He's playing volleyball out there right now
2/28/2011 12:51:20 AM
It's also nice to have passers that can toss the ball where he can make those kinds of plays. He was left pretty much unguarded near the baseline.
2/28/2011 2:04:05 AM
for sure, i feel like most of the credit should go to the guards for getting him the ball in the right spots while he was open. a lot of his struggles early in the season looked like they stemmed from the team's overall lack of trust in him. he wasn't really doing anything to gain their trust either. when tracy would go out, we would move away from the inside-out game because we were hesitant to get the ball in the post for fear of what he would do with the ball and that disrupted our flow a lot of times. his performance in the last 2 games has helped alleviate that pressure and i think the build a lot of confidence in themselves off of that alone. he still has a lot of work to do, but i still like what i see.
2/28/2011 10:14:22 AM
^ I agree with you with the exception of the Syracuse game. Against that zone, Vandenberg became a pretty efficient distributer at the top of the key. That was most likely, though, because both teams realized that he wasn't going to make a move to the basket and/or shoot from there.

I'm listening to Gary Hahn interview Vandenburg now. He doesn't sound nearly as dumb as that paper that was circulating made him sound. I call BS, that wasn't his paper.
3/1/2011 6:42:27 PM
We're playing much better with the Javi/Vandy lineup.
3/1/2011 7:46:41 PM
I think he should be starting with Tracy at the 4.
3/1/2011 7:47:42 PM
^ Along those lines - the guys on the morning talk show on 620 were saying that we all know CJL is a superb athlete, but as a basketball player TBDV is the better player right now.Props to TBDV for his play as lot late.CJL - step yo' game up

i think it's more like vandenberg is just starting to understand his role a little more than leslie does. i wouldn't say that makes him the better player, but it does make him a better fit than leslie in some situations when you're talking about what we want to do as a team.leslie certainly has the tools to be a great player, he just has a lot to learn still, especially on defense. for the most part he's been taking better shots now than he was at the start of the season because they're at least taken in the flow of the offense whereas before he was forcing a lot of shots trying to get himself involved instead of just playing hard and letting the game come to him. a lot of players that i've talked to say that it took them til mid to late sophomore year before their understanding of the college game really started to click. it takes some players longer than others because in a lot of cases these kids are coming from high school being the man where things came pretty easy and now all of the sudden have to learn how to play team basketball or, in vandenberg's case, they're project players that will take a while to develop. in most cases it takes much longer for big men to develop so it's encouraging that he's starting to show signs of understanding his role a lot more here in his sophomore season. he still has a long way to go, but he's at least on the right track.[Edited on March 3, 2011 at 10:03 AM. Recently, TBDV has been posting up down low. The wings are starting to feed him the ball.I see it and I'm like, is Vandy about to take this guy 1-on-1?!? Is he about to break out a post move? A left hook, perhaps?[Edited on March 3, 2011 at 11:26 AM. Reason : ]

Our team consistently has trouble with their inside game against huge fucking centers with an iota of blocking skills.Vandy will get minutes because of this.
