Husband and I decided to put 10k in traditional IRAs so we would about break even......I cannot believe how much our taxes were [Edited on April 11, 2010 at 11:29 PM. Reason : We even have extra taken out of my husband's paycheck.]
4/11/2010 11:28:50 PM
I didn't think we would get much back this year because we both cut our with-holdings pretty low...us both being full or over halftime students helped a shit ton.

Turbo Tax says the average filer has 6900 or so in Medical deductions.WTFMy wife was in the hospital for half the year almost and we still didn't have enough medical stuff to break past the 7.5% barrier.Someone's lying.

After deducting out the almost 100 dollars for using turbotax it appears I came out +200 between federal and state... thanks NC for raping my federal return

I received my refund today, including the 8k home buyer's credit. I mailed it in around the first week of March. Regarding the additional documentation in question from earlier in the thread, I only sent in the tax forms, W2, and signed HUD.
4/12/2010 7:55:28 PM

Someone help please...I have only filed my taxes to get a return for the last two years. Someone told me I could go back up to three years to get my unclaimed monies from the government. So, does that make it tax year 2005-2006, or 2006-2007. Wish I could get my monies back from high school too, boo...thanks for any help!!
4/13/2010 6:45:02 PM
Just paid onlineowed 373 state, 646 federal
4/13/2010 6:47:59 PM
I rcvd my refund on Monday! It included my 1st time homebuyers credit as well.
4/13/2010 7:47:57 PM
^^^did you file a tax return for 2007 or 2008. The rule is 3 years from the filing date. So on Thursday, it will be April 15, 2010. You could get a return in for tax year 2006 if you do it by this thursday, if not then you'll only be able to file a return for 2007. You may still be assessed a failure to file penalty.Failure to file penalty is only assessed if you owe taxes. If you do not owe then you get all of your refund back but no interest on it[Edited on April 13, 2010 at 8:17 PM. Reason : ftf penalty]

when you efile via turdo tax, you just send in your check to NC DOR with the d-400 voucher right?do i need to send in other materials? w2, 1098, etc?
4/14/2010 2:55:38 PM
^ thats all my wife did. She owed a little on her freelance work in NC. Just printed that D-400 and put it in with a check and mailed it to the NC DOR.
4/14/2010 2:57:01 PM
thanks.btw, i didn't intentionally type "turdo". lots of Freudian slips of recent...
4/14/2010 3:48:24 PM
i took the $7500 interest-free "loan" last year...turbotax doesn't seem to mention it in my return, and so my federal is ~$3000 and my state is ~$500, both refundsaren't i supposed to start paying back that $7500 at $500/year for the next 15 years? i did the import, so it should know i took the option
4/14/2010 3:56:23 PM

stupid question here but I just efiled my state tax return using H&R Block software.I owe $500 but after I efiled nowhere does it even tell me how to pay the state.?????
4/15/2010 1:54:09 AM
I'm not sure but could it be that you have wait until it is accepted by NC? I know with the H&R online I submitted it and it was 2 days later I got an email saying it was accepted and that I could print my return with the DCN (which is some kind of confirmation number).[Edited on April 15, 2010 at 7:44 AM. Reason : It's been a few years since I had to pay so I can't remember how that was handled.]

future mother-in-law: can you come help me with something on my taxes?me: sure(gets to her house)future mother-in-law: (hands me a pile of shit) can you do them?I don't understand people who wait until the last second to file when they're getting a refund
4/15/2010 8:38:33 AM
^^^^yeah to clarify, its like Doss2k saidYou can e-file your federal using your tax software/website, but while you can file North Carolina .online, you can't do it through H&R Block, Turbotax, etc. You have to do it on the NCDOR website
4/15/2010 2:05:52 PM
I got a refund due to my medical expenses. If I hadn't gone through what I did, I'd have ended up owing $3k.

^ I am the exact same way.I submitted my return (and payment) at like 10p.m. last night.Hell, I actually did pretty well by doing almost all of the return on Sunday night. When I found out that I owe money, i decided to wait until the 15th to actually submit.

I did my taxes like 3 months ago. It took me an hour at most.Slackers.
4/16/2010 9:29:55 AM
so i've been checking the IRS Where's My Refund link, which said my refund was deposited April 30. Tried calling the hotline today, but it's all automated. Found this sequence online today, which got me to talk to an actual person within about 5 minutes, and she was very helpful. if you need to actually call the irs about your refund, try thisCall 1-800-829-1040Do NOT follow the prompts about WMR -Select Personal Income Taxes option 2Select Tax History Press 2For all other press 3For all other press 2Then enter the information via dial pad - and you will be sent to a representative
