^^Then dare I ask how it occurred? Did trees suddenly get taller and the giraffes started stretching really tall and passed those traits to their kids?[Edited on January 14, 2010 at 11:25 AM. Reason : .]

super tall and super small phenotypes already existed in the proto-giraffe population, just like it does in humans today. The family from little people, big world and motherfucking shaq are naturally extant, non-single gene mutation phenotypes in our population, just at a very low frequency. This is because extreme huge size and extreme tiny size do not confer an advantage to surviving to adulthood and having an opportunity to procreate. If something happened and we all had to live in tunnels from now on, and people made their livings from gathering diamonds in the tiniest tunnels, there would probably be a gradual shift to smaller phenotypes being more prevalent in the population. This would be because shaq would be stuck in the the biggest tunnels and not get enough diamonds to survive/convince women to let him knock them up, while troy verner and that annoying midget kid would be scooping up bling by the handful and could get tons of chicks. standing in the tunnel or trying to squeeze through small passage ways isnt going to make shaq any smaller or change his gonads, but if you look at the next generation there will be 10 of troy verner kids, carrying one copy of the tiny allele and 1 shaq kid with the huge allele. the next generation there could be 100 tiny alleles and 5 huge alleles, and eventually the huge allele would have a tiny, tiny frequency less than we see today. Thats how the human race would turn into gnomes from a tunnel event, not from stalactites shaving off everyones backfat.

I just came in here to say...If I work out everday and get very strong, those genes are passed on to my children.

^^once again. i'm not answering these questions because I don't understand it. I'm asking them to help YOU understand it.Where do you think these multiple alleles originated?
