4hahahah so we are getting all of this noise from you people when the drivers are getting an above minimum wage anyway? (yes i know minimum wage has gone up, which it shouldn't have, but that's beside the point.)[Edited on March 12, 2010 at 11:58 PM. Reason : ]

In this thread, we learn why capitalism is a failure (or a success, depending on who you are).

another thread turned into the never done before tipping argument

^I for one usually tip very small because the delivery charge has already pushed the price above what I'd normally be willing to pay for a pizza... plus I only carry so much cash on my person at any given time... an $8 pizza plus a $2 delivery charge means that the driver won't be getting the change left over from my $10. (Though nowadays I typically just order pickup, since places like Gumby's have pickup discounts and it lets me pay with debit... and I usually have my car with me more often lately)I wish that weren't the case, too, because pizza delivery in a city can actually be very dangerous compared to almost any other food service job... a guy I knew in high school nearly got killed on a delivery job when some guy tried to cave his head in with a lead pipe. I'd gladly tip drivers a lot more than waiters/waitresses if not for the fact that all my paper money is being used to buy the pizza itself. What would be nice to see is delivery guys with card readers. It's easier for me and the driver would get a big tip.[Edited on March 14, 2010 at 3:34 AM. Reason : .]

^ I hate that argument. If you're too cheap to pay for a pizza and tip, then don't order a pizza. I delivered pizzas for about a year in Cary. For me to not cuss you out on my way back, the minimum tip is $2. A percentage of the order doesn't matter because no matter how many pizzas you ordered, I still have to drive to your house. I would hope to be tipped more if your house was far away, or if I had to walk up a lot of stairs. It usually doesn't turn out that way because people just don't think about it.Once a guy called up who was a mile outside of our delivery area. He convinced me to drive out there anyway because he's such a loyal customer, etc. Ended up tipping me less than a dollar. Also, did any other delivery drivers notice that people don't tip for wings? WTF is up with that.

well to be fair, wings from pizza places are usually terrible.

That's what I want, pizza delivery drivers coming up to my door with card readers. Might as well just hand your credit card to one of the bums on Hillsborough.I order online, but then usually tip cash at the door.

i worked at dominos 10 years ago and we had card readers for the drivers. if they purchased with a card we had to slide it through the card reader. no one had a problem with it and it ended the problem of people using stolen card numbers.you have always been able to order pizza for delivery with the card, and then write in the tip amount.[Edited on March 14, 2010 at 12:23 PM. You're seriously telling me that there are extenuating circumstances where you're forced to order a pizza and stiff the driver. WTF

Not when I was there that I recall. When it came up, it was just a common sense thing kinda like "it's not your money, don't get hurt for it".
